Croatia Draw Wales 1-1, Still In Complete Control Of Euro Berth

October 12, 2019

wales hrvatska gol 0-1

Vlašić scores off the post to open up the scoring for Croatia

Croatia Starting XI vs. Wales: (4-2-3-1): Livaković – Barišić, Vida, Lovren, Jedvaj – Modrić, Kovačić – Perišić, Vlašić, Brekalo – Petković

The Vatreni started off their second to last Euro 2020 qualifier against Wales in fantastic fashion. Young bloods Josip Brekalo and Nikola Vlašić got the start in place of veterans Ivan Rakitić and Ante Rebić. The tandem linked up for Croatia’s lone go through Bruno Petković when Brekalo broke down the left side and into the box through the Welsh defense; ultimately getting the ball to Vlašić; whose shot went off the post and in for the 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of play.

During the rest of the first half, it appeared that Wales would be happy with a 1-0 loss as very little offensive pressure was applied by them, leading to the home fans in Cardiff ‘booing’ their Welsh players. It wasn’t until late in first half injury time that Wales would make their first push which resulted in a controversial goal. It appeared that Mateo Kovačić was clearly fouled from the back which led to him losing the ball and Wales getting the ball quickly to Gareth Bale across the box for the equalizer. It changed the entire momentum of the game going into the second half but still no excuse for the Vatreni as their talent overshadowed anything that Wales had to offer.

It may have been a make-up call by the referee for Dejan Lovren’s shoulder charge in the box during the 8th minute of play. That could have easily been called a penalty and maybe that was the reason Lovren was a bit hesitant to defend Bale on his shot in the box. With yellow cards during the Wales match, both central defenders Dejan Lovren and Domagoj Vida will not be available for Croatia’s last qualifier against Slovakia next month. Croatia only need a draw in that match to punch their ticket to Euro 2020.

  1. Kyle Picinic says:

Same line up as last game with Kovacic playing instead of the suspended Brozovic.

If Croatia is tied or losing at half, Brakelo needs to come in for Rebic.

  2. Maminjo says:

    Vlašić over Kovačić.

Dalić could play a Kovačić, Modrić, Vlašić trio… with Rakitić taking a rest since he hasn’t been playing regularly for Barca.

But I don’t think Dalić likes Kovačić’s game.

I don’t blame him for that.

  3. Suba says:

    Rakitic to replace Brozovic
    Don’t see room for Kovacic
    It’s a stacked team

Gotta see all of our attacking guns play too

This business of keeping brekalo and Vlasic is not sustainable why halt their clear and obvious progress

Sorry folks if that means that Rebic sits out so be it or it’s between Rebic and Vlasic starting I’m ok with that too

  4. Canadian Croat says:

This will be the toughest match of our qualifying campaign. Wales desperately need a win to stay alive. Our away record hasn’t been good in qualifiers. We’ve only won away matches two in the last two years. Wales also have a great home record. I’m praying for a win but it won’t be easy. A draw would be satisfying. Only changes I would make for Wales fixture is Vlasic & Kovacic in.

  5. Tomas says:

I got my flag hanging out my window tonight and I
Expect nothing less than a most glorious victory
Tomorrow. And the Yankees lose tonight to,
    -ZDS-

  6. Dalmatia says:

I agree with CroatiaU14, put Rakitić back in DM and push Vlašić in attacking position. We win and have control throughout.

  7. Dalmatia says:

I agree with CroatiaU14, put Rakitić back in DM and push Vlašić in attacking position. We win and have control throughout.

  8. Soul Champ says:

    Vlašić starts.

Love Rakitic back as DM, used to thrive their with Sevilla.

Kovačić in for him once he tires.

Brekalo early in the second half as a different look for Wales.

Petković has opportunity to showcase his skills in England.

  9. Maminjo says:

I hope we demolish them, like we did Slovakia and Hungary simply for the reason that these Commonwealth teams have more worldwide coverage.

You know that there is a far greater audience that would watch this game, over the games we had against Slovakia and Hungary.

England, Canada, USA, Australia, India, etc.
They will all probably televise this game on their sports channels, simply because of Wales being part of the UK.

  10. BZ says:

Seems consensus says Rakitic at cdm with Vlasic up top with Modric in our inverted triangle press. I agree.

if we come out lethargic due to the short turnover and travel (much like Azer game), at least 1 halftime sub(s) is a must. Other subs must be used by 65 minute mark.

Good news: Unlike Azer who were well rested (they didn’t play or travel in the days leading up to our game), Wales played AND travelled also. NO EXCUSES!

