Mladi Vatreni Backdoor Qualify To U-21 EURO 2021

November 18, 2020

With all attention on Croatia vs. Portugal on Tuesday, the U-21 qualification to EURO 2021 next year was overshadowed. It’s great to see such a talented group of Croatian young guns qualify for the tournament, but it’s how they qualified is what we should be talking about.

The Mladi Vatreni did not control their own destiny starting the day Tuesday and not only needed to blow out Lithuania to make up goal differential, but needed other results to go their way as well. With Czech Republic already topping the group, Croatia could only qualify as one of the best five second-placed teams in qualifying. If Scotland beat Greece, the Scots would top Croatia and that would be the end of the story. Instead, Scotland lost 1-0 to Greece, Croatia made up tons of goal differential by crushing Lithuania 7-0 in Pula, and Bosnia beat Belgium 3-2; who would have leap frogged the Vatreni with a win.

Everything wen’t Croatia’s way now and we will now see the U-21’s play in the 16-team EURO 2021 tournament next year. The group stage will take place in March while the knockouts rounds will be played May 31st-June 6th. Croatia has never made it out of group stage at the U-21 EUROs.

This team is packed with potential senior-level talent.

Joško Gvardiol, Boško Šutalo, Nikola Moro, and Petar Musa are all players we should have our eyes on moving forward. Obviously their stock will only rise with a good showing at next year’s tournament. Because of the scheduling in 2021, any of these players could even join the senior side at EURO 2021 in June. It will be another interesting year with the condensed schedule, but they got the job done (with a little help) to qualify.

Hahahahaha…so many good memes of him covering Ronaldo

  3. Suba says:

Congratulations to the young Vatreni qualifying

    Wish them all the best

Hopefully Moro and Majer will shine

  4. BEĆAR says:

You forgot to mention that they pounded Lithuania with a huge COVID outbreak happening. 7 players, including key ones like Gvardiol and Majer didn’t even play.

  5. Maminjo says:

    I don’t care about U21 success.
Serbia won the U20 World Cup in 2015, and look where it got them. Two missed tournaments (out of three) and coiuldn’t even get out of the first round in an easy group (in the one tournament they made).

Since we chose the experimentation route for these UNL games, we should have experimented with some of these U21 players.

Luckily we DID experiment with one U21 player (Domagoj Bradaric) who is likely to win a starting spot at these Euros as a result of it.
I think Nikola Moro could have showed us that he could provide CDM play we were desperate to find in guys like Rog, Kovacic, Pasalic and Badelj. Lovro Majer is on a huge upswing too, and probably could have been an effective offensive spark off the bench (similar to what Brekalo provides).
This U21 tournament will effectively end the chance for us to try these guys out for potential Euro2021 inclusion for our senior squad.
It’s not the end of the world, but still, the focus should always be on the senior squad.

  6. Pero says:

I care as do most on here about the U-21’s success they are the future after all?
They won’t play in the euros but a few might gain valuable experience in the World Cup even if it’s riding the pine or getting a few minutes during garbage time.
Why compare us to the Serbs, that’s a slap in the face!
Don’t compare Crisp delicious apples to rotten oranges.

  7. The Great Anonymous Doom says:

Šutalo is a good player. Could see him having a part in the future of the defense

  8. Suba says:

    Well said Pero

As our dragi Ante Starcevic once said Hrvati are a thousand years ahead of the srbi in every respect

It does matter with respect with how youth teams are tracking although yes the main focus is the senior squad

It lays down a good foundation for any transition period

Serbia is a decent team should have done better but there is something seriously wrong with their mentality

Just look how they have conducted their national and foreign politics since the conquest by the ottomans

They have become a simple yet extremely treacherous people

    Za dom spremni

  9. Voice of treason says:

I raise a glass 🥃 to you Pero
Treacherous.what a great term to describe the Serbs Suva.
It combines under handed, back stabbing, dishonest, slimey all in one word.

  10. Iggy says:

Ante, any way to log into the site now? It just goes to a dead end so ppl can’t see my cute lil avatar image, lol.

Anyways, two months between tournament group and finals state? lol dafuq?

Iggy you have a face and voice for radio especially with that awesome Aussie accent…keep it as is.

  12. Anonymous says:

iggy u still dating that gurl wit the implants?

  13. ARMADA87 says:

Dating a girl with implants doesn’t align with living a ‘za dom … spremni’ lifestyle, last time I check my ZDS manual…

  14. Suba says:

    Ahhh I don’t know about

We might find some exemption to Iggy

You have to read the fine print armada

  15. Medo says:

They’re good to bone even with a bit of silicone.

  16. Anonymous says:

It does align with people that live the ZKS lifestyle, maybe Iggy’s family are from Rijeka as well and aren’t capable of living the ZDS lifestyle.

  17. Soul Champ says:

    Pass on the plastic sise.

    Prirodna is the ZDS way.

    I am happy for u21.

The senior crew needs to win now.

