Dejan Lovren has been a passionate, fiery, almost wild defender for the Croatian national team. The 27 year-old played four seasons with Dinamo Zagreb before being sold to French club Olympique Lyon. In 2013, Lovren made his big move to the English Premier League, when Southampton bought him, only staying there for one season before ultimately joining Liverpool. Lovren has been with Liverpool since the summer of 2014.
There is no question that Lovren plays with attitude. And on his best days he can be one of the best defenders in the world.
But then there are the days he completely flips a 180. Gaffes on defense, complete misreads of the opposition and blatant lack of respect for management. In the days leading up to Euro 2016, Lovren and Croatia manager Ante Čačić got into it over a friendly match which saw Lovren left out of the Croatia squad, having to watch the Euros from home. Arguably, Croatia would have been a much stronger side on defense with Lovren against Portugal instead of Vida.
LFCTV will be airing the documentary Lovren: My Life As A Refugee where Lovren will discuss a dark time in his life when his family had to flee their home during the Bosnian War.
The war hit all Croatians in different ways. But it’s rare to see public figures come out and share their stories.
Lovren is a great player, but his emotions get the best of him on occasion. And although his passion and fire get him in trouble, these two elements also make him the great player that he is. Wednesday night, we will see exactly where Dejan Lovren’s fire comes from.

Liked the video, thanks guys.
I lost you at “libtard.”
What insight!
Beautifully worded too.
@Iggy
Of course, because it’s just a coincidence that this video is released by the PC Premier League right after Trump signed a “refugee ban” that is hysterically protested by the libtard crowd on both sides of the pond, right ? Hey moron, for months ALL of the corporate media simply ridiculed Trump and laughed at the idea that he could possibly win, remember ? The timing of this video is indeed another one of these latest desperate attempts to delegitimize his orders now that he has actually won and any intellectually honest individual can see it with his own eyes. Lovren should know better and what happened to us in Croatia and Bosnia has absolutely nothing to do with TEMPORARILY banning these terrorist states that are already busy killing civilians in Europe and the US.
Fuck you Hillary supporters are low IQ clueless sheeple !
That’s such a narrow distinction and grouping , you can say any mediocre player has the potential to be world class?
What world class potential have you seen from the other 3? This man starts and plays for Lyon and Liverpool which the others you mentioned were at fringe clubs and second division teams until recent fairytale stories
ok, put me in the same group then.
Easy. All 4 of them (Lovren, to a lesser extent) are headcases and all of them haven’t met expectations, although they’re all talented.
Again, Dejan had/has the potential to be a world class defender. There’s zero reason he shouldn’t be a cemented starter on the NT by now, no matter what Cacic has done or said. Even at Liverpool, he’s been hot and cold, there’s always been chatter about Liverpool not wanting to keep him around. Dude should be the best defender on that team by now.
I do not understand how you are grouping Lovren with halilovic rebic and livaja
Vida is our Gronk.
The reason Lovren is not the best CB in the EPL has nothing to do with his headcase tendencies, but rather his lack of skill.
Being a headcase is often advantageous to young athletes as they focus on a game (eg soccer) as opposed to Calculus & chemistry.
The fact that we have a high percentage of very coachable players, along with a diaspora that is generally considered to be in the upper middle class or better wherever they emigrate to…is proof that the current system in place in Croatia is the problem and not the people.
It’s really hard to change how things are though. But if it ever does, things would skyrocket over there.
Armada and Maminjo,
I have often thought about this myself. I’m ashamed to say I was a major head case in my youth myself. I would have been another Diego Maradona if I had his money and fame.
I’m amazed at how humble many professional athletes are. Look at guys like Kovacic, Modric, Perisic.
@Maminjo trying to take over STD title from Corluka.
Different woman every weekend gets old after 2 months, ask any half decent looking man who lived in Manhattan. Maybe I was too much of a hypochondriac to enjoy it, but there is a reason most superstars settle down while still in their prime.
@Armada
Yup.
It’s beyond belief that a dumb, young jock like Domagoj Vida (who loves to party and drink) can still manage to be disciplined and professional enough to show up every game, give 100 percent effort, and never open another beer on the team bus again.
I am twice as smart as Vida, but I would have been dead by 25.
@ Maminjo
Great points. I wasn’t a sports star and I was getting drunk and messing with girls, left, right and center. God help me if I had played professional soccer. They would of made an ESPN 30 for 30 on me probably haha
@ Ante
Sorry for what? I didn’t want Jelavic. There’s a reason why he’s 30 something and playing in China. In terms of the team, we have Andrijasevic, Gorgon and Gavranovic all scoring for us. We don’t need a ‘splashy’ signing like Jelavic. Give me another good solid defender (our defense has been our rock this year actually) and I just need to cross my fingers and say a little prayer to bog that Rijeka don’t shit the bed (again).
Armada,
Sorry about Jelavic. Too bad that deal didn’t work out.
Yea, but he’s more normal to me than guys like Modrić and Rakitić, who have had money and fame since their teenage years and for some reason live a humble and quiet life throughout their 20s.
I consider myself pretty stable and normal, but if you gave me fame and money at that age, I would be drunk every weekend and dating a different model every week. I’d make guys like Lovren and Livaja look like choir boys haha.
You can’t, you’re right.
But if Dejan had his head on straight, you do know he would be one of the best CB’s in the EPL… He has all the god given traits; build, height, decent pace by Croatian standards, can get into the mix of the offensive side of the ball.
At this point in his career, he should be the best Croatian defender in the world, hands down. Meanwhile, dude can’t break into the XI over guys like Vida and Corluka.
@Armada
All those guys you listed are headcases.
You can’t expect everyone to be humble, hardworking and professional like the countless players we currently have.
I’m surprised it’s only been this few actually.
If Lovren is supportive of refugees, then how many is he currently housing in his million dollar properties?
Easy to be supportive when you are completely shielded from the effect in your gated home and income stored in tax havens around the world.
(just want to derail the comments section) 😉
Lovren is part of the ‘what could of been’ group with Livaja, Halilovic, Rebic, etc.
All fit the definition of ‘kiks igrac’. If some of you don’t know what that means, google it.
Her is a video about “trans-speciesism” (a girl who thinks she was born a cat):