  11. Marko says:

    Up too should be

    Perisic – Vlasic – Brekalo
    Rebic
Arguably u can switch Rebic out with a few choices up top. Gotta stop Bale’s speed. He caused problems for us last qualifying campaign we were in together. Rakitic DM great choice – should go 4-2-3-1 …D looked fine surprisingly but Hungary ain’t much to go by…keep that the same .. Raketa and Modric at DM ? Kovacic good sub, Badelj ok sub for DM but haven’t seen him play lately..anyone know if he’s been starting/ playing well at Fiorentina ?

  12. Marko says:

The bull in the china shop Rebic had excellent game against the Hungarians and near the end he was controlling the ball getting constant touches like Modric lol might be a bit of a stretch but I haven’t seen him with that much confidence on touches I dont think ever. Re watched the semi WC highlights vs England and his pressure and speed was outstanding. Caused those chirpers all sorts of problems.

  13. Marko says:

Oops how can I forget about Bruno – he deserves the start especially with that cheeky back heel goal – as long as the others see adequate playing time I think we got this. Za Dom Spremni !!!

  14. Marko says:

Rebic, Kovacic subs …apologies for the multiple posts too much Gemišt / Sjlivo today for thanksgiving weekend !

  15. Anonymous says:

The Welsh have foreign races on their team and put croats in jail who disagree with this suicidal anti-white policy.

  16. Maminjo says:

This is actually a game that Rebić should start, to disrupt Wales from trying to get their offense going.

I think Wales will go all-in for the win.
A draw does nothing for them.

Wales is two points behind Hungary, and lost to Hungary already in their first match with them (they play each other in their final game in Wales).

Assuming neither team lose points in their respective matches to Azerbaijan… Gaining only a single point in this match would still keep Wales behind Hungary (needing a win to leapfrog them).

0 points or 1 point won’t make a difference for Wales. Only 3 points gives them any sort of advantage.

  17. Dannyj says:

Do u guys think we come out trying to bring the thunder or we wait a bit for the counter??

Obviously Wales can’t sit back but maybe it’s a bit like a knockout game where both teams end up waiting for the other to make a mistake like that shitty shitty game against Portugal
That was realistically the most disappointing game for me
Even more then turkey 08 and I’d say even more then the final

Anyways let’s hope tomorrow is action packed
I agree with others this is a game for Rebic to start

I like Rakitić back a bit and maybe he can spring our offense with some deep balls like he used to do in Sevilla

  18. KRKic says:

Rakatic stepped up his game for a short while after Modric was subbed out. He would be a better attacking option then Vlasic.

  19. Andrej L says:

I agree that pushing Rakitic back to CDM seems to be the logical thing to do. Only other option is Badelj who is not necessarily better. Plus Rakitic has played that position before. However, I would put in Kova over Vlasic for defensive purposes. We are away and Wales is teetering on becoming a good team. They have a good mix of young technical talent and some experienced vets. Don’t get me wrong, I still think our midfield 3 next summer will be Brozo, Modric, and Vlasic. With that said, Dalic said that he may make two more changes in conjunction with the Brozovic move.

  20. KarlovacKing says:

am s.hitting bricks….lets win this and qualify so we don’t need to worry about Slovakia and I can enjoy the Canada Thanksgiving Weekend.

  21. Maminjo says:

I want to see guys like Vlasic and Brekalo play more, as they are our future (and that future could be here as early as next year).

However, if Rebic’s energy is not expended from the game in Split, his pressing would be great in this game (where Wales need to score).

I don’t think there is any dropoff if you go with either Rakitic or Vlasic. I’m happy with either one. Kovacic would be fine, if we’re just looking to break up plays, win the ball, and maintain possession.

  22. Crnkovic says:

kovacic will play today for sure. and rightly so. today he will show the world how good he is. today is the day

  23. gbvh says:

Just saw Griezmann’s WWE-esque sell job that ‘earned’ a PK for France in their 1-0 win. Goodness.
And vids of his flop vs. Croatia for the FK showed up alongside it.

  24. BZ says:

We are the 2nd best team in the World.

We will not play to counter.

We will look to dominate, just like we’ve been doing since Dalic found Rebic vs Mexico.

Our first 2 goals vs Hungary were direct results of our high press, and superior players willing to defend fiercely.
1)Modric with the steal and goal.
2)Rebic covers 30 yards in like 2 seconds to steal the ball and dish with his left foot for the goal.

Veering from that formula spells early exit in Euro. It can win vs Wales but it will get us knocked out in the first round of the knockout stages in Euros.

  25. Slavonac from Canada says:

I’m fairly sure we will control the midfield and hold most of the possession, we just need to be careful about their long balls. Bale is really fast and usually only needs a half chance to create something.

If we come out composed and careful defensively, we should be able to win this game. Wales need a win so patience will be important to us.

