Rijeka Give Up Early Lead, Lose 2-1 To Gent

Rijeka manager Igor Bišćan after the match

Rijeka started their night off right in Belgium after an onslaught of possession and mini-attacks from Gent in their 1st leg Europa League Playoff match. Although Gent was knocking on the door nearly the entire first half, Rijeka broke the deadlock in the 39th minute as Tibor Halilović banged in a low shot inside the far post to give Rijeka the lead going into halftime.

But the lead would not hold as Gent’s Laurent Depoitre would score twice within 14 minutes to earn his side a 2-1 victory. Rijeka’s defense fell short on both occasions with marking in the box leading to both goals. However, all is not lost for Rijeka as they only need a 1-0 win at home next week to progress to the Europa League Group Stage.

Pretty awesome for a group stage Europa and champions league
Don’t let some super liberal North American see that Indian symbol from Gent… so offensive to them lolol

  2. Maminjo says:

Why does Gent even have a Native American as their logo?

God knows how many times Croats have been labeled as racist monsters in Belgium. Belgians are supposed to be progressive. Let’s put it to the test.

I say we start an online petition to draw attention to it, and force them to change it, lol.

  3. BZ says:

Sarcasm/trolling from the past aside, let’s seriously show how un-racist the diaspora are. Love for all.

  4. Maminjo says:

Shame they lost, but 2-1 is still a good scoreline.

Gent will probably need to score in Rijeka if they want to go through.
