Vrsaljko Could Be Out For England

July 9, 2018

The first Croatian blow of the tournament has finally landed.

Right back Šime Vrsaljko picked up a knee injury in extra time versus Russia and had to be subbed out. He is now ruled as “doubtful” for the England semifinal Wednesday night. Vrsaljko has started every Croatia game (except Iceland) and has been pivotal up the wings with his crosses.

If he is unable to play against England, Domagoj Vida is likely to take his spot on the outside with Vedran Ćorluka joining forces with Dejan Lovren on the backline.

  1. LAknat says:

that’s why you need to take Halilovic into the squad consider this situation could happen! bring the like of Bradaric only become a merely display in this world cup to hit the max quota of 23 players.

  2. LAknat says:

let’s put 98 players to commemorate our 20th anniversary of glorious 3rd place into our current lines up ~!

    ……………………Ladic…………………………
    ……..…..Vida…..Lovren…..Simic………………
    Asanovic………Prosinečki………..Robert Jarni
    ………..Modric…………….Rakitic……………
    …………….Boban……Suker…………………..

  3. KRO says:

Da Silva didnt play at Euro 2008 we still won our group and almost got into the Semi Finals despite not having out top goalscorer as long as our midfield dominated the posession game.

  4. Elvis says:

I WILL BE WEARING THE 2010 AWAY JERSEY WHEN WE PLAY ENGLAND. IT WILL BE REVENGE FOR KNOCKING US OUT OF THE 2010 WC.

PAY BACK WILL BE A BITCH ZDS!!!!!

The extra size being brought in will help on set pieces against the English. Yes we lose some speed on the wing which is unfortunate, that likely means we play a bit narrower. Badelj should be brought in to start now to offer extra support to the back line and free up rakitic and especially modric. All is not lost.

  6. KRO says:

As for people saying Croatia will be tired after playing back to back ET games Argentina did it in 1990 and France did it in 1998 both made the Final and France won it.

  7. Ivo says:

English fans singing “It’s coming home” will turn into us singing
‘Your going home, your going home”

  8. elcroato says:

I have a good feeling about Wednesday too. The English are underestimating us and that will work in our favor for sure. When we are on the pitch they will be shocked by our ability and won’t be able to reciprocate accordingly.

  9. BL says:

If vrsaljko is in fact out, not sure why dalic would be giving out this info, so maybe he’ll be OK to play. Anyway nobody seems to be giving us a chance to win. Hope these bastards eat their words. ZDS

    @BL

Those experts also have an agenda. Dont forget that. I don’t understand their logic. What they have going for them is youth and Kane up front. As for overall quality we are better then they are. Our midfield is better then theres. Our defence is and our keeper is.

Let them talk and run their mouths. Being humble and going about our business is a much better attitude to take. Maguire, the fake tough guy will be exposed on Wednesday.

  11. KRO says:

I hope our players realise that this is a once in a life time opportunity to play in a World Cup final. France won their first World Cup in 1998, Spain in 2010 so it takes along time just to even make one. At first I would have been happy with Semi Finals no lets go one better and make the Final.

  12. Rafael says:

We play a 3-5-2 and attack the English. Sweden spread them open with ease on 2 occasions in the 2nd half and Sweden was horrible.

    Suba

    Charlie, Lovren Vida

    Rebic Brozo Raketa Perisic
    Modric

    Krama Mandzu

Vida- man marks sterling and Lovren follows Kane. Our midfield will eat the English.

    Ajmooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  13. Soul Champ says:

    Ćorluka is ready.

He will bring a calming presence to Lovren who may get jumpy against Kane and co.

Vida is a beast defender at RB.

Need Kovačić in to make for speed quotient with Vrsaljko loss.

  14. Stipe says:

@EVERYONE. NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. EVERY TRUE CROATIAN FAN HAS TO BE PROUD NO MATTER WHAT THE OUTCOME IS

  15. Rijecanin says:

Vrsaljko has killed too many attacks with his poor crosses.
I think the offence will be better if it doesn’t rely on his overlapping runs and instead the ball is fed to Rebic or Peresic down that wing.

  16. AWOL says:

Vrsaljko is no big loss, perhaps advantage.
However, having hot head Corluka who was excellent in previous years does not have the speed anymore. He will not concede any player to overtake him. This might be our first red if he plays.

  17. AB says:

Vrsaljko would be a big loss. He is very strong defensively. He also gets forward. Not sure who would be in line to replace him?

    Predicting Croatia 3-1

    Q. Are the yellow cards wiped or could players potentially get suspended for final?

    ZDS

  18. Mark says:

I’d bring in Charlie for England and Jedvaj for the final, given France and Belgium are faster.

  19. Mali Ante says:

    @ Mr. Black
Great read…even though none of us have played for hrvatska much of the pride he spoke about about is in each of us. Again great read!

  20. Peter North says:

Jedvaj needs to be shackelled to the bench.

Fuck, I hate the French with all those brothers from another mother on their team. Would love nothing more than to see us win the semi and topple those knobgobblers in the Final.

Deschamps looks like a douche, very punchable mug on him.

  21. Kralj Zvonimir says:

Agree, I’d also love to punch Deschamp’s silly face, he looks like an inbred retard ready for a good ass whooping.

    Ajmo, Hrvatska