  26. Marko says:

Happy Thanksgiving to all that celebrate !! It’s go time boys !! Getting fired up, we got this !!! No Ramsey is good. As Slavonac says/totally agree gotta watch for long balls chirper british style and close down bale immediately he’s only world class player they have. Midfield only a few teams in world can barely compete with ours and certainly not the Welsh. Pre drinking has begun and may the goals and Rakija flow like the salmon of Capistrano

    ZDS !!!

  27. Maminjo says:

    @Slavonac

We also need to make crisper back passes to Livakovic.

Last game, there was one that almost got away from him because it was either too soft, or there was maybe a miscommunication with the defender on it.

This also happened in the Dinamo vs Man City match as well.

Livakovic “looks” like a soft-spoken dude (though this assumption is baseless and completely based on his deer-in-the-headlights look on his face).
Not sure if it’s him, but weak backpasses makes me nervous.

I just don’t want to ever see some goal conceded due to a poor backpass.

  28. Maminjo says:

…and yes, if Wales is gonna score it will be from some long ball or a deadball play.

Croatia does well defending the long ball. They proved it with that awesome defending over Nigeria at the World Cup.

But all you need is a dive, and a poor referee decision…and a ball kicked (or thrown) into a crowd.

  29. Slavonac from Canada says:

    Yeah true Maminjo!

Also, set plays and breakages in play can hurt us. In games like this, teams like Wales will look to slow down our flow of play and try for set pieces to score!

  30. CroatiaU14 says:

All three of our teams that played Hungary in the pay three days beat them. Senior side, of course, the u21s won 4-1 and the u19s won 2-0.

@maminjo I agree about Livaković. He looks a little too excited or panicked with the ball sometimes. But he’s young, and that’ll probably become much better as he ages.

  31. Dannyj says:

    Slavonac
I don’t have TSN but just bought it for the day for 5 bucks
As much as I love pulling my hair out looking for streams
Got to get tsn if u don’t have it

  32. Dannyj says:

    Starting line up is released

    Petkovic

    Brekalo Perisic

    Vlasic

    Kovacic. Modric

    Barisic vida Lovren. Jedvaj

    Obvious goalie

  33. CroatiaU14 says:

I love to see Brekalo AND Vlašić in the lineup, wasn’t expecting that. But Kova over Rakitić? Ugh

  34. Dannyj says:

Lol Livaković does look a little like lost puppy in his face

Maybe he commands much better then the appearance

I did see him make some good passes out with Dinamo the bit I saw Wasn’t that supposed to be a thing that he was good with his feet

He looks obviously athletic but of course is young and there is room for improvement and hopefully those mistakes don’t come for us
But he is what we have now
And this experience heading into euro is what he needs

Would be nice if Kalinic can find his game again least so we have more game ready options

  35. Dannyj says:

Maybe he is thinking Kova got the English game going on now??

Maybe they will put in Rakitić after to secure the defense if we need
Maybe swaps Vlasic and Rakitić if we are up??

  36. Anonymous says:

Azerbaijan robbed of a tie scored equalizer in extra time called back for hand ball replay show no hand ball where was VAR?

  37. Anonymous says:

Game on Nova TV if you get Croatian TV on TUDN in Spanish if you have FUBU tv great service only 19 95 per month for first year cares all leagues except Italian

  38. Anonymous says:

All you guys crying about brekalo and Vlasic not playing last game, I told you there’s a game in 3 days, bunch of clowns

  39. Dannyj says:

Very nice awareness by Petkovic on that pass
    And that cross now
He gonna be worth some bucks that’s for sure

  40. BZ says:

Brekalo with a nice run to setup the goal, ala Rebic’s two setups vs Hungary.

Nasty collision! Let’s hope the Welshman is ok

  41. Dannyj says:

    Nasty

We got lucky with the Lovren no call which was a penalty early

I can’t believe there is no VAR in qualifiers

  42. Slavonac from Canada says:

I don’t like games like this where the pace is almost dead. We aren’t creating much and all they need is one flukey goal to get their fans lifting their spirits and taking over.

  43. Anonymous says:

This fucking team never ever ever does anything easy, what a joke to give these guys life in this game, I should have bet my life savings on Wales today, nothing ever fucking changes

  44. Dannyj says:

Is Dalić telling them to sit back or what at that point
We need to keep pressing and get two
All good another half to go
    New game
    Let’s do this

  45. Slavonac from Canada says:

What a fucking shitty strategy for this game. We start out OK, get a goal we were kinda lucky with and then pretend the game is over! What a joke the last 30 minutes of the first half has been!

  46. Mile says:

Guys, the goal was bs. That was as easy a foul call as you’ll ever see. Just example #124 of Croatia getting fucked by officials. Shut my TV off. Can’t watch garbage like Wales getting gifted goals.

