Kovačić sees red in the FA Cup Final

Mateo Kovačić was sent off in the FA Cup Final Saturday after an extremely soft second yellow card booking in the 73rd minute. Already being booked in the first half, Kovačić made contact with Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka and was wrongfully booked. You can clearly see that Kovačić plants his right foot first and Xhaka actually steps on him. Arsenal was up 2-1 at that time and held on for the FA Cup trophy over their London rivals. LINK TO FOUL

It’s confusing to me how in a world of VAR, yellow cards can’t be reviewed. It took all the wind out of Chelsea’s sails and handed Arsenal the game and FA Cup. It will be a disappointing day for Kovačić who has been a fan favorite at Chelsea in 2020. He will get a chance at redemption August 8th when Chelsea face Bayern Munich in the Champions League Round of 16, already down 3-0 from the first leg.

Marcelo Brozović played the full 90 minutes in Inter Milan’s 2-0 win over Atalanta in Italy’s last game of the season. The win means Inter Milan finish second in Serie A and will be placed in the Champions League Pot 3 or 4 for group play; unless they win Europa League. Mario Pašalić played 61 minutes for Atalanta in the loss. Nikola Kalinić scored a goal for Roma in their finale 3-1 win over Juventus.

Would be such a dream come true for Mateo if he scores the winner in a FA Cup final

    That would be tops

    Fingers crossed

  2. Soul Champ says:

Kovačić Saturday is a much watch.

He is major component to the winning game plan for Chelsea.

If he plays well they win.

If he plays great they dominate.

These cup finals are what build the elite confidence.

I pray he at least looks at t he goal in the final third.

No one expects him to score so the shot is always on for him.

Atalanta and Inter will be a battle.

Curious to see if Pašalić can hang in matches on this level?

Brozovic is due for worldly goal.

    Rebić available for Cagliari ?

I thought he was on yellow card suspension?

He has to now realize that defenders see that temper as a weakness to exploit.

He needs to jog away and bum rush past the defender on the next play.

  3. ARMADA87 says:

Croatian Cup final tomorrow. Anyone? Bueller?

  4. Maminjo says:

When is the follow up piece of Owen Marecic coming (remember him)?

Dude is apparently going to be an MD now. Tells the 49ers he no longer wants to play in the NFL, and ended up going to med school instead.

  5. Maminjo says:

I didn’t know who this Kris Bubic was, and his dad is actually a boater from Croatia who lives in Miami lol. Mom’s Croatian too. Hopefully he plays for our National Baseball Team. 😉

  6. Anonymous says:

I think brozovic is on a bender, possibly losing control down a ski slope 😉

  7. BZ says:

Brozovic, come on buddy. Why are you drinking and driving?

That said, a competing player’s agent could easily have set him up. It has been suspected before.

Guy has a few drinks with teammates.
    Slightly over the limit.
Some benchwarmers agent calls police when they know Brozovic is getting in car.
Big money on the line in soccer, many players have been targeted by slimy agents. I’d probably do it too, if I knew I could make a few million to donate to a pediatric charity.

  8. Croatian Canadian says:

I keep on saying, get rid of these guys that are mediocre and not team players. Dalic better start Vlasic, Kova, Pasalic in mid for Euros. Keep the guys that are has beens like Rakitic, Brozovic, Lovren all on the bench. Sick and tired of hearing “BrINg BAck CorLuka, MaNdzukIc, and others. We have fucking youth that are dominating in top leagues and having good seasons. Only bet as of now that deserves to start is Luka.

  9. Croatian Canadian says:

  10. Jure F. says:

Brozo is 27 and starts for a top team week in week out.

  11. Penaldo says:

Kepa sucks. I can play stop more.

    AC Milan’s defense also sucks.

  12. Maminjo says:

Pašalić may be doing well at Atalanta, but no way can he start ahead of Modrić, Brozović, Vlašić, Rakitić or Kovačić.

Poor guy lol. He’s never gonna start.

  13. Suba says:

Pasalic even when Modric and raketa retires would still be on the fringes

You would throw him in the last 15 minutes of a game if croatia was chasing a game

Other than that he’s unfortunately surplus to requirements

  14. Maminjo says:

Well, maybe after Modrić and Rakitić retire… And if Brozović gets tossed in prison for his 10th DUI… Then we’ll see Pašalić crack our lineup.

  15. Maminjo says:

But I think that a younger player will catch up to him and surpass him before he gets to start.

Someone like Palaversa or maybe Moro or something.

  16. BZ says:

Bring back Corluka! (said no one since his achilles injury.)

    but for arguments sake…
I’d bring back Corluka way before I start Kovacic and Pasalic over any combination of Modric, Brozovic, and Rakitic.

