Players don’t get paid much for appearing in the World Cup, but if they play well, their values can skyrocket! And that’s exactly what’s happening with the Vatreni following their second place finish in Russia.
Atletico Madrid right-back Šime Vrsaljko, who had a superb World Cup, is being loaned out to Serie A Club Inter Milan for the season. He will join Croatian teammates Ivan Perišić and Marcelo Brozović for a €6.5 million loan fee, with Inter Milan having the option to buy Vrsaljko at the end of the season for €17.5 million, Sport English reports.
But that’s not the only news surrounding Inter Milan and Croatian players. It has been rumored that Real Madrid may sell their midfield maestro Luka Modrić to the Milan club before the summer ends. That would make it four Croatian internationals at Inter Milan, truly making it Inter Croatzionale (thank you Soul Champ). However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says otherwise.
Perez is either increasing Modrić’s value before the transfer or he isn’t letting his talisman go; under any circumstances.
In other Real Madrid news, Mateo Kovačić has rejected a £53 million move to Manchester United because he does not want to play for Jose Mourinho, citing tactics as the main issue, The Telegraph has reported. Kovačić is looking for first-team football and this is quite a gutsy move as he would shine at United. Maybe he knows something we don’t.
Ante Rebić is a hot commodity this summer after a phenomenal World Cup. Sevilla and Tottenham are both battling for the winger with interest also coming from Bayern Munich and Manchester United. Someone big is going to grab Rebić from Eintracht Frankfurt in the next week.
Although Nikola Kalinić will surely never play for Croatia again, being kicked off the team during the World Cup for not wanting to come off the bench, he is still expected to join Atletico Madrid from AC Milan, even with negotiations stalled.
Domagoj Vida may join fellow Croatian defender Dejan Lovren at Liverpool, rumors have suggested.
@crnkovic
This saids it all.

Operacija Oluja !!
The collective power of the Croatian people is unique and capable of anything.
Bog i Hrvati.
communism is dead already. communism was an aberration that was engineered by ruling elites to contain the threat of collectivism, socialism or anarcho-syndicalism to the established order of elite rule and exploitation of the masses. however, the real monster is well and truly alive….. it’s not called communism
Death to Communism!

I’m convinced the whole “Croatian cops beating up migrants on the border” is just fake news probably leaked by Croatia or the EU border control agencies to prevent economic migrants from trying to jump the border.

I see the exact same story copy and pasted over and over again with no photos or videos (which you would assume would be easy to obtain considering everyone has a phone nowadays especially if the incidents occur as frequently as they are reported).
@Ivo
That’s why I support Viktor Orbán Prime Minister of Hungary and a hero of Europe.

Exactly, if Croatia had an excellent free market, we’d be plagued by the migrant problem and other free-loaders….
That’s why we gotta steal a page from Wakanda’s play book. We can pretend to be backwards, meanwhile we are a wealthy technologically advanced nation. 🙂
In other news: latest transfer rumors has Kovacic joining AC Milan, that would make 4 Hrvati at the club!
Croatia had survived worse. If we had a good free market
Economy we would dealing with economic migrants
And free loaders like Western Europe. Croatia
Wouldn’t be Croatia anymore . Look at shitty France or England.
This football success has been unbelievable, but the country is hurting economically. We all knew the national team always had the ability to achieve big things. Unfortunately, it never reached its true potential because of bad management. Likewise the fatherland has been let down by its leaders and young capable people are emigrating. How can we help the country achieve its economic potential? ZDS
@ Iggy,
My bad man. I don’t know why your posts have been going into Mod. Same with Slavonac. But I will loosen the restrictions. It got pretty ridiculous around here pre-WC.
Stay with us. You’re one of my favorite posters.
what is your “croatian ultras scene” going to involve? going to a restaurant to watch matches together?
and a crnac and a muslim and a vegetarian? then can i please be in your gang?
what about if someone is a yugo and a homo? can i apply then?
Is there anyone in the New York New Jersey area who wants to create a Croatian Ultra scene? No Yugos or Homos need apply.
@ Maminjo
Inter Zapresic is the full take over!
If they sign Modrić then I can go with IZ.
IC is really what they have right now with 3 Hrvati starters in the CL.

I remember being blown away by this kids pace at the u17 World Cup a couple of years ago.
Put him down as a right winger for us as well for the UNL.
Love to see both him and Dejan as brothers in the squad for Euro 2020.
Kovač .. Leko .. and now Lovren brothers!
I want to see all these young hungry Hrvati ballers take the the next step in their club careers.
Davor Lovren is going to grow leaps and bounds in the bundesliga.
Add the UNL to his development and you could have a young phenom on your hands.
as a good cro ..im telling iggy just stay..i like yur posts.
I still think they should be called Inter Zapresic
@ Ante
Full credit to Bobby V for InterCroatzionale. I was merely and enthusiastic teammate.
Kalinic is a meat head who cares if he plays for AC Milan. Kaliningrad Kalinic is Russian. Looks like Inter Milan will have to pay a 1 billion clause for Luka Modric if they want him for the next 2 years of his contract.
@ iGGY
It was a blast.
Okay im out.
MY last few posts have all been moderated to hell, im out now, i can’t stand this moderation anymore. Have a nice life all and adios
Aww.hehe ty Crnkovic, i appreciate that!
This month has been SO special to me and im sure a few million other croats, i just love it!
My dad is 80 years old now so this is prolly the last time he’ll see such an awesome performance from us, but we both sat together and watched ’98 and also ’18. I just love it, so moved, so happy, so proud, u couldnt be more proud than a Croat atm.. so happy 🙂 Brings tears to my eye 🙂
Kvartuc, I was hoping to get more from you bro.
Kovacic has always done a good job in a defensive role with opportunity to move forward at certain times throughout the game. At Real, he was his best when given an assignment and he’s explosive on the counter-attack…it seems to suit him.
Mourinho is a defensive first style of coach…this is why I can see him doing well. Kovacic never really impresses me in a free role, his offensive style is a hit or miss and he’s inconsistent.

watch Iggy’s Vatreni world cup tribute. Great vid, thanks Iggy
Manchester United is considering paying €50 million ($58.5 million) for Ante Rebić — a player the club could have signed for €1.8 million ($2.1 million) just eight weeks ago. – Business Insider 7-25-2018.
Katic scored again for Rangers (this time vs Osijek), not bad for a back. I think he is a left footed defender that could play well for us on the left side of a 3 back system. Worth putting him on the National Team roster again.
Only reason Modric would move, is for the same reason Ronaldo left…to escape jail time and fines in Spain.
Perfect time to leave before Real crumbles next season.
I think he would do well anywhere…but he needs to play. It’s time.
Kvartuc, I kinda agree with you about Kovacic going to Man U but I wonder why you think he would do well? I’ll tell you my opinion after I see yours…would like to understand how you came to that conclusion?
This is great news for Croatian football, and things certainly have been steadily building in this direction. What I wonder is how will this help further results for the national team?
Hopefully becoming leading figures at big clubs will help our players play with more command, like they did against Nigeria, Argentina, Iceland, England and France. This team still has room for improvement, so maybe the big-club experience all around the team is the next step. Rebic has always been a favorite of Niko Kovac, so it might be good for him to join Bayern Munich and continue working with Kovac—he improved a lot with Kovac at Frankfurt. Kovacic was already playing very well for Real Madrid. His issue is that he is so versatile that he is still looking to establish a definitive role on the pitch. Having Vida and Lovren play together regularly would be great. After that, Liverpool can add Mitrovic too. 😉