  47. Mile says:

I don’t what you guys are complaining about. Croatia got a goal and was sitting back waiting for Wales to make a mistake and counter. They knew they couldn’t create chances. Wales needed a gift from the ref. Just like France needed their gifts because they weren’t going to win the WC final without help. That’s why soccer is maddening to watch.

  48. Anonymous says:

This has the smell of so many shitty
Losses or draws with shitty teams.
Not good. If we can’t win this match
Stay home for the Euro. We suck.

  49. Beetlejuice says:

No Lovren or Vida in our next game, we could potentially be in a great deal of trouble if we don’t get a result here.

  50. gbvh says:

    absolute foul. comedy.
on flip side, croatia looked more interested in playing keep away after going up 1-0 than making it 2-0 or 3-0 etc.

  51. vuki says:

I still have confidence in the team and expect Rebic to come on and run his head off. Brekalo has made a real case to take the starting spot. Vlasic has been okay. Took his goal well, but hasn’t done much since. Petkovic doing well, Kramaric will have to perform well in the next match if he is to keep his spot. Lovren and Vida both out for the Slovakia match now. If I was Dalic, I would come out all guns blazing. Can’t afford to go into a must-win with a completely new CB pairing and that Welsh defense is not good, the goalkeeper is not great either. Just take some shots and test him. If we score early again, Wales is going to get very unsettled and we could easily score again. We need to stop with the sitting back and passing around after going ahead.

  52. Hrmic says:

As a referee, that is a foul any day of the week. How is going through Kovacic from behind not a foul? This Dutch referee is questionable every time I see him as he is good or bad, depending how you look at it, for at least one major screw-up per game.

  53. Marko says:

@mile – very true through – how many goals in games get scored injury time before half or end of game cause o complacency ? Tons – I said 1 min before the goal just clear it and make it to half time and got worried on the play developing and lone behold we got burned. Hopefully that will spark something in em second half as they can’t play sitting back Inviting the pressure. Let’s see what dalic will do with subs

  54. Dannyj says:

On my feed they are saying Wales is still ok with a tie
    That will change Wales tactics.
Maybe they just sit back like they were doing

Bullshit call but we also got bit lucky with the non Lovren call

  55. Dannyj says:

    8 minutes extra time!!
    Never seen that much
I guess let’s just get our point and back to drawing board

  56. Stipe says:

KARMA!!! We got super lucky with Lovren. That was a penalty. Dejan deliberately through his shoulder out. So when Bale scored before halftime. I wasn’t even mad. I knew it was coming.

  57. Slavonac from Canada says:

We made Wales look good today! We took our foot off the gas and could never really gain momentum.

Disappointing game if you ask me. Very few chances created and possession means didly shit if we don’t score!

  58. Mile says:

The Lovren thing was not a penalty. The ball was basically out of bounds at contact. No chance for the Wales guy to get to the ball.

  59. Dannyj says:

So what we got to play Slovakia with two new CBs
    Awful to have to do

So who is going to do all the scenarios??

  60. Dannyj says:

Reffing was all over the place
Ya we got screwed but even Perisic prob should have been called for that late foot on bale in our box

  61. The Great Anonymous Doom says:

As good as Vlasic and Brekalo are, it is crucial for Rebic and Brozovic to be in the starting lineup. The physicality and intensity of those two players makes a big difference. It’s a shame that this game leaves two of our midfielders and possibility our top striker injured…

  62. Stipe says:

    @Mile

So your saying if a Welsh defender did that EXACT same thing to Perisic or Brekalo, you would be crying for a penalty.

  63. Mr. Black says:

I hate to say this but a draw in Wales is the maximum we could take with our defenders.
Almost every team manages to score against us and you can’t say a lot of team succeed to push us back.
If you look where they’re playing, it shouldn’t be a surprise. Jedvaj(Augsburg), Barisic (Rangers), Vida (Besiktas) and Lovren (Liverpool but almost never starting).
Because of Vida’s poor passing game, Modric had to take a yellow and an injury, Rakitic was forced to take a yellow because of Vida too.
It’s probably a good thing that Vida and Lovren are out for the game in Slovakia. I hope someone else will rise to the occasion.

  64. Mile says:

No, I wouldn’t want a penalty for that. It’s cheap. No effect on the play. It was stupid for Lovren to do that, because like I said, no effect on the play. If he doesn’t go near him, the ball still goes out of play.

  65. Stipe says:

I love how before this game people actually thought we were going automatically beat Wales. It’s ridiculous. We never make it easy on ourselves. I just pray that Luka isn’t hurt. And also hope we can come up with 2 good CB’s. Cuz ya know, they are so easy to find…..