The crazy thing is if you disagree with these people’s opinion, they label you as a hateful, intolerant bigot, who deserves to be prosecuted, fired, put out of business, etc…
Now tell me who the bullies are?
Here is a video about a 52 year old man who identifies as a 6 year girl:

What do you mean by, “What’s with the videos?”
@ Horvat,
Too many links and it thinks you’re spam.
What’s with the videos?
Test. Why are my posts not appearing?
you think his mom cares about disturbing the waters?
uprooted 5 times and she doesn’t want to speak on so she doesn’t piss someone off? or she’s not speaking because it hurts her till this day. think before you speak friend

The worst thing is if you disagree with these bullies they label you as a hateful, intolerant bigot, who deserves to be prosecuted, fired, put out of business, etc..
As if anything from that war has anything to do with Trump. Don’t be retarded.
I wish every refugee’s story was documented so the world can see what those pig fuk serbs did. Not enough people speak out. They stay silent like his mom as to not disturb the waters. That’s the problem in Croatia today.
Iggy its called a joke u twat, don’t u see the wink…..but semi serious lol
Not a Trump thing, but definitely a way of trying to manipulate Liverpool fan’s into opposing the Brexit.
Big difference between someone who can verifiably call themselves a refugee, as opposed to unvetted people just calling themselves a refugee as they travel past 20 safe countries to get amnesty in England.
The Lovren thing was on Liverpool TV.
It only went for 25mins, but it wasn’t bad.
If it was anti-Trump and you are paranoid about timing, wouldn’t it have made more sense to release it *before* the election, when it made a difference? Fuck you Trump supporters are schizo paranoid
Where’s the full length lovren thing
which takes me to this video any of you guys watch this was pretty funny to me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMANy15nYNM
The timing of this makes me question motive… is this anti-trump propagands 😉
Vida is dope! Lovren’s shown me nothing for the National Team. Would love to see one of those two play LB though.
Title should be “My life as a closet order”
Dynamic, Pravi Hrvat
I watched Las Palmas play the other morning, Marko Lavija plays there and so does kevin prince Boatang. Fall from grace.
I wonder if Lovren was paired with a calming influence like Vidic was with Rio Ferdinand if he would be even better then what he is now. It just seems that he needs a good solid partner to help with his self belief in the backline and i think he could be dynamic.
Looks good, I’ll watch it.
Certainly interesting seeing sports people tell their stories like this. I believe Ljubicic had a similar experience iirc
