Croatians Around Europe XXI: Perišić, Inter Thump AC Milan 3-0

February 21, 2021

With 15 matches remaining in the Serie A season, we have new favorites for the ‘scudetto’.

Ivan Perišić, Marcelo Brozović, and Inter Milan thumped AC Milan 3-0 on Sunday to take a 4-point lead on the Serie A table. Perišić had his best game in an Inter shirt with two assists which came alongside a goal-scoring attempt and another near assist. He was given a perfect 10/10 from SempreInter as it was “Undoubtedly his best performance at Inter. Dominating the left wing offensively as well as defensively. Phenomenal. The other man of the match.”

Marcelo Brozović also got the start for Inter Milan in the win and received a 7.5 rating as he had a “Very good game by the Croatian playmaker dictating the tempo of the midfield. Starting to form a ruthless partnership with Eriksen.” Ante Rebić had a rough day for AC Milan as it was “Not his type of game at all, as with Theo there was no space on the left which severely limited his pace and without his pace he was basically a lame duck for the entire game.” Mario Mandžukić did not dress for AC Milan in this match after starting on Thursday in Europa League.

Perišić with 2 assists

Luka Modrić and Real Madrid are creeping up on La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid with a 1-0 win over Real Valladolid on Saturday. Luka Modrić had a had an above average game pulling the strings in the midfield with a 7.5 rating: “Modrić had another excellent two-way performance at the heart of Real Madrid’s midfield. He completed two dribbles and two key passes while also contributing with three tackles and two interceptions. With Atletico losing 2-0 to Levante on Saturday, Real Madrid only trail the leaders by three points.

Notice how the political correctness missionaries, otherwise known as the “free press” are more careful how they use the word “racist” and “diversity” now? So they use terms like “racial abuse” and “inclusiveness”. They are such dishonest rats.
They say Zlatan was “racially abused” but OF COURSE don’t explain how so. Morons, Muslim is a religion, not a race, Zlatan is a White Muslim.
Serbians were recently at WAR with Bosnian Muslims and lost territory to Albanian muslims that had been part of Serbia for over FIVE HUNDRED YEARS, but to the ignorant retard PC missionaries, a Serbian man shouting an anti-muslim epitaph at a soccer game is BIG NEWS!
What ever your opinion is about Balkan politics, right or wrong, a Serbian is naturally going to take the side of Serbians. I am Croatian, I am going to naturally take the side of Croatians unless of course a particular set of Croatians are TRAITORS to their own kind. Simple, isn’t it?

  5. Anonymous says:

Some of you are talking about anti-Croatian films about Jasenovac, the problem is you do not talk about how those films are bullshit, just that the people who made them are assholes – that only indicates that YOU are the liar.
My gut tells me anything the establishment says about Croatians in WW2 is bullshit b/c I know most of what is said about WW2 is bullshit. I can EXPLAIN how the “six million” is bullshit. I don’t know much at all about Jasenovac. You need to EXPLAIN how what they say is bullshit.
Here’s an assist: if they have to put you in jail for “hate speech” for disagreeing with them, THEY are lying.

Why won’t haet answer any questions? Why does he just call people childish names when questioned?

  7. Razbijač says:

Sosa with an amazing assist off a set piece. Man with Brozovic, Modric, and Sosa…Croatia will have some deadly set piece delievery

  8. Iggy says:

That would be a good change, normally the only deadly things about set pieces is anytime we concede one anywhere near our goal lol

  9. The Great Anonymous Doom says:

Speaking of which… I doubt anybody is following the English Championship, but Simon Sluga had 9 clean sheets in a row until Luton Town’s most recent pummeling by some other tiny club. I gather that Luton has one of the worst defenses known to professional football, and that Sluga has gotten a lot of action over there.

  10. Z says:

Milan Badelj the forgotten one with a beauty last minute equalizer for Genoa.

  11. Suba says:

Nice goal from Badelj although Verona should have won
Pjaca again not living up to his so called potential hmmm

  12. The Great Anonymous Doom says:

Much as I want to see change in the repka’s central defense, I really wouldn’t mind a seasoned midfield of Modrić, Brozović, and Badelj working to keep possession and keep things under control while the new defenders get their repka legs and while the forwards figure out how to play together.

If they didn’t explain how so, then why call them morons before you get an explanation?
Look, there is talk of the Serbs being a caucasoid mongoloid mixed race, so they might of been abusing Zlatan because he’s pure white. If you look at Alex Vucic he looks like a caucasoid mongoloid mix and like he has down syndrome, people like Alex Vucic that have down syndrome used to be called mongoloid also.

