March 5, 2018

Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalić announced the 29-man squad that will be shortened to 23 names (three goalkeepers) before the trip to the United States. In a semi-surprise move, the entire squad that is expected to play in the World Cup this summer will be coming stateside, contrary to the Croatia v. Mexico friendly in Los Angeles in 2017. Players are expected to drop off this list as the games approach, however, if you are a Croatian supporter going to either of these matches, you can’t be happier.

Croatia face Peru in Miami on March 23rd and Mexico in Dallas on the 27th.

Goalkeepers: Danijel Subašić (Monaco), Lovre Kalinić (Gent), Dominik Livaković (Dinamo Zagreb)

Defenders: Domagoj Vida (Besiktas), Dejan Lovren (Liverpool), Vedran Ćorluka (Lokomotiv Moscow), Matej Mitrović (Club Brugge), Zoran Nižić (Hajduk), Josip Pivarić (Dynamo Kyiv), Ivan Strinić (Sampdoria), Marin Leovac (Rijeka), Šime Vrsaljko (Atletico Madrid), Tin Jedvaj (Bayer Leverkusen)

Midfielders: Milan Badelj (Fiorentina), Ivan Rakitić (Barcelona), Marcelo Brozović (Inter), Mateo Kovačić (Real Madrid), Marko Rog (Napoli), Mario Pašalić (Spartak Moscow), Filip Bradarić (Rijeka), Luka Modrić (Real Madrid)

  1. BZ says:

Genist-100% correct. I can list 10 guys who should be there b4 Santini.

Dalic, you have balls brother. But you also know this summer can result in a big club contract for you in the future. Fuck the clubs, bring your best men, and experiment! #MCGA Make Croatia Great Again

  2. Razbijač says:

Now I’ll be damned!!! Looks like Dalic is bringing some serious Firepower to the states!

  3. The truth says:

Dalic has long said he would include a full roster for these matches. Although i understand if not everyone citaju hrvatski
    And might have missed that

I think everyone should state upfront whether they like these high level friendlies. I will go on the record saying i am against. Little upside, big injury risk. Players playing tentative as a result leaves it a fake game

I might sill make the trip to Miami. I’m looking up some suites down on South beach there. Maybe I’ll spend a few days. Even get in some kite surfing

  4. Mr. Black says:

Cop and Santini are probably good guys but they have no business in our national team. Why didn’t Dalic pick Brekalo and Halilovic? Maybe they’re not ready yet but at least they once could be decent national team players. They’re already playing a lot in the Bundesliga and the Primera Division.

Benkovic is way better than Nizic. Moro is way better dan Brdaric. Corluka didn’t play a single minute for Lokomotiv Moskow last year. Where’s Caleta Car who’s doing great at Salzburg?

  5. Soul Champ says:

    Juan Ignacio Garcia Ochoa:

    Only Modric should play
In the spine of the team and in the centre of the park I wouldn’t mess about with Kroos, who is often slow and who has been out for three weeks.
In fact, Real Madrid haven’t really noticed his absence too much.
Modric, on the other hand, I would play no matter how injured he was.

    ISTINA !!!

  6. CiganJeCigan says:

i wouldnt mind if; Leovac, nizic, bradaric, pasalic, cop, and santini were left out. I really hope they keep rebic cuz he is having a great season and if kramaric is going to be striker pjaca and rebic are the players we have to try at right wing.

  7. Gemišt says:

Mr. Black – You’re comparing players that arent similar, Moro is a cm but Bradaric is better defensively which other than Badelj and maybe Pasalic we lack.

Halilovic just got back from injury, is out of form and is more of an attacking midfielder than a forward.

Brekalo is great and I would like to see him instead of Cop or Santini but keep in mind he’s a winger.

Nizić is there because of his form and potential. We lack CB’s and bringing in players like him to the repka give them experience they need to move their career forward.

  8. BZ says:

Only reasons I am for these particular friendlies are because:
    1) Dalic had no chance to experiment with personnel & formation. Every game he coached was important.

I sure hope he does the right thing. A little experimenting with Belgian coach of the year, Ivan Leko’s 3-5-2 flat would be nice.

  9. LAknat says:

LAknat announced his squad for friendlies!
simply on a whim yet try to be revolutioner

    Goalkeepers:
Danijel Subašić (Monaco), Lovre Kalinić ( K.A.A Gent),
    Dominik Livaković (Dinamo Zagreb)

    Defenders:
Domagoj Vida (Besiktas), Dejan Lovren (Liverpool), Vedran Ćorluka (Lokomotiv Moscow), Matej Mitrović (Club Brugge), Filip Benkovic (Dinamo Zagreb), Josip Pivarić (Dynamo Kyiv), Ivan Strinić (Sampdoria), Duje Caleta Car (Salzburg), Šime Vrsaljko (Atletico Madrid), Tin Jedvaj (Bayer Leverkusen)

    Midfielders:
Milan Badelj (Fiorentina), Mateo Kovačić (Real Madrid),
Ivan Rakitić (Barcelona), Mario Pašalić (Spartak Moscow), Luka Modrić (Real Madrid), Alen Halilović (Las Palmas), Marcelo Brozović (Inter), Marko Rog (Napoli)

    Forwards:
Mario Mandžukić (Juventus), Andrej Kramarić (Hoffenheim),
Ante Rebić (Eintracht Frankfurt), Ivan Perišić (Inter Milan), Josip Brekalo (Wolfsburg), Duje Čop (Standard Liege),
Marko Pjaca (Schalke), Nikola Kalinić (Milan)

try some combination -> based on 3-5-2

    ………….……Lovre Kalinic..………………..

  10. Andrej L says:

Mr. Back – completely agree. The only excuse I can think of is if the U21s have games too. I’d much rather have serious look at Halilovic/Brekalo over Cop/Santini. I know Mitrovic always does well for the repka and Nizic is a boss for Hajduk but Benkovic and Caleta-Car play for bigger clubs and are in more promising. I like Moro too but I don’t see Bradaric making the final roster anyways. I’m pretty sure we can only bring 23 to the WC. Maybe Dalic is giving some of the fringe players a last chance before deciding on how to round out the final WC roster.

  11. The truth says:

So just booked my tickets. Going to go down on Thursday and leave on Monday. Friday will probably be a relaxing pool day before the game. And then Saturday and Sunday will be reserved for shredding with my kite board. Great sport if you haven’t tried it

  12. BZ says:

@Truth-Lovren heard you are going down on thursday. Why don’t you relax by the pool with him on thursday and knock two birds out with one stone?

  13. Maminjo says:

I don’t know who Duje Cop slept with to keep getting these callups.

The guy plays for junk teams AND doesn’t even score on them. He has 3 goals in 15 games this season for shit Standard Liege team.

In what world does that warrant a callup?

Complete waste of a spot that you could give a young player (who would actually probably produce better than him).

  14. The truth says:

Thanks for that tip bz. Happily married man though. I’m going to spend most of my extra time shredding on the water with my kite
