HNL Week 14

November 4, 2019

hajduk

Only three days after falling out of the Croatian Cup at the hands of HNK Gorica, Hajduk was handed an opportunity for revenge, but the Bili fell flat.

Grocia’s Kristijan Lovrić opened the scoring in the 11th minute on Saturday. Lovrić has been a thorn in Hajduk’s side as he also opened the scoring in the previous match three days earlier. And just like three days prior, Joey Suk hit the game winner in the 85th minute, however, this time around, he was sent off with his second yellow card three minutes later.

Jairo da Silva scored for Hajduk in between the Gorica goals, but it was just not enough.

Hajduk players were summoned to the stands by the large travelling contingency of Torcida after the match, who lectured them and told them they “are not Hajduk”.

The loss allowed Dinamo Zagreb, who has played one few match, extend their lead at the top to four points.

Dinamo took care of business with the minimum needed against a struggling Inter Zaprešić on Saturday. Dinamo’s goal was scored by newcomer center back Joško Gvardiol, who made his first start for Dinamo after being promoted from Dinamo II. The 17-year-old Gvardiol is a Zagreb native and made his debut for Dinamo on October 19th’s 4-2 win over Gorica where he recorded two minutes of play. This past match featured Gvardiol the entire 90 minutes.

The match also featured several other young Dinamo products including Marko Đira and Leon Šipoš, who were recently transferred from Dinamo II and Luka Ivanušec.

Rijeka and Osijek fought an entertaining match up on Sunday which ended 3-2 in favor of the home side, Osijek.

Despite a 2-0 lead at half time, Rijeka were unable to maintain their dominance in the second half. Osijek scored three unanswered goals starting in the 65th minute to take the lead and ultimately, the win.

The three points for Osijek helped them jump Rijeka in the standings.

Slaven Belupo and NK Istra 1961 played to a scoreless draw in Koprivnica on Sunday. Monday will feature a match between NK Lokomotiva and NK Varaždin which kicks off at noon eastern time.

  1. Dannyj says:

And just like that the league title race was done

Hajduk was in it longer this season it seems

I guess going for that 2nd champions league spot is a great consolation prize.

So HNL will have two champ spots and two Europa spots or is there more Europa spots?

  2. Andrej L says:

Anybody been watching this Mari Cuze kid from Istra? Heard good things at the start of the season but seems to have been figured out by opposing defences now??

  3. Maminjo says:

Is it confirmed that they get two Champions League spots?

Croatia dropped off alot in the club coefficient rankings, thanks to Hajduk falling out at the hands of that Maltese team (and Rijeka and Osijek missing Europa as well).

I think we went from 15th to 19th now.

  4. CroatiaU14 says:

@Andrej yeah Ćuže kinda took a step back. He’s had some assists lately but no goals since at least a month ago. Too bad he kinda fell off.

@maminjo yes there are two spots. If you look on some sites or soccer apps and go to the Prva Liga, there are two champions league spots and two Europa league spots.

  5. Remember Ante Paradzik says:

Have a look what Cetnik Vucic said,

“I can’t talk about (Croatian PM) Plenković, (Croatian President) Grabar-Kitarović and other normal people in Croatia, but some have a constant need and desire for Serbia to be humiliated and as weak as possible.”

Says the guy that has a desire to see Croatia humilated and as weak as possible.
Or do cetnik Vucic and the minority communist Croats have the best interests of the majority Catholic Croatian people at heart?

But, then again, what do you expect from a guy that would call someone that goes into another’s Dom aggressively, gets killed during his attack, a victim lol!

Serbs and the minority communist Croats can go to Hell for leading Croatia to ruin!
