Luka Modrić and Real Madrid escaped Holland with a 2-1 road victory against Ajax after an incredibly controversial VAR ruling denied Ajax their opening goal in the first half. Real Madrid would finally get into their normal rhythm in the second half with Benzema knocking one into the upper left corner and Marco Asensio scoring the winner late off a wonderful cross from the sideline. Modrić had an average game and pushed forward when he could but was not as active in the Madrid offense as he usually is. With two away goals and a victory on the road, Real Madrid are half way to the CL quarterfinals.

Luka Modrić and reigning European champions Real Madrid face a tricky Ajax tie in the Champions League Round of 16 Wednesday night from Amsterdam.
After a ridiculously slow start to the season, Real Madrid are hitting on more cylinders than ever in the past six months; only trailing La Liga leaders Barcelona by six points. Los Blancos have also made it to the Copa del Rey semifinals, where they drew Barcelona 1-1 at Nou Camp in the first leg.
With a good showing against Dutch side Ajax, Real Madrid can push forward in Champions League to defend their crown. However, it will be the toughest season yet at they will not have Ronaldo this time around in the knockout rounds.
Luka Modrić will have to be in his best CL form yet if the club is going to embark on more European silverware this season; but it will come as under dogs the rest of the way. Barcelona, Juventus and Manchester City are all better clubs at the moment and Modrić & Co. will have to break out their bag of tricks if they want to replicate their domincace in Europe over the past decade.
The Aussie Rules strip looks good, but boy would a black strip with a red and white checkered sash look way better, Richmond style minus the yellow sash!

@ Ante
Average day for Luka is still extraordinary!!
Actually love that Scolari plays him forward as he knows his quality needs to be expressed closer to goal.
Let Casemiro and Kroos track back.
If you don’t run you don’t play with Scolari.
Luka still looks quick against a young, fast and talented Ajax.
His longevity is legend.