  14. Suba says:

Hahaha I always wondered why Vucic looked so weird

Mario injured for Milan derby tomorrow

  21. Eric says:

    Perisic is on fire….nice assist!!

  22. CiganJeCigan says:

folks, and this is why we call perisic the magic man, he can turn invisible and magically reappear when he wants to, one of his best performances, he just tries when he wants especially on important matches. Brozo was man marked, literally had like 2 touches the entire first half. but this created a lot of space for hakimi and perisic. rebic was excellent on 50/50 balls as usual where he won the majority of his aerial duels. but with bennecer injured, milan has no creativity in midfield.

  23. Branko says:

Why can’t we slot in perisic in at LB on the national team, he was outstanding there and he has really improved his defense assignments he’s no liability there whatsoever.

  24. Z says:

Domagoj Bradaric with a stoppage time goal to put some icing on the cake for an impressive Lille victory. That’s a good football club.

  25. BEĆAR says:

Vizinger with a goal and assist today. He’s someone to keep an eye on for the future.

  26. Markus says:

He plays LWB at Inter with a very offensive role. Yes he definitely defends but it took him a while to get used to playing LWB and now we’re talking about bringing him all the way back to LB? I don’t think he has the defensive abilities to play there to be honest and I highly doubt Dalic would even try something like that.

  27. Dannyj says:

I don’t recall anyone mentioning vizinger
    What’s his story

Maybe when perisic slows down too much he can go to LB
But surely we have enough talent at LB to fill the role in next couple of years

Heck try him at RB if vrsaljko gets injured

  28. Crnkovic says:

Yeah I be up for giving perisic a go at RB

  29. BEĆAR says:

He’s a forward who plays on our U21 team and for Wolfsberger in Austria. Wolfsberger are a Europa League team. He’s got potential.

  30. BEĆAR says:

Vlasic with a goal today in a Russian Cup game.

  31. Suba says:

The wheels are coming off at AC

Inter coming good even with conte at the helm

Atletico is losing points at a rapid rate

    Is Vrsaljkos injury serious
    I hope not

  32. BEĆAR says:

Bradaric goal. His calmness is impressive.

  33. BEĆAR says:

Perisic had his best game in ages today. Here are some ratings:
Ivan Perisic – 10: Undoubtedly his best performance in an Inter shirt. Dominating the left wing offensively as well as defensively. Phenomenal. The other man of the match.
Marcelo Brozovic – 7,5: Very good game by the Croatian playmaker dictating the tempo of the midfield. Starting to form a ruthless partnership with Eriksen.
Antonio Conte – 10: Perfectly prepared and executed his game-plan from start to finish. Has molded Perisic to being a top class wing-back.

  34. BEĆAR says:

Here’s Sosa’s assist from a set piece. He really whips it in with power from quite some distance. He’s been doing this pretty regularly lately.

  35. ARMADA87 says:

We could pull off a 3-5-2 with Perisic as a wing back and not have to worry about which LB we would have to stick in that role

  36. Anonymous says:

Niko Kovac’s Monaco shut down champions league favorites PSG 2-0. Niko’s 2nd win against PSG this season. Monaco beat PSG only 3 times since 2010.

    6th place Lovren-less Liverpool.

How’s the Barcelona midfield doing without Rakitic?

  38. Maminjo says:

Dalić won’t experiment with Perišić at LB.
He’s also not moving away from his favorite 4-2-3-1 formation either.
This is our guaranteed lineup at the Euros:
    GK: Livaković
    RB: Vrsaljko
    CB: Ćaleta-Car
    CB: Vida or Lovren
LB: Barišić, Bradarić or (maybe) Sosa
    CM: Brozović
    CM: Modrić
    ACM: Vlašić
    LW: Perišić
    RW: Rebić
    CF: Kramarić or Petković
Nobody outside of these guys above will start.
Dalić is pretty set at the central midfielder trio of Modrić, Brozović and Vlašić (there will be no surprises there)…
And he’s pretty set on having Perišić and Rebić start on the wings.
The only question will be whether he starts Kramarić or Petković up top (and it’s looking like it will be Kramarić).
He’s not gonna change any formation to try them both. At most, he will sub out Vlašić during the game and have Krama play in his spot (with Petko going up top).
The back four will be what we’ve recently been seeing, with Ćaleta-Car as the main CB cog, with one of Vida or Lovren being picked as his partner.
Vrsaljko is guaranteed RB starter, and any one of Barišić, Bradarić or Sosa can be LB.
LB is really the only spot in our entire lineup that could be a surprise.. But it won’t be Perišić… it will only be one of those three mentioned.. Yea, he’s been playing Melnjak alot there, but I think that was just a family favor to get him some exposure for a transfer.
Only thing that changes this are injuries, or a sudden bad set of gaffes directly leading to lost games during these March qualifiers (most likely from Livaković or Lovren/Vida) but it would have to be a several mistakes I think in order for Dalić to switch to using Gvardiol or one of our other options on the bench.

