Croatians Around Europe XVI: Bašić, Barišić On The Scoresheet

January 17, 2021

Toma Bašić (R) scores for Bordeaux

24 year-old Toma Bašić scored an insurance goal for Bordeaux in a 3-0 win over Nice. Bašić one-timed a left-footed shot from the penalty spot and got the ball under the keeper. He has been a pivotal part of this Bordeaux team who currently sit 8th in the French Ligue 1. Bašić is a box-to-box midfielder and should be integrated more seriously into Croatian plans in 2021.

Bašić Goal

Borna Barišić

Borna Barišić played the full 90 minutes for Rangers and assisted on the game-leveling goal Sunday in a 1-1 draw against Motherwell. Rangers are flying in the Scottish Premier League and currently have a 21-point lead on 2nd place Celtic. Barišić has already outgrown Scotland since coming over from Osijek in 2018.

Barišić Assist

Marcelo Brozović

Marcelo Brozović got the start for Inter Milan Sunday and played all 90 minutes in a 2-0 win over reigning Italian champions Juventus. Ivan Perišić remained on the bench as an unused substitute as he looks to make a move away from the club this month. With the three points, Inter are now tied with AC Milan atop the Serie A table going into Monday. AC Milan play Monday night.

Mateo Kovačić played the full match for Chelsea in Saturday’s 1-0 win over 10-man Fulham. The three points is huge for Chelsea but Kova did not have an exceptional game as gave him a 6/10 as he “Offered little in either final third of the pitch, and quality was lacking in the middle, too. Drove forward a little more in the second half.”

Did anyone hear zidane blaming Modric for the Copa del Rey exit

    What a fucking dirty Arab

  2. gbvh says:

    Didn’t hear that?
    • •
Didn’t see the game — no TV for it in Canada — but from what I understood Vasquez was at fault for both goals.
    • •
Modric rating from (only one player, Asensio, got a higher score than 7, and that was a 7.25):
    • •
Luka Modric — 7: A creative outlet for Madrid in a frustrating game. Connected well with the attacking line. Finished with one shot and two dribbles. Subbed after 67 mins.

  3. BEĆAR says:

    Supercopa, not Copa del Rey
Can you link the article you read?

  4. CroatiaU14 says:

Borna Sosa with ANOTHER assist. The dude is on fire this season!

  5. Markus says:

The future at the LB position is better than it ever was. Bradaric is going to be fantastic and should already be the locked starter over guys like Barisic and especially Melnjak. Sosa will be a very very solid backup option and even Gvardiol can play LB well if Bradaric gets injured or performs badly in the future.

  6. Maminjo says:

How funny would it be if Melnjak started in the March qualifiers lol

  7. Marko says:

Conte that dumb ass whopp pisses me off not starting perisic – he’s world class and not sure if I read it here or another report but in major international tourneys he’s tied with suker for contributing – goals/assists at 10 (has less goals obviously and more assists though then davor) but they both at 10 (not comparing them as that’s like apples and oranges but for contribution…so that’s past tense and footballs all about who’s in form and what have u done for me lately as we all know but just about always when Ivan’s in the mood he causes trouble for the opposition and it’s not like he loses his form really when he’s fit and good to go – more about if he’s in the mood – and mostly he is, especially for the NT- not discounting his competitiveness for Inter as he usually gives his all which I don’t understand how this Martinez been getting the start over Ivan – total BS- conte that fuckin moron – I hope Ivan stays in serie A goes where he’s valued(getting full playing time)- perhaps a Roma, lazio, would be nice to see him at AC too bad boban wasn’t pulling the strings anymore – his moves got them to where they are now- oh well no matter as long as he’s healthy for euro is all that’s important

  8. Marko says:

Not sure if conte knows where to put perisic, if he’s guessing positional strategy where to place him but no excuse for not starting him as he deserves a spot over hakimi, darmian, those on the wing and even tho he could be used as striker we all know that ain’t his natural position like slotting rebic in up top alone or kramaric – only mandzo and Eduardo in past 10-12 years have filled that role well for us- slight slight exception can be made for right place right time olic but not really as he’s great in the 6 like ruud van nistelrooy and runs his ass off but lacked the skills as we know – still better then mornar tho lol

Zubcic is not intelligent enough to memorize the slalom courses.