Let’s see who out of the u21 can step up next fall.

I will take a goal keeper, who is big and agile.

  18. Iggy says:

To be fair, she got those huge boobs AFTER i was with her, so i wasnt with her at the relevant time and, nah, obv not with her anymore lol.

  19. Anonymous says:

Screw nogomet let’s get back to picka it’s a refreshing change.
Iggy you ever had a 3sum?
    Preferably with chicks 🐥 🐣

  20. Anonymous says:

I don’t think Iggy is a poo pusher

    Armada might be though

I dunno he does love those fuzzy balls 🎾

  22. Miki says:

You have to care about under 21s why did we suck talent wise from 2000 to 2008 because our youth didnt develop.

This born 1998 generation is one of the better ones croatia has i also heard the 2001 2002 born players are great too.

Euro under 21 2019 look at the players on a team now caleta uremovic pongracic bradaric vlasic brekalo.

  23. Andrej L says:

That’s sick that they can still make the senior Euros. Loads of talent in that squad and Biscan seems like a decent coach.

    Mile for President!

  24. Iggy says:

BTW How do some weirdos on this site know about the cosmetic surgery proclivities of my exes lmao?

  25. Maminjo says:

Biscan is a good coach, and one to watch for NT coach one day (after he gets enough experience).

We have some good coaches, and I don’t believe the whole ‘foreign’ coach thing is some sort of necessity.
Sharing a language and mentality is important, especially if you need to drum up Vukovar from time to time (lol).

We have Bjelica who is good. Vladimir Petkovic if we can pry him from the Swiss when he’s a free agent. Kek if we’re not against a goose-eating ski-lover coaching us.
…and we have guys like Biscan, Juric and Prosinecki gaining experience in good leagues.

  26. Suba says:

How cool would it be too see Zuti coach the Vatreni

It would be a dream come true

  27. Maminjo says:

    Bjelica is better than Žuti.

I think Bišćan has high potential as a coach. Interested in seeing how his career goes.

So long as we no longer hire first-time inexperienced coaches for our National Team (like we did with Bilić, Štimac and Kovač) we should be ok.

    Need 10+ years experience first.

  28. ElviSS says:

Boob jobs are better than some of the
Flappy and crooked nipples I had to endure
In my life. I did it for Hrvatska though.

Maminjo stick to the topic at hand .which do you prefer real or fake tata’s.

  30. Maminjo says:

But of course, I advocate for government subsidies to cover the cost of augmentation.

Maybe I’m a feminist, but I find it odd that breast implants for men are covered in some countries, but not for women.

Can always trust you to provide an honest and candid response unlike some others on this site

    Well done brother

  32. BZ says:

Most coaches (all nationalities) suck, but Juric is doing something right at Verona. His team has zero talent, and has been solid for a year now, including impressive results against Serie A elite teams.

Going on merit, Juric is the guy.

The problem is: We have talent and we only have one way of consistently beating good teams. Highly doubt that whatever Juric is doing in Verona would apply to our NT team.

  33. Iggy says:

Well, just so everyone has the full breadth of the discussion here, this is the woman that Anon was talking about and her respective implants:

So the question is, is that okay or were the users on here saying implant = no way would screw correct?

  34. Iggy says:

BTW Ante there is an issue with no line spaces being added anymore.. so the top priorities are allow logins to forum and fix the line spacing lol

  35. Sjuki says:

I cant wait for Dalic and make it semi final of the euros and till that point he will be hero on this forum again. We as croats are like women when they trying to lose weight very annoying

  36. Iggy says:

btw in case anyone wanted to see the actual goals:

  37. Pero says:

Props iggy she’s not too shabby.. I’ve done worse in better days.Being genetically gifted with a Hrvat sledge hammer erases all of our lesser physical traits which we all possess!

  38. Anonymous says:

    Her running shoes cheapen her.
Nice pair of wedge sandals paired with the fake boobies would look good

  39. AB says:

Fk Žuti as a coach and person.
He coached Zvijezda, he makes me sick all round. He has no shame. Pravi govno.

What kind of a man shows pictures of his girlfriend on a website of dudes and then joins in the wash women discussion about her appearance? And how does anyone know any pictures someone puts on a website are genuine and that “iggy”, who’s always talking about losing, is even Croatian?

  43. Iggy says:

She ain’t my girl, and she ain’t been for many, many years.. last i heard she was in a court battle to be deported from Cali, i couldnt care less, as for common discussion, yeah, i think it’s fun tbh lol

i would never upload pics of my current partner tho, but this is something i dont care about.

    Everyone in the Jadran.

That pic is central casting Cali ho for show!!

Plastic fruit looks good from a far but as you get closer you realize there is nothing nutritious about it.

Bišćan looks like he is a solid coach.

It seems we need to produce more managers.

    Priority list:

    1-Goal keepers
    3-Full backs

Full faith in Šuker and HNS to put in a national infrastructure to address these needs … NOT!!
