Dinamo survived by the skin of their teeth today at Maksimir, scrounging up a 1-1 draw against Skenderbeu with a 94th minute goal by Angelo Henriquez.
Dinamo went down in the 37th minute and were unable to answer back for over an hour of play. Fortunately the Modri found a goal to keep the match even heading into the return leg in Albania next week.
NK Osijek’s dream may be fading as they fell 2-1 at the hands of Austria Wien. There was lots of talk of Osijek being the favorites and they proved many right, for a while. Osijek took the lead in the with a goal in the 15th minute scored by Muzafer Eujpi. But hopes began to fade when Wien answered back in the 29th minute before taking the ultimate lead in the 59th minute. Osijek will face off again with them next week in Austria.
Hajduk Split fought a valiant battle against England’s Everton Football Club, but eventually fell to the Premier League side 2-0. Members of Torcida forced the officials to suspend that match for several minutes after some rancorous behavior in the stands, but the match soon resumed and ended with a win to England. Fortunately, Everton will have to face Hajduk in the confines of Poljud next week, which at the very least, should humble a few of the visiting players.
Rijeka is already guaranteed six matches in Europe this season. Whether it’s Champions League or Europe League is still to be determined.
But who else from Croatia will join the Croatian champs?
On Thursday, Dinamo, Hajduk and Osijek with all play the first leg of their Europa League playoff round. The reverse legs will take place next week. Win and you’re in the Europa League group stage. Lose and your European season ends.

Maybe Dario Simic was the last?
