Tuesday Night Funnies VI

November 13, 2012

For which team will he be rooting for on Wednesday?

Croatia fans will have to look twice as “B” team Croatia will face an HNL all-star squad in Rijeka on Wednesday. The HNS have once again let down most Croatian fans by failing to secure a friendly for Croatia, now ranked #10 in the world, and will instead have to use one of the only two FIFA friendly dates before their showdown against Serbia in March against players from the HNL.

Can you imagine Real Madrid letting Luka Modrić participate in such an event? Is there anything Igor Štimac will get from such a match? Will any of the players even put up much of an effort? Even if a player shines from the HNL all star squad it wouldn’t matter because the “B” squad won’t show up. Instead of “Tuesday Night Funnies, we should call this week’s edition: Tuesday Night Tragedies.

In case anyone is interested in this monumental game, here are the announced squads:

Croatia: Daniel Subašić,  Ivan Vargić, Manuel Pamić, Mladen Bartulović, Domagoj Vida, Vedran Ćorluka, Gordon Schildenfeld, Dejan Lovren, Mario Maloča, Ivan Runje, Milan Badelj, Mateo Kovačić,  Luka Modrić, Josip Radošević, Ivan Rakitić, Sammir, Ivan Perišić, Niko Kranjčar, Mario Mandžukić, Eduardo, Nikica Jelavić, Marko Livaja

HNL All Stars: Ivan Kelava (Dinamo), Goran Blažević (Hajduk), Šime Vrsaljko (Dinamo), Dario Knežević (Rijeka), Mateo Pavlović (Zagreb), Elvis Kokalović (Slaven Belupo), Hrvoje Milić (Istra 1961), Josip Pivarić (Dinamo), Dario Župarić (Cibalia), Damir Kreilach (Rijeka), Arijan Ademi (Dinamo), Marcelo Brozović (Dinamo), Marko Lešković (Osijek), Franko Andrijašević (Hajduk), Dinko Trebotić (Lokomotiva), Mijo Caktaš (Hajduk), Dejan Glavica (Slaven Belupo), Ante Rebić (Split), Duje Čop (Dinamo), Ante Rukavina (Dinamo), Andrej Kramarić (Lokomotiva), Ante Budimir (Inter Zaprešić)

where is Halilovic?????? Surely, you are not suggesting he should have been called up tho this game based on the small amount of time he has received with Dinamo this season.

I don’t think anyone is bitching at the savez for not arranging a legit friendly. Sometimes its better not to play at all and allow your star players a few days off. We don’t play the serbs for another 4 months. I don’t think there is much to gain playing a game today.

  2. Ziva Istina says:

Serb Subasic really being authorative in the box on that goal. I see he’s been watching GPS Kelava.

  3. TheGoldenChild says:

Wasn’t the biggest B squad showing in the first half…it was a good chunk of our starters. Sammir had a great shot, but that thing is getting saved at an international level. Jelavic had a few good chances, but they were either saved off the goal line or he couldn’t convert.

Good excercise and a good way for the boys to get more used to each other.

  4. Colin O'Haravić Colin O'Haravić says:

Yeah, HNL didn’t look bad today. Moved the ball well and held the lead for quite a while. Would I be saying too much if I were to say I was impressed? Or did the guys on the nat’l really just not care enough to put up any kind of fight?

  5. Joso says:

@ Colin they didnt care they were watching the legs but also the HNl team Milic Lb from Istra better than that dinamo pushover Pivaric, Kokalovic and Pavlovic played well 2 good cbs, Kramaric should play for Dinamo not Lokomotiva, as for Croatia Only Badelj and Eduardo showed something out of atarting 11, Sammir does not count he will never be croatian, and Jelavic was terrible could have had 5 goals today. Those are my opnions

  6. Colin O'Haravić Colin O'Haravić says:

Joso pretty much hit everything right on the nose. Why was Pivaric an “all star”?? Kramaric will return to Dinamo soon enough. That’s his ticket out of Croatia and the HNL. Mandzukic couldn’t hit the net today if he was standing inside of it and I actually think Kelava was better than Subasic.