  17. Anonymous says:

Very talented player Pasalic. The only thing that frustates me about him is he is getting by on talent alone.

  18. Soul Champ says:

Pašalić actually looks like the most fit I have ever seen him.

Atalanta are a high octane team and he is benefiting from that system.

His size and skill are an asset, but as pointed out you need to be world class to be a lock in our starting midfield and some where near that to be really considered.

    All eyes on Kovačić today.

Can he bring an extra quality to a cup final?

Arsenal will not be game planning to stop him in the final third.

Please take the shot when the defense plays off of you for the pass.

His game too telegraphed in the final third.

This is the area where you have to not worry about losing the ball and simply attack the goal.

He has shown glimpses over the years.

  19. The truth says:

The key To the Nts success in the euros will be not making the mistake of starting rakitic

People scoffed at me before Euro qualifiers when i has said it was time to pick between modric and rakitic cause you can’t have two old pairs of legs in the midfield

The choice was always clear in modric but made easier to execute by rakitic never really showing up to play

I was proved correct when vlasic was inserted and proved vital to Croatia qualifying

Kovacic has stepped up to a new level but so far vlasic seems to provide more needed bite… if it was modric and kovacic in the midfield they might just pass the ball back and forth to each and never move forward

One under appreciated thing about kovacic this season though is his defense has gone up a notch

Some calling him corona cause he’s putting players in lockdown

And playing a key strategic role in disrupting the Other teams main midfield engine

  20. Soul Champ says:

Kovačić keeps Modrić as effective as possible.

His dynamic speed and ability to track back allows Modrić to move forward like he has been doing for Real Modrić.

Brozovic is too slow and similar to an aging Modrić.

Rakitic comes in for Modrić to settle things down for a nice tidy win and keeping Luka fresh for the next round.

Older legs can play great in a one off match.

It is the grueling intensity of a deep finals run that get the legs.

I’ll take 70 minutes of Modrić any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Rakitic is our best better penalty taker if need be.

He is the best midfield sub in a match that either needs his settling presence or long range passing and shot skills.

Mandžukić starts lighting up Serie A next season as #9 and you don’t consider him?

Surrounded by Vlašić, Rebić, Perišić maybe Brekalo, he would get chances galore to finish.

You can start him for 60 minutes or you can bring him on for 30.

Either way you get beast mode.

  21. Poglavnik says:

    Kovacic is balls!
    Invisible as usual.
Pulisicks done more in 6 months than Kovacic has done in 6 years. Hes nothing more than a technically sound pawn that puts zero stamp on a game.

  22. Poglavnik says:

    Fuck Chelski!

  23. Crnkovic says:

343 doesn’t suit kovacic. Too much space to cover, he is better in our 4231

  24. Soul Champ says:

    What is worse?

That non foul second yellow or playing along side Jorginho?

I am going with playing with Jorginho.

Kovačić will have all the support around him with Croatia.

    Naprijed ..

  25. Poglavnik says:

He doesnt fit any midfield role.
Too soft to be a good #6 and not enough creativity to match his on the ball skills to be a good #8 or #10. Hes got quality but it doesnt translate.
He was hard done by those 2 yellows but that being said you need to be in control and not lunging and sliding all over the place.

  26. Anonymous says:

Croatians have held roughly the same territory for 1,400 years for our own gene pool (basically some combination of Aryan-Persians, Ukrainians, Germanic-Ostrogoths & Romans) but “Crnkovic” is the one who’s going to change that, he’s the one, the special one, he’s the “anti-racist” who’s going to bring in negros, mestizos, indians & other diversities and teach them “croatian folk dance” and shit. Oh man!, oh man! the PUNISHMENT you antiWhite TRAITORS DESERVE.

  27. Anonymous says:

I can’t stand the new 24 team watered down field and especially the cheap 3 out of 4 group teams making it into the knockout stage.

I think the European Championships should be 20 teams, 4 groups of 5 teams. Top 2 teams in each group go to final 8. This equates to about the same amount of games played in the tournament as the current 24 team field fiasco.

Imagine if in the movie ‘The Hunger Games’ the establishment media not only televised every rebel protest, but actually cheered them on! You’d say this movie is retarded.

Yet, the BLM crowd actually believe the media that they are True Revolutionaries! Fucking MORON antiWhite establishment toadies.

  29. Anonymous says:

The BLM crowd definitely has that in common with the hippies – fake revolutionary/establishment toadies; except this ain’t the 60’s and in the REAL world a multiracial state doesn’t have a class war like in a hollywood movie, in the REAL world, a multiracial state has a RACE WAR.

Notice how no latinos, nor asians, nor muslims have joined in the BLM rioting? Just blacks and a minority of white traitors – these same traitors would join any of the aforementioned groups if they are rioting against whites.