  66. JimmyCro says:

    Croatia 14
    Slovaks 13
    Hungary 12
    Wales 11
I am assuming Azerbaijan loses both to Wales/Slovakia

    Croatia V Slovaks
    Wales V Hungary

  67. Mile says:

So the only way Croatia doesn’t qualify is if they lose to Slovakia at home, Slovakia beats Azerbaijan and Wales loses to Hungary at home. Not likely to happen, but it shouldn’t have come to this. The big game they blew is Azerbaijan. They win that and they are already in. Today isn’t so bad, especially when you consider the ref gave Wales their goal.

  68. JimmyCro says:

Wales wins over Hungaru we lose we are still in, Slovaks would win the group, we beat Wales on head to head.

  69. Dannyj says:

Got to put it back in Poljud

I guess duje caleta car is sitting by his phone like a school girl waiting for a boy to call
Or maybe Vrsaljko is back and they do like a Jedvaj mitrovic or Dino Peric

Thought Jedvaj looked pretty good overall
Brekalo ran out of juice but worked
Perisic besides that great attempt header was quiet.
Looks like he lost a bit of his step
To be fair they can run fast

  70. Stipe says:

    @Mile

I understand your point, I really do. But take another look at the replay, the Welsh player could have gotten there. I don’t understand what you mean by a cheap penalty? I would love to see Rakitic get three penalty kicks a game. But I do understand what you mean.

  71. Dannyj says:

So I guess we legit have to start looking at the playoff as a back up
Anyone really figure that non sense out?

  72. Mr. Black says:

One thing is sure we’ll end up before Wales. We’re 6 points ahead of them and even if they win their 2 last games and we’ll lose our last game (at home against Slovakia), we’ll both have 14 points but in our two games against each other, we were the better team (home 2-1 win and 1-1 in Wales today).
Basically if Hungary doesn’t beat Wales at home in their last and only game, we may even lose against Slovakia at home. We would stil qualify.

  73. Marko says:

Disappointing game for sure as we definitely coulda played better but this BS with refs in soccer makes me hate this fuckin game sometimes. Lo͏v͏e/Hate relationship…I can name over 10 instances Croatia has got fucked goin back all the way to 98’ – we must get fucked by the refs more then any other nation. 5 yellows was it and BS calls. Hockey was my #1 sport growing up as Canadian and Soccer was 2nd. This bullshit would never take place in hockey – one of the only fair sports with refs not fuckin u in the guzica. That dutch fuck ref let lovren off cause he prolly knew he fucked us with that through the back challenge on Mateo that led to the goal – I’m not of those who constantly complain about the ref and just venting cause that’s BS. If we lose/tie fair and square that’s one thing – did we deserve to win ? We didn’t play great but they didn’t deserve a goal off that blatant foul… soccer the beautiful game eh…well not for us apparently – oh well – we’ll move forward and still qualify – I hate pessimism as I am an optimist by super frustrating. Rebic looked good no horse on roller skate tackles / good pressure and ref fucked him on a clean steal he called a foul. Is this piece of shit ref fiends with that jap from WC 14 Brazil game and Argentinian ref lasts year? Giggs go fuck your brothers wife you scumbag lol

  74. Dannyj says:

I’m just paranoid bout having a brand new back line

Who plays with Peric at Dinamo lol let’s just roll them together
They did well against man city
    Only half joking

  75. Dalmatia says:

Yes we played like shit after 30 minutes but how many times do we have to get fucked over by refs? Why does nobody ever shoot? We actually should have started Rebić today. Perišic should have be been taken off today. I don’t know the math with the points but not given Vida and Lovren are out…not good, at least the game is at home.

  76. Mile says:

Stipe, you know those plays where a guy dribbles to the end line and gets tripped but the ball is going out of bounds, but the ref calls a penalty. I don’t like those calls either. I believe there should be a play on the ball for it to be called. I don’t think this was close to a chance. I think a penalty should be a 100% no doubter. And I really can’t stand it when a ref gives a red card AND a penalty shot. So you reduce the offending team to 10 men AND give the other team a goal? The game is basically over at that point. I think you give a yellow and a penalty. Like the Denmark guy in injury time against Croatia when he brought down Rebic for the penalty. He was the last guy and probably should have gotten a red card, but the ref (the same asshole that fucked us in the final), gave the Danish guy a yellow.

