Football is back! And the dates are set!
No thanks to the current COVID-19 pandemic, European football will return in June after a three-month postponement. The German Bundesliga restarted two weekends ago and the other three European power leagues are right behind them.
- English Premier League: June 17th
- Spanish La Liga: June 11th (tentative)
- Italian Serie A: June 20th
So what should you keep on your radar as these leagues play in empty stadiums?
Bayern Munich all but locked up a 2020 Bundesliga title with a victory over second place Borussia Dortmund this week. Bayern have a 7-point lead with only six matches remaining. In England, Liverpool only need two wins to wrap up their first English Premiership crown. Chelsea and Manchester United will battle it out for the last Champions League berth with a 3-point gap between the two sides.
In La Liga, Barcelona hold a 2-point advantage on Real Madrid with 11 matches remaining in the season. This will be the best race down the stretch amongst the top-four leagues. In Italy, Juventus only hold a 1-point lead on Lazio with 12 matches remaining. Atalanta and Roma will fight for the last Champions League berth.
Liverpool being crowned English champions in an empty Anfield will be the most bittersweet sports story during the summer of COVID.
Welcome back everybody!