  10. Markus says:

Mandzo to AC Milan, it’s official

  11. Dannyj says:

This perisic/inter saga needs to end
    He has been wasted
But least he is getting some mins and staying in shape

He will leave it all on the field during euro

I got an email about euro tickets again
I imagine it’s gonna be played behind closed doors??
I can’t see covid clearing out by early summer
    Let’s hope it does
With all these other variants coming… looks grim

Obviously all teams do better with fans but I believe we have something even more special then others

  12. CiganJeCigan says:

modric, brozovic, livakovic, and rebic are locked in starters for euros, btw rebic is by far our best winger

  13. Maminjo says:

You forgot Perišić, Vlašić and Vrsaljko. No way those guys don’t start.
There are four starting positions up for grabs, between a small group of players.
The LB, CB, CB, and FW positions.
    LB: Bradarić, Sosa, Barišić, Melnjak
CB (2): Ćaleta-Car, Lovren, Vida, Pongračić, Gvardiol
    FW: Kramarić, Petković
Gvardiol and Sosa are newcomers and likely won’t get the start (maybe not even a callup for the Euros)… But they have an outside chance due to possible injury and the fact that they are better than some of our senior options already.
Pongračić probably would have had a good chance to start if it wasn’t for his Mono infection. He probably won’t be able to snag a starting role this year.
Bradarić will probably win that LB spot, unless he messes up and Barišić’s good form impresses Dalić more. Probably between these two. I doubt Melnjak has a chance but it’s hard to exclude a guy who has been Dalić’s unquestionable LB starter for a year now (for some fucked up reason).
Hard not to see Ćaleta-Car starting. It will likely be him, plus the more in-form player between Lovren and Vida.
The striker position will likely be Krama, but Petković has a chance too, especially against certain sides (like Scotland).
The only thing that this shows us is how much of a waste of time Dalić’s experiments at the Nations League were, and that it led to nothing in terms of changes to our starting eleven or other formations.

  14. Markus says:

Why start Petkovic specifically against Scotland?

  15. Suba says:

This basic kid is tracking nicely
Dalic ought to integrate him into the squad immediately and before the euros begin

  16. Suba says:

Petkovic will play against Scotland because of his physicality
I think that was the point by Maminjo
Krama is too inconsistent so Dalic needs to balance the playing time between Andrej and petka
Or can both see field time at the same time

  17. Crotown says:

Great Croatian flag citing in the New Orleans – Tampa football game- nice!!!

  18. Razbijač says:

Basic should be integrated in the Spring, especially with the likes of Rog and Pasalic recovering from knee surgery…

And it’s unlikely Rog will be fit for the Euros, so look to see Basic make that squad.

If most of you lived in Yugoslavia you would have been establishment toadies. Look at Ante Kvartuc, he talks tough now about “yugos” and “chetniks” long after other people won Croatia’s independence; and I’m not just talking about soldiers, I’m talking about people who took tremendous risks using words well before the war that got those soldiers to fight.
Now Ante Kvartuc erases anything that exposes our politically correct establishment, he’s the yugo of the white race. We are trying to achieve what Croatians did, except on a much bigger scale – we want White Independence.

  26. Soul Champ says:

“He was always involved in Inter’s play, constantly offering an option for whichever teammate was on the ball, and he protected the defence effectively,” they wrote.“Tactically he didn’t make a single mistake.”

  29. Markus says:

Interesting however Sosa isn’t going to start for NT. He’s still ok with the U21 and maybe will be a sub to Bradaric. Bradaric is just simply better and has better potential.