  77. CiganJeCigan says:

    Cro vs Slovakia

    …………………………….Petkovic………………
    ………………..Krama/Vlasic……………………
    Rebic……………………………………..Brekalo
    ……………..Brozovic….Modric?……………..
    Barasic……Corluka……Jedvaj…..Vrsaljko
    …………………….Livakovic……………………

  78. Razbijač says:

Back line for the last game will prolly look this, assuming Mitrovic is healthy:

    Barasic—Caleta-Car—Mitrovic—Jedvaj

  79. Dannyj says:

It should be good enough if we retain possession in midfield
I worry if we try playing for ties
We all know how that goes

Even today if we went balls to the wall offense against bale
9 out of 10 times we win that

  80. Mile says:

And for those talking about draw scenarios if we qualify, we are definitely going to be at best a pot 2 seed.

  81. Marko says:

Slow joes 10 game suspension must surely be up lol ! Za Dom Spremni ! Corluka if he has any speed/gas left in the tank would be a good come back kid/well senior …his brain on reading the game and height in aerial battles was crucial at times over past decade for us. Header Goal against Turkey euro 12 qualifying was beauty

  82. Mr. Black says:

I’d play Katic (Celtic Glasgow) and Peric (Dinamo Zagreb) as central defenders against Slovakia.
Mitrovic plays for Club Bruges but he’s more injured than not
No way Vrsaljko will be ready for Slovakia, so I’d keep Jedvaj as RB.
Maybe considering Bradaric from Lille in France as LB. He’s in their starting 11 and he’s about 20 years old.

  83. Mr. Black says:

Luckily Modric’s injury apparently not that bad. Apparently it looks like he’ll be fine in a few days.

  84. Anonymous says:

Lovren play never a penalty no play on the ball and he runs into lovrens way not for chance to play ball but hope of a cheap penalty call. Having said that Lovren could have been more careful.

  85. Canadian Croat says:

I didn’t get the chance to watch the game. I was pumped after I saw the update and Vlasic scored. It’s disappointing we couldn’t get a win today. Then we wouldn’t have had to worry about beating Slovakia. That game in November would of be meaningless if we won today. No excuses against Slovakia last game. We’re playing at home and it’s our last one.

  86. Iggy Iggy says:

a 1-1 draw away to Wales is actually not a bad result. Keep in mind they made Euro 2016 semis and beat Belgium 3-1 on the way so they aren’t terrible. As a result it’s okay but, yeah, we didn’t play great, one of those games where we go up a goal and dont know what to do and let the other team back in it like when Hungary beat us.

  87. Poglavnik says:

    We’re well on course.
Wales we’re semifinalists at the last Euro.
It was never gonna be easy on the road against a desperate team with some quality players.
Our last match against Slovakia was the best we’ve played since the WC and we’re at home this time. As long as we don’t take them lightly we should be good. Having said that without our starting centre halves we probably will need to put one in the back of the net.

  88. Mile says:

Don’t care what pot we’re in either. Just letting everybody know where we stand. I would actually prefer pot 3. We have always played better against good teams. Even at the World Cup. The toughest game for me was the Denmark game. More so than England and France.

  89. Stipe says:

    @ Mile

I see what you mean. I understand. Besides that, I’m worried about this team. I really hate it when other people are thinking about what pot we are going to be placed in? Who cares!! I just want us to qualify. That’s the most important thing, not what pot we’re going to be in.

  93. Soul Champ says:

Vida goes for steal .. and opens us up .. Modrić has to layout his body to save the point.

Lovren bone head shoulder bump was a clear penalty and no one has more homer glasses than me.

I am glad Dalic has to figure something out at CB for Slovakia.

    Brekalo and Vlašić are starters.

Rebić needed more minutes today as Petković faded.

Dalic seems to delay substitutions a bit.

    I’ll take the point.

Playing for all the marbles in Rijeka.

Dalic does he best work with must win games.

Brozovic will be ready to go.

    Jedvaj RB?

Wonder who can come in at RB and slide Jedvaj as one of CB’s.

  94. Anonymous says:

Just rewatched the foul on Kovacic its brutal possible red card never mind a foul hope he didn’t break anything.

  95. Maminjo says:

Imagine if we lose to Slovakia?

We would have to wait three days to see if Azerbaijan can take points from Slovakia or if Wales can avoid a loss to Hungary.

Also, Wales has to beat Azerbaijan in their match before the Hungary game. If they lose or draw that game, they are out…and may not be motivated in the Hungary game after that.

Just wanna be a buzz kill for everyone here.

  96. Maminjo says:

We have defenders to replace Vida and Lovren… but we haven’t really played any of them.

    – Duje Caleta-Car is starting for Marseilles, so that’s good.
    – Peric looks pretty decent on Dinamo too.
    – I hear good things about Katic, who starts at Rangers next to Barisic.
    – Simunovic plays for Celtic and is starting there.
    – Benkovic would be great, but he’s been placed on Leicester’s U23 team since he’s recovering from a summer injury.
    – Uremovic starts for Rubin Kazan, but the dude’s never even sniffed our national team yet.

