Rakitić, Modrić, Mandžukić Short Listed For Ballon d’Or

October 8, 2018

Three Croatians have been short-listed for December 3rd’s Ballon d’Or award in Paris. Alongside world elite Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Aguero, to name a few, 2018 FIFA Player of the Year Luka Modrić will join Ivan Rakitić and Mario Mandžukić on the 30-man list, The Guardian reports.

Rakitić and Mandžukić will not be favorites to win the award, but Luka Modrić is. Modrić has already won the Champions League title with Real Madrid this season, took Croatia to the World Cup Final, won the World Cup Golden Ball, won the UEFA Player of the Year award, and won the FIFA Best Men’s Player of the Year.

2018 was a year in which Croatians took over. Will one more individual award be captured by a man in red and white checkers?

Would nation be surprised if Modrić did not win it?

So who do we use in goal vs England? Livakovic has the hierarchy but Letica has been playing well in Belgium.

For those who dont know, Lovre Kalinic is out with injury

  2. Real Modric says:

Zvonimir Boban finished like 24th in Balon Dor voting once he didnt win to many individual awards.

Not bad mouthing anyone but just telling truth. What achievement when it’s not real?. Rakitic and mandzukic are not amongst the 30 best players

  4. NK Drava - Ludbreg says:

Apparently some people think they are top 30.
That doesn’t make it absolute. However, they are the ones deciding on the shortlist so it is factual and correct.
So…until you get a vote sit back and enjoy the recognition for 3 of our own- assuming we are the same???

About Olmo, why the fuck do we have to play this wait and see. He accepted the Spics U21 call up. He is using
Croatia. The HNS should give him an ultimatum now. We lost Stanisic to Germany with this wait shit.

  6. Lika Joey says:

Olmo should not be allowed to play for Croatia!!! Two years in the country…i hope he goes home to Spain.

  7. Lika Joey says:

Truth…just like when you called Modric a bust. Mandzo and especially Rakitic deserve to be there. Firmino…Mane would never be on my list.

    Hey Joey K,
The truth is not Živa. Fact, because I know Živa personally and he is retired from this site! He’s just using the same schtick, although poorly, imo.
Empirically, All three Cro candidates have earned their nominations.

Having 3 Croatian players on the list for the award is awesome and way better than none. :) Olmo should play for Spain. Better than some African. Croatia has talent in the pipeline. Antonio Marin and Mario Vušković made the best 60 young talents in world football.
