Croatia is officially qualified for next summer’s 24-team Euro 2020 tournament. So what’s next?
Here’s a few things/dates you should know:
DRAW: The draw for Euro 2020 will take place November 30th at Noon (ET). There will be six groups of four teams chosen at the draw. However, because four additional teams will be known in March after the UEFA Nations League playoffs conclude, only 20 nations will know exactly which group they will be in heading into next summer.
SEEDING: Croatia will be locked into the second pot, meaning they will play a top European side in their group (e.g. Belgium, England, Italy) in group play. It also means Croatia will be favorites to progress out of group stage and onto the eRound of 16.
VENUES: Euro 2020 will take place in 12 cities around Europe: London, Munich, Rome, Baku, St. Petersburg, Bucharest, Amsterdam, Dublin, Bilbao, Budapest, Glasgow, Copenhagen. Every group will only be played in two cities. Here are the six two-city pairings: Rome-Baku, St. Petersburg-Copenhagen, Amsterdam-Bucharest, London-Glasgow, Bilbao-Dublin, Munich-Budapest.
For travel purposes, Croatia getting put into the group with Munich and Budapest would see tons of Croatians from Zagreb, southern Germany, Austria, and Switzerland be able to make the games with ease. I’m personally rooting for some Dublin games as Croatians and Irish get along like peanut butter & jelly.
If a host city has their nation qualify, that team will play all three go their group matches in the city. Example: England will play all three group games in London and Germany will play in Munich. You can’t get more home field advantage than that in an international tourney.
This will be Croatia’s sixth Euro tournament and fifth straight, only missing Euro 2000.
But will it be Luka Modrić’s last tournament for Croatia?
Rakitic needs to know when to fold em.
He’s like a dude that cant say goodbye to an ex. It’s over man!
Those bastards don’t respect him like they respect their Spaniards anyway.
Hey how is that palvaresa kid doing?
Is Rakitic being treated poorly ? Unless Eric Abidal is lying he said himself they told Rakitic well in advance he was going to see limited playing time. I guess Rakitic thought I’ll stick it out and fight for a spot which is proving costly. He should have left when they told him that but I could understand why any player would want to give it one last kick at a club like Barca when you’ve been living in Spain for the past so many years and won a Champions League.
Maybe Barca style is good fit
But screw going somewhere where he might get wasted
Ya Rebic…bad move for him
Good thing it was just a loan
Maybe Kovac will bring him in where ever he goes
Switzerland and even Austria’s team is Diet Yugoslavija
With his technical skills, ability to play in tight spaces, and thriving when his team has possession…
Barca actually wouldn’t be a bad fit at all.
Whitecaps need a striker.
Rangers or Celtic? Better off staying at Dinamo in my opinion.
Petkovic to a German club would be a good fit since he is more physical than the average Bundesliga defender. I could see him doing well in Spain too given his physical presence, but preferably not Barca after how they’ve treated Rakitic and even Zlatan during their time there.
I know the Scottish league is meh, but what about a top club like Rangers or Celtic to allow him to play with the most talented players in his league, while also building confidence and form against lesser talented opposition? Jelavic 2.0?
Given his current hot streak I just hope he doesn’t run into a situation like Rebic where he goes to a high-profile club that isn’t a good fit and loses his form.
You can pretty well guarantee that they will go back to traditional seeding for Euro 2024 since France is a #2 seed next summer. You know guys like Platini were pissed when Ukraine scored in the last minute to relegate the French to a #2 seed. Why do I have a feeling they draw Ukraine next week? It would be shocking if the French drew something like Belgium and Portugal.
Toronto Croatia they play Georgia tomorrow.
FIFA rankings don’t really mean anything anymore.
Ukraine just secured a top seed, despite not qualifying for the last World Cup and being ranked behind several teams in FIFA.
They should be a Pot 3 team. But they did well in the qualifying campaign, so that’s all that matters. But let’s face it, everyone knows they will be bounced early.
Euro Qualification group seeding is based on Nations League, and Euro seeding is based on Euro qualification results.
But neither is perfect I guess. FIFA constantly ranks its darling countries like Belgium and Switzerland extremely high, ensuring them a top seed at every World Cup.
well they said seeding is based on qualy performance not ranking just a few posts up ^ so it wouldnt make a difference. I admit i didnt even know we had a game, obviously qualy is the main thing but hope we win, chance for youngsters anyway.
