“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.” -Oscar Wilde
There are few things in sports that are sacred. Things that should only belong to one club or one country.
The pin stripes belong to baseball’s New York Yankees. The parquet floor should only be played on by the Boston Celtics. The Haka can only be performed by New Zealand’s All Blacks in rugby.
Croatia’s famous red and white checkered kit has been copied. And I hate that it happened. (Even though it really didn’t make much news)
Israeli football club Hapoel Beer Sheva played in identical Croatian checkered kits two months ago (sorry, I know I’m late to the party on this one) and won the State Cup Final in them, SportsRabbi reports.
The Vatreni took the world by storm in 2018 when they marched to the World Cup Final, where they played France in the famous red and white checkered tops. However, the world has known about Croatia’s famous kits since 1998 and it has been a staple of Croatian people’s heritage and culture since.
Sure, the Italians have their Azzurri blue and the Dutch have their famous Oranje, but the red and white checkered shirts of Croatia are one-of-a-kind and should never be copied, especially by the 27th best football league in UEFA.
We’ve all been out in the world in our Croatian tops where a complete stranger comes up to us and goes, “Are you Croatian? Great team! Great football! Beautiful country!” Something along those lines. You can spot it from a mile away and there’s definitely a charm to this famous kit that should never be imitated, especially by non-Croatians.
The Yankees have their stripes. The Celtics have their parquet floor. The Kiwis have their Haka. And Croatians have the red and white checkers.
Thank you for the flattery, but we’re good.
Great vid Elvis
They were true Croatian heroes
We shall never forget

Yea, it is Dalic’s job to get the maximum out of his players.
He figured it out for the World Cup, and his pressing style worked perfectly.
However, Mandzukic is no longer on the team and we have a more technically gifted (but less physical) striker in Kramaric who has a different skillset.
Many of us were debating whether or not Krama should be starting, but we’ve never tried any other formations than the 4-3-2-1 that we’ve been using since the World Cup…and we can’t ignore how well this guy has been scoring for his club the past year. Plus, we’re not the ones making a million bucks a year to figure this out.
I like both Krama and Petkovic, but we really need to try out different formations to see what a full potential Krama can provide to us. We can always fall back on our regular formation, with Bruno up top (which seems to work too).
I think we may see a formation change for the Switzerland match. Probably gonna do a lot less out-of-position experimenting from here on out, and just stick with our most capable players (with the odd newcomer here and there).
If krama is not being used to his full potential is it not then on Dalic
Krama seems to make that inference here
If krama is not being utilised to his full potential is that not on Dalic then
Krama is making that inference here
More importantly, I just noticed that Kramaric gave an interview to HRT after his game against Bayern, and he said that he hopes to play the same role on the National Team as he successfully does at his club.
He didn’t get into specifics, but hopefully Dalic is trying to figure something out.
“- Hoffenheim i reprezentacija su drugačije, i drugačija je moja uloga, moja pozicija na terenu. Sigurno da bih volio da i u reprezentaciji igram poziciju koju igram u klubu, sigurno da bih tako i ja puno više dao i pomogao reprezentaciji, zaključio je napadač Hoffenheima.”
Nah. Taken out of context. He just gave an interview to HRT and said this:
Pitali smo ga bi li se vratio da ga Dalić ponovno zatreba za pucanje presudnog jedanesterca.
– Uvijek želim ostaviti vrata otvorena. U bilo kojem slučaju, ne daj Bože. Moja reprezentacija, moji Vatreni i izbornik i cijela Hrvatska mogu računati na mene. Za minute i penale – uvijek spreman za moju Hrvatsku.
Why isn’t Mandzo back then
This is an international outrage!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rakitic is back on the repka. this guy can never make up his mind.
Liverpoop’s third kits this year look like Croatia’s aways.
Ergh.
Ante Palaversa made his first La Liga appearance a bit ago, came in late for Getafe.
Sorry, I meant Moravia.
I get Bohemia and Moravia mixed up.
The only club or country that has the right to red checkers are Czech’s Bohemia region.
Their flag is a red and white checkered eagle.
It’s the sole reason I am against their independence movement.
Let’s face it the Israelis love affair with Croatia had already begun with Giovanni Rosso
Boa Vista is exempted although their checkers are in purple or something like this
There was some German club in the 90s i think that had the same outfit too, i saw them looking at some classic bundesliga goals of one of the current coaches (klopp or someone, can’t remember) on YouTube a lil while ago. But yeah this is a blatant rip off.
Also, i seem to remember after ’98 – was it Bahrain who flat out copied us too, and that’s an international team so even worse.
“it has been a staple of Croatian people’s heritage and culture since.”
Is this what they call cultural appropriation? I feel like a victim.
Can we peacefully protest?
I need a new big screen tv to watch the upcoming Nations League games.
Is Boavista FGC exempt?
They have the Hercegovacki grb 😉