  39. Dannyj says:

What you guys think realistic chance of luka playing in World Cup?
All we need is beast mode perisic for another tourney and he can very well change things
I forget who would say it soul champ or Slavonac but we go as perisic goes. For sure it’s Lukas game to dictate but it’s Perisic to change at a whim

  40. Dannyj says:

With our current set up does a striker like mandzo fit better or a more technical style of krama/petko

That Sosa cross was something else and quality finish for bradaric

Kovac I guess just needs a team to fit his strategy and does well

He has coached quite well at all club teams correct me if I’m wrong?
He probably wasn’t ready for Bayern and maybe that’s not his style Obviously he has an ego but has shown he can get the job done better at club level then bilic

  41. Poglavnik says:

    That’s an awesome ball in!

  42. Anonymous says:

“We go as Perisic goes” was said in Croatia by I think it was Ciro (or some other expert, but I first heard it there from someone), and then it was repeated here by Slavonac from Canada because he agreed with that statement, like I’d imagine most of us would because it was pretty obvious for a long time.

  43. Anonymous says:

If anyone watched Stuttgart last week Sosa could’ve had 5 assists.

  44. Markus says:

I remember hearing in some interview from Luka saying he will represent us until his services are no longer needed. If he is still in good form and doing well by 2022, he’ll play, and if 2024 comes around and we still need him, according to his statement he’ll play. But by then he would be 38, so I’m not sure just how good he would be and at that point maybe we’d already have some young midfielders that would be better to play (Sucic).
Yeah I agree. There’s no way I see that lineup changing for the Euros. If I had to guess it’s probably (and unfortunately) going to be Barišić as LB. Between Lovren and Vida he will play whoever does better in the qualifiers, and for striker it’s probably going to be Krama. However, if Krama has one bad game I can very well see Petko replacing him and Krama fighting with Vlasic for that CAM position. I really hope Dalic experiments during the qualifiers with Petko up top and Vlasic at CAM one game and Krama at CAM one game. I’d say go with the guy who compliments Petkovic more.

  45. caine says:

I guess Goran Juric ( Domagoj Brad ) is back for us…simply impressive from him.
Kovac shutting down Pochetino…hope he brings Monaco back on top and our players back to Monaco, like PRSO

  46. CiganJeCigan says:

personally i would go with barisic LB cuz he is the tallest and physically strongest and considering our defensive set piece problems i just want the most solid guys in there, that goes for our wingers as well which is why i dont rate brekalo.
all that being said, our biggest problem rn is our right back, guy just got re injured again. doubt he will be available for euros. uremovic was decent when he played there but he looked kinda slow.

  47. Maminjo says:

Not sure if Barisic is any more solid defensively than Bradaric or Sosa.
His poor late tackle on Gareth Bale against Wales near the end of the game (in our 1-1 draw with them) should have been a penalty and it would have lost us the game. Could have cost us qualification too. We’re very lucky that Bale did not flop, and as a result, the ref did not call it.
I won’t fault him too much for that, because he makes few mistakes defensively, but I don’t think he’s any better than Bradaric or Sosa. He’s not some stalwart that is so good defensively that we can ignore the lack of offense.
Offensively, both Bradaric and Sosa are much, much better.
I think Barisic should be third in the pecking order.
He may be taking set pieces and penalties for Rangers, but I do NOT like what I see from him offensively when he plays for us. He struggles to make runs and crosses, and doesn’t really seem to work well with Perisic. Bradaric was much better in his limited minutes for us.
I only want to see Bradaric and Sosa in these qualifiers and friendlies coming up. We need to see how well they play and mesh with Perisic on overlapping runs.

  48. Maminjo says:

I really think we need to just bite the bullet and go with Gvardiol in the CB role.
I don’t think he’ll make any more mistakes than Lovren could, and he offers so much more than Vida when it comes to passing and technical ability.
The risk would be him making errors, but those risks already exist with Lovren anyway.
One of Bradaric or Sosa has to start at LB. Gotta evaluate in these March games and friendlies. Either one should do well.
We also really need to call up some other keepers and try them out in friendlies. Dalic has spent very little time looking at this area I think.
I think both Kalinic and Sluga need to be cut outright. I don’t think either are good enough to ever play. Kalinic is mentally done, and Sluga is a gaffe machine.
If any team watches tape on Livakovic, they will learn very quickly that they can just take long range shots all game, or send high ball crosses into the box.
    Guaranteed mistake every time.
Livakovic is just so hesitant in his reaction.
Try out Grbic in the next friendly. Call up the veteran Andrija Vukovic, or a couple of other keepers from HNL.
I’ll bet we have at least two capable goalkeepers. Dalic was just lazy and picked the Dinamo one.

