21 year-old Zagreb native Borna Ćorić defeated 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals of the Shanghai Rolex Masters on Saturday but wasn’t able to get past Novak Djokovic in the Final; losing 6-3, 6-4. Ćorić is on the rise and could very soon meet fellow Croatian Marin Čilić in the top 10 of world ranked tennis players.

Ćorić has played some incredible tennis in 2018 and looks to finish the year strong as he has catapulted through the ATP rankings. He is currently ranked 19th in the world, but will move to #13 after Shanghai. The Shanghai Masters is an ATP Masters 1000 event, which is regarded as one of the top nine tournaments outside of the Grand Slams.

So now that discussion we were having about having 2 top 10 guys is looking on the money!

Borna beat Fed his last two matches and they are 2-2 head to head.

One thing i want to point out, before playing Coric, Federer won a close match in controversial circumstances vs Bautista-Agut.

There was a dodgy (and by dodgy i mean blatantly wrong) call made to favour Fed and basically set up him for the win in the 3rd when it was close. Bautista-Agut actually came out and said what we’ve all been saying since that Cilic – Fed final in Aus – the favouritism Fed gets is fucking BS.

Anyone with eyes can see this is what happens. The big guys, teams etc ALWAYS get massively favoured by refs. It’s such an issue in all sports. Obviously we see it with our beloved Vatreni all the time but it’s even more sickening in tennis because the umpires should have less of a way to interfere… yet they do.

During that AO final – and we had very pro fed commentators on aus tv – even they were saying Cilic is having to “challenge” line calls 2-3 times per set that are blatantly wrong and are always going Fed’s way.

IT just sickens me that it’s impossible to get fair umpiring in any sport these days. Anyway that’s my rant and i say it cos it makes Coric’s win even sweeter to my mind! Onya Borna! Onwards and upwards! :D

Nice post Iggy. This is croatian sports. All sports not only nogomet but rowing, tennis, boxing etc. Keep up the good work.

Everyone loves Federer, great player to watch, so graceful across the court, that single handed backhand that sets him apart from the others, so elegant!

Yeah Coric (Djokovic clone) beat Federer last night, he was on good on him.
I did hear that Federer had gastro the night before though, and Coric was helped by Del Potro’s retirement, but like I said before you gotta make hay while the sun shines, let’s see if Coric can.

Coric gave a good account of himself.

Bit unlucky for Coric that Djokovic didn’t have a fucked or knee or at the very least gastro the night before like Federer.