Oh and BTW, Medvescak lost today for the first time in 9 games.

  7. Joso says:

@ Colin i think Kelava and Vargic were the better of the 4 Subasic soft goal and Blazevic should have done better with Sammir goal. Vargic made nice save forget on who. HNL has nice player but terrible Teams Make any sense haha

  8. JerseyCro says:

this match was pointless…for example, Hrvoje Milic on the HNL team had a good game, does that mean he is NT material? No

Stimac learned nothing for this game and the atmosphere would have been better at a library. Just a complete waste of a FIFA date, this match was actually more boring than our usual friendly matches against Estonia

  9. Matija says:

I dont know what to make of our new coach and savez, on one hand we are doing alright in WC qual on the other hand decisions like this game , sammir and general running of the federation are a joke

  10. Ziva Istina says:

Shout out to all the fans in Rijeka for staying home and not attending this sranje. And Suker continues to play dumb like there is nothing wrong,

  11. Ziva Istina says:

This article on Gotovina is a bunch of wishful thinking. I hope he gets his sentenced reduced, but there is no way he is going home on Friday. Its a political court, window dressing; nothing will change.

  12. JerseyCro says:

The hardcore fans didn’t go to the game…but they did have a few banners where they usually sit

For most of the match the fans at the game were cheering for the HNL, but they made little noise, only time they did was when a goal was scored or there was referee mistakes :D

  13. Ziva Istina says:

I’ll be having people over for a viewing party of the appeal hearing. Then, we can all shake our heads at the over-the-top reactions and grandstanding from the Cro politicans and others whores looking for media attention.

    Vegas odds on Gotovina:

    sentance reduced slightly: +250
no change in the sentance: -110
sentance dramatically reduced and released: +2500

    any takers?????/

Hrvatska RIP dedicated to HDZ AND SDP AND ALL THE COMMIES WHO WANTED A CROATIA TO GET RICH
    Jel’te sram,
    ili noću mirno spavaš
jel’te savjesti plam proždire i peče,
    ili lijepo sanjaš
jel’te sram onih što su pali
    i svoje mlade živote dali
    za Lijepu našu za ideale,
a sad od njih praviš budale
i dok su oni na čuki stali,
ti i takvi zemlju ste krali
    pjevali lažno Ustane bane,
a onda trpaj dok sve ne nestane
i njima ćeš dati orden i plakete
i jedan praznik da ih se sjete
a dok su oni vodili borbe,
ti si u miru radija pretvorbe
i to što si Hrvat zar daje ti pravo
da pljačkaš i kradeš? Čestitam, bravo!
I prisvajaš tuđe da bude tvoje
i sa dva prsta pozdravljaš heroje
i dok si kra’i uzima šta ti se svidi,
    neki od pravih su invalidi
i nije im žao što su dali sebe,
al’im je muka kad vide tebe
i šta si sve steka’ u vrime rata
i napravija sebi palače od zlata
ali ne trudom i svojim radom,
    nego krađom i debelim obrazom
ali kad istina dođe po svoje
i vidi da zločin sve to je
kad te pozovu pred lice pravde
ti se braniš: to mi Srbi rade
i kad te optuže s potpunim pravom
    ti se tada pokriješ zastavom
i braniš hrvatstvom, bogom i vjerom,
što sveto je onim što su od zemljom
ma pokrij se ušima, i sram nek te bude
    pravi borci neka ti sude
i u zatvor triba te strpat
    pa se tamo pitaj:
kakav si Hrvat, kakav si Hrvat?

  15. Ziva Istina says:

Well, if Messi, Buffon and Christiana Ronaldo played for us, we also would have won Euro 2008 and 2012.

I can throw around random names and say they could play for us.

  16. Ziva Istina says:

    Is sammir’s mom cro???

His mom may be Croatian (from zadar) but there was zero chance that ibra was ever going to play for cro. He has never identified himself as a hrvat or as bosniak/Muslim. There would have been a better chance of messi playing for cro than ibra.