Jedvaj can slide into the CB spot, but then we’d probably have to start Bartolec at RB (which is bad). I hope we don’t play Melnjak or Skoric in our back four either. None of these three should ever be called up.

This could be a good thing, as we need to see what we’ve got in some of these younger CBs…but this is a dangerous time to be forced to test this out.

It’s hard to see Dalic NOT go with Duje Caleta-Car since he’s used him before, and he’s starting in the French League. He messed up the last time he played with us, but still checks all the boxes for an in-form defender who plays regularly on a good club.

Katic having chemistry with Barisic, and Peric having chemistry with Livakovic (due to playing on the same clubs) may be a good option too. But they would be playing in a high stakes game for the first time.

Benkovic is our biggest talent back there, but he’s not in form I guess. That’s a shame. I would love to have him (and Vrsaljko) in our back four.

  97. Crnkovich says:

Yeah right If Slovakia slips one in they
Will bunker for their lives and we will
    Be in deep doo doo.

  98. vuki says:

Brekalo was good today, started to try too hard to create and was losing the ball a lot, but overally very good for me. Worst player today imo was Jedvaj. He constantly lost the ball, got beat in behind, and fluffed his really good chance after making a great run out of no where. I don’t think anyone was horrible, just another game like Azerbaijan where we didn’t put them away and then conceded. Yes it was a foul on Kovacic and was ridiculous, but we got a few calls to go our way too including the clear penalty call on Lovren so I’m not gonna blame the ref for the draw. For me, at CURRENT form (a lot can change in a month) my lineup for Slovakia would be:

Kramaric, Brekalo, Vlasic, Perisic, Modric, Brozovic, Barisic, Caleta-Car, Katic/Peric, Jedvaj, Livakovic

I really like Petkovic, but if Kramaric is fit, he’s our guy. He may not seem to fit all the time, but he won us the first Azerbaijan with individual brilliance and if he was up top against them the 2nd time, I definitely think that we take all 3 points. It was looking like Petkovic was going to have another great game at the beginning, but was really a non-factor after we starting to just pass around and play too comfortably. Rebic vs. Brekalo is still a toss up for me, but I think Brekalo will fit well with Kramaric as he showed he can also press as well as play decent defense. Just has more technical ability than Rebic. I’m fine with starting either of them. I don’t see Rakitic being in the Barca team by November as the ‘fans’ have turned on him so the obvious choice is Vlasic. I don’t think we should worry. Slovakia will need to win and we need to not sit back and posses the ball, we need to absolutely run over them like last time. Even without both of our CBs we SHOULD easily win the game. I would be more worried if the Slovakia game was in a few days as we haven’t had one of those terrible international breaks (would have been the first one with Azerbaijan and Hungary if we didn’t beat Azerbaijan). We’ve been pretty consistent. Good game, average game. I keep saying this, but all of these games against inferior teams are just down to how much our players want to win. Even with weak tactics a team of our quality can beat every team in the group with random moments of brilliance if they really want to put in the effort.

  99. hgjfthsydfut says:

why is croatia the only team that plays one half each game, every other team seems to understand there’s two halves to a game, but croatia always plays just for one half and that’s it, this has been going on for years and enough is enough already.

  100. Croat Canadian says:

Let’s all be honest, this was a poor result. Wales are an average team at best. Nothing special about them. I was watching the highlights. The only player that makes an impact was Bale. Besides him, maybe James but he only has speed. Above all, what do you guys expect from Croatia when it comes to qualifying matches. We never go into the last couple of matches comfortable. We always hit bumps and drop points to poor sides. Croatia did the same last qualifying for World Cup. They dropped points to Finland, Turkey twice and Iceland. Let’s just take a look at Wales. They’ll for sure beat Azerbaijan. No doubt about that. They are away but regardless, that’s a given to them. Slovakia play Azerbaijan at home. That’s a guarantee win for them. They beat Azerbaijan 5-1 away. So after those results that I think will happen. Let’s break it down

  101. Croat Canadian says:

Then let’s assume Croatia draw Slovakia which could happen, although it shouldn’t happen at home. We beat the Slovaks 4-0 away. So a draw last game gives us 15 points.

    Croatia-15 points
    Slovakia-14 points
    Hungary-12 points
    Wales-11 points

Basically, that Wales-Hungary game would determine would be get first if we drew Slovakia and all those other resulted happened. Hopefully Wales get a win which means we’ll for sure get first. Or the Wales game ends in a draw. We can’t fuck this up.

  102. vuki says:

I’m pretty sure a draw guarantees us first place because we have the head to head against Hungary since we beat them 3-0 while they only beat us 2-1.

