Lovren Extends Croatian CL Dominance To 7 Straight Years

June 1, 2019

Dejan Lovren remained on the bench Saturday night in Madrid as he watched his Liverpool side defeat Tottenham 2-0 to claim their sixth Champions League crown. Although Lovren did not step onto the pitch, he extends Croatia’s steak of having an international football player win the Champions League to seven straight years.

It’s an impressive streak for such a small country; especially coming off a second place finish at the World Cup.

Liverpool took the crown in one of the most lackluster Champions League finals to date. The match opened with a first minute penalty to Salah. Then not much happened for 85 minutes until Origi bagged an insurance goal to seal the deal for Liverpool.

Lovren battled injuries throughout the season and lost his starting spot to Matip. We will see what manager Jurgen Klopp plans to do with his Croatian center-back this summer.

Yeah. It was a solid match from lovren. Biggest smile in the stadium. True team spirit. Very very important

  2. Dannyj says:

    Great for lovren and Liverpool
Guessing he will be moved next year?

    So many injuries
Sure hope Vlasic can be back for the u 21s

We just need to somehow get this win against Wales and regroup over the summer

Even with the injuries we got to be favorites at home

  3. Anonymous says:

Giggs has told the refs to take the Welsh players off the ground if they suffer racist abuse from the Croatian scum.

Let’s not forget that scum Ryan Giggs fucked his brothers wife as well.

  4. Medo says:

Joke of a PK …you don’t call that in such a big game or even a game of little importance for that matter, and we should know.
The British press just can’t stop shyting on poor Dejan, even when he doesn’t play.

  5. Anonymous says:

Giggs conducted an eight-year affair with his brother Rhodri’s wife, Natasha. The affair resulted in members of Giggs’ family repudiating their former ties to Ryan; after Ryan was appointed as manager of the Wales national team, his father Danny said he was “ashamed” of him and that “I can’t even bring myself to use his name”

  6. BZ says:

Was talking to my contact at the Savez on Friday, and asked him to tell Dalic to include Halilovic on the roster vs Wales. Given all our injuries, I think this would be a wise move. Not sure of anything came of it.

  7. Dannyj says:

I thought the halilovic call up was the result of Laknats infiltration of the HNS injuring various players to make way for the god of halilovic
Who knows maybe he plays and has a good game. I’m as hopeful as anyone

Really I guess we will be short on depth but the starting lineup still has enough quality to take em before needing to make subs. Won’t be easy

Who plays who that weekend? What are the results we are looking for?

  8. the truth says:

The great hilarity will be if halilovic pulls a rabbit out of the hat… Plays and gives an assist or knocks in one of his outside the box goals…. This whole board will be going wild that halilovic needs to be our starting wing going forward… Especially soul champ

I’ve actually in well documented nature still not given up on halilovic like many here. His future still in doubt but he has enough talent and youth on his side to figure things out eventually. Still seems like a generally low iq, one footed player though

  9. Soul Champ says:

    @ BZ

    LMFAO ..

Apparently your guy at the Savez spoke to Dalić on your behalf!

    @ LAKnat

Is it finally your boys time to shine?

  10. Cro Jersey Guy says:

The Tottenham Goalkeeper makes me wonder if the game was fixed he never put his hands up to save that penalty instead of letting it just go in.

  11. Maminjo says:

    Is Vlašić injured?

If so, that is a huge loss for us.

Vlašić, like Rebić, is an impact player. We really needed those two for this critical match.

  12. gbvh says:

“Dominance” continued via a guy who rarely sees the field?

Pump the brakes, as they say …

    Homosexuals of June.

  14. the truth says:

Would the board rather have Croatia make the euros and exit in first round or make the Olympics and take gold?

  15. Maminjo says:

We’ll win the World Cup in 20 years.

Got our bronze in 98, and our silver in 2018.

Gold will come in World Cup 2038 in India.

  16. Anonymous says:

    ^

Lol, Croatia will look like France then, our racist fans won’t give a shit at that point.

  17. Soul Champ says:

Halilovic was playing great at Las Palmas before an ankle injury set back. He was displaying a mature game, making good choices in the final third.

Gatuso is a bit of a block head and doesn’t really understand offensive players.

    Club tribulations aside.

Halilovic has been a leader for the U21 crew.

He is the best RIGHT WINGER in the player pool at the HNS.

Along with LAKnat, I pray that he has a breakthrough against Wales along with his Dinamo mate Kovačić.

Both can skip by defenders and create space for our other available weapons. Wales cannot account for them with everyone else they need to worry about.

    @ Ziva

So now you are claiming your consistent unwavering support for Halilovic during his years of club struggles to be our starting RW?

    Hilarious !!

  18. Miloš Hvar says:

Kovacic and Rakitic both being linked with Inter… would hope Perisic would find a way to stay if both or one of the two end up there. How fun would it be to have those 3, Brozo, and Sime playing together. I don’t like Perisic to Man U… I want him playing Champions League ball

  19. Stipe says:

Lovren linked to Lazio now that his contract is done and no way Liverpool re-signs him.

  20. Dannyj says:

I’m surprised lovren not trying to go to inter as well
Being good buddies with vrsaljko and all
However isn’t vrsaljko only on loan?
Atletico I guess could ask for him back
I suppose all depends how he recovers from surgery

  21. vuki says:

Truth, I’m not sure how many people have actually given up on Halilovic? Anyone to give up on a player at 22 years old is quite dumb. A lot of people have said he hasn’t panned out, doesn’t mean he still can’t. Personally would not mind him starting the match again Wales, but I honestly don’t think Dalic will even give him a shot unless we take a big lead. I really hope he does get the shot though considering the only wingers will be Perisic, Brekalo, and Halilovic. I think either Halilovic or Brekalo (most likely Brekalo) will start on the right OR they will make Kramaric play there again and start Petkovic. Those are the only lineups that make sense to me.

Also, do we think Lovren should get the start at CB even though he hasn’t been playing as much or give it to Benkovic/Caleta-Car? I personally think Lovren will for the chemistry with Vida. Maybe we end up playing Vida at RB or LB like we have before? This is what lineup I’m personally expecting.

    ST: Kramaric
    LW: Perisic
    CAM: Modric
    RW: Brekalo
    CM: Kovacic
    CM: Brozovic
    LB: Barisic
    CB: Vida
    CB: Lovren
    RB: Jedvaj
    GK: Livakovic

  22. . .Crnkovic says:

Matip has been excellent. But lovren is still a better player when fit and in form. He will stay at Liverpool and play plenty

  23. Branko says:

When has Lovren been both “fit and in form!” Over the last 4 years at Liverpool. With Virgil,Matip and joe Gomez ,Dejan is headed for a long spell watching if he was to be re-signed.
    He’s as good as gone!

  24. Soul Champ says:

    @ Ziva

    I like your question.

I’ll take gold medal at the Olympics.

It has more of an international cachet.

Also it would support the club careers of all those young players on the rise.

  25. Miloš Hvar says:

Does anyone know if Vlasic is out for u21 as well? Already a huge loss for our senior squad. Would be catastrophic for the mladi

  26. Loren says:

Dejan Lovren – Why no Croatian flag wrapped around you at trophy presentation?

Butthurt from being left out a few times previously?

    Asshole

  27. CroatiaU14 says:

    @Miloš

I’m pretty sure his injury is very small, nothing serious. Chances are that he will be back for the Euro u21.

  28. Anonymous says:

Both Matip and Robertson are much more error prone than Lovren. Virgil Lovren is there best combo for Liverpool. Lovren was a complete stud for Croatia during World Cup and like a lot of our hero’s paid the price in club team play this year he will be starting again soon.

  29. Dannyj says:

When did rebic get his game back?

Let’s face it if weren’t for kovac he might have been lost
If we have the halilovic convo two years from now he will probably be lost for good
But for now let’s see what happens

  30. Cro Jersey Guy says:

Barcelona’s new jersey for next season have the Red and blue sahovnica. Barcelona have copied the Croatia jersey design.

  31. vuki says:

    @Suba

Why would we be saying that? His goals aren’t his main contributions. He is just a menace that constantly runs at defenders and pressures and physically abuses them. I would definitely like him to score more for us, but that’s just not his main role.

  32. Toronto Croatia Toronto Croatia says:

That’s hilarious regarding Barcelona copying our kits .. or Nike copying our kits for Barcelona..however you want to look at it.

How do you say ..imitation is the sincerest form of flattery in Spanish?

  33. Dannyj says:

Rebic’s club career has flipped around in the past couple years Suba.
Is he world class as some like to say…no
But as Vuki said he is a menace and has the ability to make chances and score outside of the box

I know he had some health problems but some had written him off just like halilovic.
    Rebic is now 25
    Halilovic is just turning 23
We must give him a bit more time
Maybe if he stumbled on his own version of kovac he would be ok

The talent is there it’s always been there. The attitude and work ethic probably weren’t. But hopefully by now he has realized it’s not just going to fall on his plate

He has been a leader for the the youth so u never know
Maybe he can be one of those guys who play better for national then club team… i for one would have no issue with that;)

  34. Dannyj says:

That pic of the Barca jersey has been floating around for a while now
Funniest thing is raketa may not be there to wear it

  35. Dannyj says:

I’ve asked this before but with the season all done
Who do u guys think will be moving and who do u guys think need to move
    Where and why
Let’s get some discussion going up to the game

  36. Cro Jersey Guy says:

Looks like Real Madrid like their Luka’s they have signed Luka Jovic. Rakitic to Manchester United/PSG?

  37. Toronto Croatia Toronto Croatia says:

@Anonymous .. I’m pretty sure our kit was inspired by the Croatian Grb and not the Boavista strip. Not sure what inspired Barcelonas new kit though? What do you think?

  38. Cro Jersey Guy says:

Messi got inspired by Croatia defeating Argentina 3:0 at the World Cup so he told Barcelona about the new sahovnica design. Too Easy.

  39. Soul Champ says:

I love Lovren .. and hope he can put in a shift for us in Osijek.

    But his brand is CORNY!!

    WTF is a unisex perfume??

My man needs to find a club where he can start and get back to playing some football.

  40. Elvis says:

    @Soul

He does have a flare for himself. Hollywood has hit him. I don’t know if he will have that hunger again. I think Unisex is a person sexually aroused by Unicorns but I could be wrong.

  41. Dannyj says:

I hope lovren wakes the f up
    Hasn’t played in a while
Glad he got the champions league

But we have big job ahead of us
    Hopefully Luka takes control
He hasn’t had the greatest of seasons
They need to take care of business now if they don’t want to be laughed at by their club guys

Can we ever just qualify without this stress jeez

  42. Misko says:

Lovren is an embarrassment to any Croat
Who the F does he think he is and what’s with him pushing sane and tugging on his team mates jerseys after the game.
Now a cologne with his faux macho tats.
He needs to vanish and the sooner the better!
No wonder Anita was whoring around on him.

    @Toronto Croatia

All I’m saying is that Boavista was wearing a checkered strip before the former Yugoslav republic of Croatia even became an antifacist republic.