Yeah this home team thing is ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT, totally rigged to favour the big teams, can’t believe that is the format. Like i said i assumed you dont play at home just cos it’s meant to be neutral but no no let’s be blatant with our rigging ay. SCUMBAGS.
That game tomorrow sounds silly and meaningless, but the more I think about it, an impressive performance like a major rout would boost our world rankings. Wouldn’t it. I know the Fifa rankings are a farce but some do look at that for seeding I assume. Any thoughts?

Hopefully Belgium or Ukraine in pot 1. The other teams would have home advantage on Croatia. In pot 3, would hope to avoid Denmark, they are the only team that would be home to Croatia. But it wouldn’t be the challenge of playing say Germany in Munich.
I’ll give you that Mile.
For the seeding, it is based on the records for this qualifying. Croatia will end up as the worst first place team by record out of all 10 groups if Poland beats Slovenia tomorrow.
Let’s assume Wales beats Hungary tomorrow, Germany beats or ties Northern Ireland and Netherlands beats Estonia. These will be the Euro 2020 seeds:
#1s – Italy, England, Belgium Spain, Germany and Ukraine.
#2s – France, Switzerland, Poland, Croatia, Netherlands, Russia
#3s – Portugal, Turkey, Denmark, Austria, Sweden and Czech Republic
The remaining #4 seeds will be Wales, Finland and a mish mash of the playoffs teams. Who knows who will make from the playoffs, since it is more complex playoff format.
Poglavnik, yes probably a penalty. But if it was the other way around, there is zero chance that Mexico would be given the penalty. No chance.
Any match played in Germany is a great thing for us. About as close to a home game as we’ll probably ever get in a major tourney.

What a freakin joke. Euro could have had 12 teams with home field advantage!?
Gonna screw over some non-hosting teams:
1)Playing 2 away games
2)Then hoping for a good result from a pot 4 away team, against an average team like Hungary.
Euro 2024 being hosted by Germany, so they will have home field advantage AGAIN.
Friendlies are great… But not against teams like Georgia.
Would be nice to play a friendly against a team that can help us prep for the Euros (and also a team that won’t injure our players with clumsy play).
Isn’t Croatia playing a friendly tomorrow? Not sure why
@Mile
Just watched the U17 final and VAR got that right. Moron Mexican sliding through that player in the box is a penalty. Whether you like it or not.
little petkovic/barcelona story

And guys how do we get tickets for euro?
I just signed up and they asked for all info and then the team I like
What other ways are there? Scalpers? Or does that method not work cause of ID and stuff?
Just like to get all the info I can as I need one game at least to get to!
Petkovic could prob produce in Barca
But fuck that
I agree mid German team
Maybe back to Italy?
He has got to be worth a few bucks now
He helps get Dinamo to round of 16 and Mamic gets a few million more euros to sleep on
Italy looks rejuvenated that’s for sure
Never mind this game but in general
Ya I thought we would be top seed
Is it something to do with world rankings?
Does it really matter tho
First or second group
Those teams are not looking to be paired with us as we may not be with one of them
Anyone know why they are in the second pot for group seading? I figured if they won their qualifying group, they would be in the first pot and able to avoid teams like England or Spain. Thanks
geez italy 9-1 armenia and not even done
Just let petkovic go to a mid level German squad
latest rumour is that Barca are eyeing Bruno Petkovic!
Haha the Swiss playing in Gibraltar in a must win game. UEFA gets a French ref to call the game, just in case.

Ya Dinamo should nurse this kid
They gonna make a ton of money this year
Unless it’s like a Coric situation and they think to cash in cause maybe they see something others don’t
How do we get on early for tickets??
I’ve said I’m going or die trying to see the boys live
And in all likelihood this will be Lukas last tourney
And if not
Who the heck is gonna go to Qatar anyway
Is Gvardiol that highly rated that a top Serie A club would be willing to start him at age 18?
I’m afraid of another Jedvaj situation with Roma.
Jedvaj had all the tools and was super hyped… Roma also bought him very young, and he spent at least a year glued to the bench.
Iggy, what do you expect from UEFA? This is from the Euro 2016 bid controversy on the Wikipedia page:
There was controversy concerning the decision to give the Euro 2016 to France and not to Turkey. After the decision was announced, responding to the question “During Sepp Blatter’s term, Euro 2008 was awarded to Switzerland, during your term Euro 2016 is awarded to France, is this the new trend?” Platini said “When there is a Turkish president, then you can host a major tournament”.
Guus Hiddink was also highly critical of the decision, stating: “This proves once again that in top-flight football the game is run by politics”, and “UEFA gave the Euro 2016 finals to France, who have already had the tournament twice and they also had the World Cup finals in 1998. This does not feel right. I get the feeling that the actual bid was about other things. Otherwise the choice for France as hosting nation, the country of UEFA president Michel Platini, cannot be explained”.
Another highly controversial remark came from the French national player Marc Planus: “We learned that last night (Thursday night). We’re really excited, it will boost the French football”. The bidding and the decision process took place on Friday, one day after the French player suggested that “they have already known”.
Before the bidding process, Michel Platini introduced the French president Nicolas Sarkozy to every member of the decision committee in person, while he did not do the same for the Turkish president Abdullah Gül. After the decision Platini concluded:
“I think the fact that the president of the Republic was here was important. I think it was good he decided to come. If he hadn’t come, Turkey would almost certainly have won”.
“I’m happy because France has won, and I’m French — let’s not forget it”.
Also, I don’t see him being on the main national team before Euro 2020, even if he is a consistent starter for Roma. Mainly because Lovren and Vida basically have those starting spots locked down and the main team seems to like to call up players who are too old for U21s so that the U21s can have them for their games. However, we do tend to take 1 or 2 talents that Dinamo is usually trying to get some money for. *See Ante Coric Euro 2016* But recently, Dinamo hasn’t been letting go of their talents after 1 good season. Anyway, maybe Gvardiol makes the 23-man roster if he is a regular starter for a club by that point, but I don’t see him getting minutes even if I do think he has the potential to be our best CB in years.
Eh, I’d still rather see him just be a starter at Dinamo for the 2nd half of the season hopefully (because I think Theodophile is bad). And then all of next season as they will likely qualify for the CL again. I could see Petkovic, Orsic, Olmo, Livakovic, and maybe Peric all being sold after this season. It’s not a problem though because Dinamo already has the likes of Kulenovic, Baturina, and Sipos to replace Petkovic. They aren’t the finished product yet obviously, but I think they will be ready to play by next season. Antonio Marin to replace Orsic. Luka Ivanusec and Lovro Majer are already ready to replace Olmo plus even younger guys like Tomislav Krizmanic and Edin Julardzija. Dinko Horkas and Renato Josipovic for Livakovic. And then Josko Gvardiol for Peric.
I just don’t think any of them should leave until they find a team that they know they are going to be a consistent starter. I did just look at Roma and saw that they only have 4 first team CBs right now and 2 of them are on loan, Chris Smalling and Gianluca Mancini. Although I know for a fact they are trying to make Smalling permanent. Mancini had a good season with Atalanta last season so I’m assuming they have an option to buy. Although I just saw he is currently injured so who knows. The other two are Juan Jesus like you mentioned and Federico Fazio who I know has been Roma’s best CB for a few seasons. Whether he still is, I don’t know for sure. If I was Gvardiol I would see that yes their CBs aren’t great right now and I might have an opportunity, but who is to say that they won’t just buy another 2 established ones? I’m just not moving to a bigger team unless I get some guarantees. Maybe try to get something like a release clause if you don’t make a certain amount of starts?
Vuki and not Vicky : not my fault. My computer’s faut.
Vicky wrote about Gvardiol. Roma is considering him. Probably a bad move.
But they’re also talking about kickstart him as a first-team player. If they do this and it works out, the guy will surely play at Euro 2020 for us.
According to Il Messaggero, AS Roma management, while planning to get rid of Brazilian centre-back/left-back Juan Jesus (28), are willing to replace him with Croatian U21 international centre-back Josko Gvardiol (18), and kickstart him as a first-team player. The former is currently on a deal with Giallorossi until June 2021.
“Croatia will be locked into the second pot, meaning they will play a top European side in their group (e.g. Belgium, England, Italy) in group play”
Ukraine is in pot 1 so they might avoid a top European side
Basically UEFA already stacking things in favour of the big cuntries, as though the cunts dont get enough breaks as it is between VAR and refereeing calls etc. Bloody BULLSHIT mate.
WTF so the teams who qualify automatically get to play all their games at home? that’s fucking DOGSHIT.
I assumed they would NOT be playing at home cos it’s way too big an advantage, fucking load of utter garbage that is.
What we missed Euro 2020, yebi