  103. The truth says:

Well Croatia never makes it easy

I’ll run the simulation tomorrow but off the top of my head, it’s guess there is about an 85 percent chance croatia goes through

15 percent chance of missing the euros is not nothing though

I feel like I’m tiring of lovren

Essentially fouls guy in box in first half. Then gets beat in second half

    Best against Azerbaijan

Maybe it’s good he’s out next game. Although im not even sure who the back up is

  104. Anonymous says:

Vuki It wouldn’t guarantee us first because Hungary would have 5 wins and we would have 4. Wales would either have to win that last game against Hungary or draw to give us first. That would mean we take second if Hungary win.

  105. Maminjo says:

    No.

If we draw, we get first.

It doesn’t matter what your ‘win count’ is (that never gets considered).

With FIFA, it’s overall goal differential.
    With UEFA, it’s head-to-head record.

This is a UEFA tournament, so it goes by head-to-head record. We have the better head to head record against every team in this group. So if we are tied in points, we still finish ahead.

  106. Stipe says:

This reminds me of the qualifications for Euro 2000. We got lazy against Azerbaijan, we can’t tie against teams like that. Back in Euro 2000 qualifications, same thing happened. We lost against Makedonija, which put us in a bad situation. We should have beaten the crap against them. So It came down to us having to beat Jugoslavija , Srbija, Srbija and Montenegro or whatever country they felt like like calling him selves.

All we had to do was win in Maksimir against Jugoslavija. But what happened? It’s added as a tie.

My point is that we have to take advantage against the inferior teams, but we never do.

When whites ended the colonial era and blacks took over rule of black countries, they promptly deported millions of Indians and Arabs who had lived there for centuries, from before when the colonial era started.

That’s okay b/c they’re black countries but only white people founded countries for the rest of the world to move into right morons? And unlike third worlders in white countries, those Arabs and Indians actually raised the standard of living in those countries for an obvious reason.

So if you think it’s ha ha impossible that whites can’t mass deport third worlders from our countries you’re the one who’s delusional. Of course it’d be much simpler to just create one white community anywhere b/c the demand would be so great to live there the antiWhite establishment would collapse as thoroughly as the Soviet Union did.

I hate traitors, I can understand a Jew being anti-white, but white anti-whites I couldn’t punish them enough.

    vuki-Rebic vs Brekalo

    Rebic by far.

Brekalo and Kramaric will be a counter attacking disaster. We found our winning brand, and counter-attacking isn’t it.

A good press is only as strong as it’s weakest link. Brekalo didn’t recognize Rebic’s press efforts and hung back. It is a problem of recognition and effort.

    Vlasic recognized Rebic’s efforts.

Love Brekalo, but his effort level isn’t there yet. Much like Kramaric, not sure either will put forth the effort it takes to play the way we did in WC18.

  110. Poglavnik says:

Watching Portugal and our similarities are ridiculous.
Both 3rd place finishers on WC debuts.
Both have had a Ballon d’Or winner.
Both have had a handful of Madrid and Barca players.
And both always have their shaky moments in a qualifying cycle, yet get through!
And on our days both can be world beaters!

“the people who support assimilating whites out of existence”

“An example of someone who may attempt to assimilate a country’s customs is an immigrant. The definition of assimilate is to learn and comprehend.”

What you have to explain, and have failed to do so thus far, is how are they going to force the white Catholic Croatian to copulate and procreate with Black and Arab Mohammedans in Croatia.

Can you see Croatia’s future Mohammedans trying to learn and comprehend why Croats believe Mohammed is a false prophet?

You see Catholics aren’t allowed to marry Mohammedans, so in Croatia the only way the white Croats could be assimilated out of existence in their own country is if they become anti-Catholic two faced faggots (like white protestants. You do know an Apostate is a traitor?) and start copulating and procreating with Black and Arab Mohammedans.

So don’t you think it makes more sense that if you had an agenda to assimilate the white Croats out of existence in Croatia then you’d be better off bringing Black and Arab Catholics to Croatia?
There’s nothing in Catholicism that says a white Catholic can’t marry a Black or Arab Catholic.
Why do you think they’re gonna be Black and Arab Mohammedans?

“Cultures spring from religions; ultimately the vital force which maintains any culture is its philosophy, its attitude toward the universe; the decay of a religion involves the decay of the culture corresponding to it – we see that most clearly in the breakdown of Christendom today. The bad work begun at the Reformation is bearing its final fruit in the dissolution of our ancestral doctrines – the very structure of our society is dissolving.”
    – Hilaire Belloc

They say that Croats are an 88% Catholic people, if those figures aren’t being fudged then white Croats should be just fine!
