In a La Liga twist of events, it looks as if both superstar Croatians could be leaving their respective clubs this summer.
2018 Ballon d’Or winner, Luka Modrić, is being wooed by David Beckham and Inter Miami – MLS’ newest club in 2020. Bleacher Report has reported that Miami is offering to double Modrić’s contract if he comes across the pond. Modrić has stated that he would like to fulfill his current Real Madrid contract for this season. Although Modrić has four Champions League titles in the Spanish capital, he has only won La Liga once with the club. Real Madrid currently hold a 3-point advantage on rivals Barcelona atop the Spanish table with 16 matches remaining in the season. It would be a nice ending to Modrić’s career at Real Madrid to win the league again – and at 34 years old – the next four months will surely be his last in Spain.
Modrić still has enough gas in the tank to lead Croatia through a successful Euro 2020 campaign and stay in Europe next season. Moving to Italy and playing in Serie A next season for AC Milan or Inter Milan would be a nice fit.
Chances Modrić goes to Inter Miami: 20%
Then there’s Ivan Rakitić and his endless yo-yo battle with Barcelona management this season. Rakitić has only been a model citizen at Barca but has been disrespected in recent months; and the pot is finally beginning to over flow. Lionel Messi is starting to feel the same, ESPN reports.
Daily Mail is reporting that Atletico Madrid will make Rakitić a priority of theirs this summer in the transfer window. With a clean slate, Raketa could add tons of value to AtletiCRO alongside compatriot Šime Vrsaljko. It would be a great move for Rakitić entering the twilight of his playing career.
But at the end of the day, both Modrić and Rakitić have fulfilled their Croatian prophecies. Both led the Vatreni to the World Cup Final and anything else they do in their careers should be considered a SUPER BONUS. Modrić played a perfect tournament while Rakitić netted two final penalty kicks to move Croatia to the next round. Ice in the veins!
Chances Rakitić goes to Atletico Madrid: 80%
As I understand it Modrić makes 10 million at Real after taxes so 20 million before US taxes works out too about the same.
Phuck Bayern hope Kovacic rocks a banger and knocks them out
Beckham is offering Modric double what he makes at Real… doesn’t make anything certain but surely its more than 20% likely
Alvaro Odriozola fractures Perisic in TRAINING. Something fishy going on. Some guy in mgmt randomly complains about high performing Perisic, then this. Sure some lame winger and his agent are super happy this occurred.
Perisic fractured his ankle.
Is that team REALLY called Inter Miami?
Oh man, that’s almost as funny as Dinamo Houston and Real Salt Lake.
Hajduk Vegas is next.
