Croatia vs. England IV: Today Was The Day

June 14, 2020

maxresdefault

June 14th, 2020.

Today was the day Croatia would play England at Wembley Stadium in London in the opening match of their EURO 2020 group stage. Obviously, due to COVID, the entire EURO 2020 tournament has been pushed to the summer of 2021.

That means Luka Modrić will be a year older. So will Ivan Rakitić. Ivan Perišić. The list goes on. However, if Croatia’s veteran players can stay sharp and healthy, the likes of Josip Brekalo, Nikola Vlašić and Marin Pongračić will also have another season under their belts.

This match would have marked the fourth time in past two years that Croatia and England would have clashed.

2018 World Cup semifinal: Croatia wins 2-1 in extra time

October 2018 UEFA Nations League: 0-0 draw in Rijeka

November 2018 UEFA Nations League: England wins 2-1 in London

At the end of the day, the Nations League games mean little to nothing and we can scratch those matches from our collective memories. But how would the EURO 2020 rematch play out?

Croatia wins 2-1 to dissappoint the English supporters…once again.

  1. Stipe says:

It is what it is. We gotta wait another year. We get older and England gets older but with more experience. England had the second youngest team in the World Cup. The fist was Nigeria.

We knock out England in qualifications for Euro 2008.

What are the chances was for us to be in same group for World Cup qualifying. They whooped us.

We beat them in the semi finals WC 2018.

Now we are in the same group for the Euros. I don’t believe in coincidences, English are looking for retribution. The English FA can’t lose to Croatia. Those cocky motherfuckers

  2. Maminjo says:

Yea we have a nice rivalry with them.

We have transcended into elite territory, where our rivalries are against other elite teams (France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Argentina, England, etc.).

England got the better of us at the recent Nations League, but let’s face it…the loss at the World Cup semifinals tops any one of the Croatia or England victories against one another. They’ll have to beat us several more times to get over that one.

Btw, It’s kinda nice having a winning record against the elites.

Somebody ask negro Marcelo why his kind pack themselves like sardines on rickety ships to get into white countries? They risk their lives to be oppressed by the white man, right?

They’d rather be DEAD than live a country produced by their own people.

So help me God these TWO FACED RATS who support putting me in prison because they can’t refute the truth. People who tell the truth can be VIOLENT too you know!
I’m telling the truth, why would I shut up?
I’m telling the truth, why would I back down?

  4. Razbijač says:

Modric rolled back the years today with an exceptional performance, especially in the 1st half.

Given his game is based on skill and intelligence, there’s no reason he can’t play till 40. Good to have his experience in the next two tournaments.

Yeah great to see Croatia with some big rivalries in football!

What do you guys think of the 5 substitutions rule, should they keep it? I think they should.

  5. Maminjo says:

The 5 sub rule will benefit our National Team due to our depth.

It will also allow for teams (especially those who press a lot) to continue the level of intensity throughout the game.

Talented teams that have a weak bench will suffer though.

For example, a team like Bosna (who has a decent starting unit, but horrible bench) would be worse off with this rule.

Not sure if any of the top teams would really be affected.

Maybe Uruguay or Colombia, but for the most part, the top-10 teams are all pretty deep with talent.

  6. The truth says:

ahh i sure would’ve liked to be at wembley today.. i ha d planned the trip… oh well

i wanted to touch on perisic real quick from the other thread… i also found myself being quite frustrated by him constantly being subbed out early

that being said, i think one of the main tactical strokes of genius dalic had, was to use his high work rate wingers and run them to the ground

you saw both rebic and perisic consistently covering an iincredible amount of ground as they were asked not only to obviously participate in the offense but also to drop back incredibly deep on defense

where croatia’s defensive formation was frequently enduping up looking like a 1-2-3-4 …..or in it’s super defensive posture…a 1 -5- 4 .. .. but mainly you had perisic and rebic coming back so deep drawing parallel with brozovic arguably providing an additional shield in front of the defense.. modric and raktiic came back to , but were acutally able to stay a bit mroe forward pressed as outlets, particulary playing off mandzukic as a target

the tactic was very successful…but incredibly demanding on the wings…so to that extent…it doesn’t shock me to have seen dalic consistently sub his wingers out

fivethirtyeight recently had an interest article advocating for more subs….saying how subs score at a significantly higher rate tha tnhe players in the game

on the surface…i’d be curious to see a couple more controls in this analysis…are they including all players goal per minute average vs that of subs ? because subs are usually more offensive players… but an interesting take none the less

@”anonymous” of 5:32pm said in plain English “Truth is HERESY!”

“racist” is this generation’s word for heresy.

And I guarantee you that “anonymous” of 5:32pm thinks he’s a Modern Sophisticate and a Good Honest catholic. When antiWhites can’t refute the truth, they just say the truth is “racist”.

  8. Anonymous says:

@”poglavnik” antiWhites don’t care what nationality or religion you belong to, if you are White you are guilty and must atone by giving your countries to third worlders. So you continue being a good little goy and spend your time fighting phantom chetniks.

  9. Anonymous says:

@Stipe said “I come here to not think about politics”.

But you have no problem w/ marcello “kneeling for floyd” during a game, right? You have no problem with players being FORCED to toe the party line by having to wear “black lives matter” tee shirts, right? You have no problem with clowns on this site talking about 100 year old chetniks, right?

  10. Anonymous says:

“phantom anti whites”? You’ve never heard of a place being “too white” and forced to become “diverse”? That’s my imagination, right?

  11. Anonymous says:

A Hispanic Police Chief in California joined the rioters and screamed “our people built this country”, which is SILLY b/c if Hispanics could build a country like the U.S. they wouldn’t risk their lives to escape their own countries to get into the US in the first place.

He wasn’t talking about Puerto Ricans or Mexicans, he was talking about ALL Hispanics. The enemy is at the gate, the Ottomans are at the gate of Vienna and the likes of “poglavnik” are talking shit about other White nationalities. Nobody is asking you to LIKE Serbians – that’s irrelevant.

When an enemy is coming at you and the guy beside you says “why should I care?” You do not debate him, you SHOOT him.

  12. I served my time in jail and now I am a changed man. Any donation would be appreciated by any true Croat here to help a fellow Croat in need. I’m helping children in DR with supplies for schools. My goal is $3,000. Please help and god will be good back to you. Pozdrav svima iz NJ