  30. Poglavnik says:

    Damn those evil hippies!

  31. Croatian Canadian says:

Definitely a poor performance this week for our boys
-Chelsea loss and Kova got red carded. Now he’s suspended for the Bayern fixture
-Brozovic yellow carded but looked decent
-Rebic out cause of red card
    -Pasalic was invisible today.

Oh well, at least champions league is soon and nations lest be starts in a month.

  32. Soul Champ says:

    @ Poglavnik

Your Kovačić evaluation is valid from the perspective of what he is not?

    I actually think he is a #8.

He created some nice movements throughout the match.

That phantom foul becoming a second yellow/red was BS.

Jorginho is tough to play with as he is redundant and weak.

Giroud just posts up now and again, zero movement.

Kovačić was his average today and missed an opportunity to be a field Marshall. He was surrounded by arsenal players all match as Jorginho was playing patty cake.

The level we are talking about is world class and that as we have learned is not easy.

Curious to see Kovačić with Chelsea next season with their upgrades in tow.

Again for us he just needs to be a #8 or 6?

  33. ARMADA87 says:

  34. Maminjo says:

Glad to see Kovačić step up huge this season and take a nice step forward

It really says a lot about our NT midfield quality that the star player on Chelsea can’t seem to crack the rotation, lol.

I expect him to continue to progress, and finally start for the National Team.

  37. BZ says:

Wow, watched the Chelsea game just to see why so many think Kovacic should start for us.

Boy do I feel vindicated for saying Kovacic and Pasalic shouldn’t start over Modric, Brozo, Vlasic, or Rakitic.

    I know he is talented.
I know he is World Class, but even the worst talent scouts can see he just doesn’t mesh with our NT’s style of play. I’ll give it more thought and analysis next time he plays for us. Right now I think it comes dow to this:
He isn’t talented enough in either end of the field to have added value. He can’t be our cdm nor our 8 or 10. He might be our best dribbler, but that doesn’t do much for us.

That said, what a great luxury to have a guy like him on
    our bench.

  38. Maminjo says:

Kovačić and Pašalić have never played well for us.

Both have been completely timid and invisible on the field, and the few offensive chances they’ve ever had for us, they did very poorly. Kovačić missed a sitter in front of the net against Nigeria, and took a terrible penalty against Russia during the shootout. Pašalić also missed a sitter too (I believe during Qualifying) when he last played minutes for us.

Kovačić has been frustrating for us for many years now, and although it’s a smaller sample for Pašalić… he’s done absolutely nothing in the 10-15 games he’s come off the bench for us when called up.

Guys like Vlašić or Brekalo have done more in their first 3 or 4 callups than either of these guys have done in all their games combined.

However, Kovačić and Pašalić are still young and they play well on their club teams so I’m hopeful they can add value for us.

The good news is that we don’t have to wait for them. We have plenty of options and if they never do play well for us, then we will insert someone else.

  39. Canuckcro says:
JUST to get away from the political commen’ts..above ,here’s a heart warming story about legendary Drazen petrovics.nets jersey.

  40. Poglavnik says:

Kovacic’s press resistance is impressive. Too often it doesnt end with a great ball though. He needs to shoot more too.
He’s growing but I dont know if he’ll ever be someone we need in the starting 11.

  41. Suba says:

Well Brozovic should join juve so he can keep up his drinking habit

  42. Soul Champ says:

Kovačić gets fouled and stepped on.

Then he gets a SECOND yellow and is sent off?

And the narrative is Kovačić is not good enough.

Kovačić was his average on Saturday.

And there were 3-4 players directly around him who were trash that day.

Absolutely BS performances by the above players that directly make the game even more challenging to create for Kovačić.

Pašalić should not be mentioned in the same breath as Kovačić.

Also two Chelsea players tear hamstrings ?

Arsenal players running around no problem?

Were Chelsea over trained this past week?

Kante has hamstring issues for months?

Tapering makes a difference at the highest level.

With all those matches you need to allow the body to rest and do your best.

Kovačić has been excellent this year.

Does he hunger to become elite?

    We’ll see.

  43. Suba says:

    Chelsea is a shit club

Kova is wasting his talents there

  44. gbvh says:

    that was some bullshit

  45. Eric says:

I think Mateo will do well next season. Chelsea are looking to spend some money to bring in talent. They are rebuilding, and it seems that Kovacic has the confidence of Lampard, and is a key part of the future for this club.

@Pro white guy loves the nationalist cetniks and their celebrating the killing of white Croats in Srb annually, a celebration allowed by Croatia’s government. Could what happens in Srb be considered as a celebration of white genocide? I ask you because you’re the race expert.

  53. The Real Deal says:
