Rijeka Down Dinamo 3-1 To Take 5th Croatian Cup Crown

May 22, 2019

Dinamo Zagreb hit the ground running this season. They were never going to be caught on their way to the Prva Liga title and they went near perfect in the Europa League group stage; where they ultimately made it all the way to the Round of 16. Wednesday night’s Croatian Cup Final against Rijeka in Pula was supposed to cap off another dominant season for the Modri.

However, it was Rijeka that pulled the rug from under Dinamo in a 3-1 win. Dinamo only lost two matches to Croatian clubs this season and Rijeka made it three after a game changing Simon Sluga penalty block in the 73rd minute against Dinamo’s Daniel Olmo. The penalty would have tied the game up for Dinamo at 2-2; instead Rijeka bagged an insurance goal to take down mighty Dinamo Zagreb.

Gotta feel bad for Olmo, the guy has been great for Dinamo this whole season and in the Europa League. Petković has been extremely quiet lately for Dinamo, I’m surprised he was called up instead of guys like Moro or Oršić.

  2. Poglavnik says:

Glad it was saved and I’ve been a Dinamo fan since the early 90’s.
That was way too soft a call. His arm was tight to his body.
Shouldn’t have to rely on help from the refs in a cup final to beat Rijeka.

  3. Maminjo says:

Petković is not that good at all.

    Oršić is a lot better.

  4. Dannyj says:

Any word on the capping olmo situation?

  5. Suba says:

    Olmo won’t choose us

Who would have ever thought that Igor Biscan would be a coach I saw a different future for him

I’d give Petkovic another go Perisic didn’t seem to mind him

    Forza Fiume!

  7. crnkovic says:

correct call on penalty. great save

  8. Adam says:

Just a heads up Biscan has been a professional coach for only 3 years now . He was won the 2. HNL with Rudes, Won the title and cup in Slovenia and now won the Cup in Croatia with Rijeka. He has a total of 4 trophies in 3 years as a coach. Pretty shocking that hes not getting more recognition for his coaching work.
