On Wednesday, Real Madrid lost 1-0 at home to Real Betis on an injury time goal. It was Madrid’s first loss of the season but the third time in their past four La Liga matches where they dropped points.
So what’s the deal? And how will it affect Luka Modrić and Mateo Kovačić in the future?
Teams have slumps. It’s a normal part of sports; no matter how good the team is. But to drop points against Real Betis, Levante and Valencia within a month has to raise some eyebrows.
Cristiano Ronaldo has now returned from his 5-match ban, but with Mateo Kovačić out for the next month and the sale of Morata and James in the summer, the Madrid bench is thin.
With Champions League matches throughout the fall and Real Madrid in a tough group with Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund, how will Madrid’s star players be treated as they chase Barcelona in La Liga?
Is Zidane going to over work his stars? Ronaldo, Bale, Modrić, Marcelo, Isco, Ramos. Or will he stick to the schedule and rotate his players accordingly?
Why should you care about Real Madrid?
If Modrić gets overworked this season, and more importantly, in the next two weeks before the final two qualifiers against Finland and Ukraine, he would not be fresh for the World Cup in Russia next summer. Most players are completely shot after their domestic season ends and then have to saddle up for their country for another 3-7 matches at the highest level.
Let’s keep an eye on Madrid in the next few months and see how Zidane runs the team. Because if Modrić is playing at 60% come World Cup time (sure, we haven’t qualified yet) what hope does Croatia have to make a run?

Ivan Rakitic’s wife has breast implants. Nothing is up with Real Madrid they have won like 3 Champions League titles in the last 5 years they are allowed to have sime bad games.
Oh really. Didn’t know i was just fooling around. Lol
lol, he is actually still playing too, team in cyprus
Wait cigan you forgot the best one. Pranjic. Haha
a lot of LB options but they’re all below average; strinic, hrvoje milic, leovac, pivaric, antonio milic…even ibanez
Does Antonio Milic play ever as a LB for his Belgian club?
Dude is pretty tall and looks to be more built for the CB position.
I wonder if Cacic is planning on shuffling the back four and take Pivaric out of the starting eleven.
Other than not starting ASENSIO I don’t see much wrong with the rosters considering benzema and kovacic are out? And Ronald was suspended?
RM getting too cute with their rosters for league games. Barring injury, not worried about an overworked Modric. Besides, Cacic gives players extra rest if needed.
LB? Antonio Milic, about time!