  49. Iggy says:

Man Bradaric is covered in tats, back in the day Ziva would be spitting chips seeing that, remember “Look at me Livaja” for the same reason? LOL

  50. ARMADA87 says:

    @ Maminjo
Sluga has actually played well this year, even though Luton Town are bottom half of the table. I watch highlights here and there, but according to post match reports, Luton’s D is awful and Simon is the one keeping them in a lot of games. I think last year he started off bad, but he’s turned it around. By no means a world class keeper, but at least he’s getting regular play and putting up decent form in a pretty good league.
I get wanting to try out Grbic, but he’s literally stuck at the bench at Atletico and has played what, 2 times for them in the cup?
I’m with you in terms of ‘seeing what we have’ when it comes to GK but I think we have other options like Vukovic, Ivusic, Nevistic and Semper even that are getting regular playing time at their respective clubs vs. someone who’s just riding the pine.
I don’t follow Grbic as closely since he left the HNL, but has there been talk of AM loaning him out? I get that he’s learning from one of the best in the world (Oblak) and doing an apprenticeship of sorts, but nothing beats actual playing time and he’s what… 24/25? I could see if someone like Ivor Pandur does an apprenticeship like that, given he’s only 20, but you should have a job locked down and be a regular starter if you’re trying to ‘move onward and upward’ in club football…

  51. The Great Anonymous Doom says:

I agree with Armada about Sluga. I already posted this, I think, but there was a stretch where Sluga didn’t let in a single goal for like 9 games, I think. That’s on a team so weak in defense that he’s getting pelted practically the whole game. Also, the English game is very aerial, so he might even be best prepared to work with our defensive weaknesses.

  52. ARMADA87 says:

    @ The Great Anonymous Doom
At the end of the day, I’m not saying Sluga should start over Livakovic. Not that Livakovic is some all world keeper either, but he does have more chemistry with the back line compared to Sluga. Sluga has gotten 3 meaningless caps with the repka so it would be a tall ask to throw him in as the #1, even if Livakovic was not available.
I think for this tournament, based on club form and being part of the NT fold now for a few years, I’m ok with Sluga being our backup at the Euro, barring another one of our keepers getting into dynamite form between now and the summer.

  53. Maminjo says:

I dunno. I’ve seen some Sluga blunders, and he also didn’t do well in the game he played for us.
    Šemper blunders alot too.
I don’t watch too many Luton or Serie B games to truly judge them, but I dunno. Some of their blunders have been Lovren level.
I’m not convinced of Grbić either (based on his highlights) but we gotta try anyone else other than Livaković who has very serious weaknesses dealing with high balls and long range shots.

  54. ARMADA87 says:

He HAD some blunders yes, but his recent form has been good + he’s a regular starter for Luton. I think he did alright in his 3 caps for the repka? I mean, I can’t recall a true gaffe he made?
Sure, lets try Grbic during a friendly. I hope he does well, but this dude has been sitting around for a year not playing in any games really…. again, hope he proves me wrong.

  55. Markus says:

I’m not high on Sluga at all. He let in 3 against Turkey’s back ups, and I’d say 2 were his fault. He may be doing well at Luton but he’s also not facing quality opposition (same can be said for Livakovic). Also (Kovacic being a prime example of this), we know that good form at club doesn’t always translate into good form for the NT.
With that being said, Livakovic is our starter going ahead. Whether you like it or not he’s probably our most quality keeper, and even if you disagree, Dalic makes the decisions and he’s clearly got his starter for the Euros. Livakovic is still pretty young in goalkeeper terms and I think he will turn out very good once he moves to a bigger club and plays much more quality teams that can expose his weaknesses. Then he will have to adapt and work on them. I don’t think we have any keeper who’s better than him right now.
I do agree with giving Grbic some games before Euros just to see, but as Armada said, he’s been riding pine all season. Not expecting too much from him.

  56. ARMADA87 says:

    Fair points.
I think we have a pretty good group of talent keepers, going from more experienced guys like Lovre Kalinic, who I’m not ready to sell off quite yet all the way down to someone like an Ivor Pandur, who showed a lot in the HNL and got a move to Serie B but has a ways to go before he potentially ‘pops’.
For now, I don’t see someone ‘popping’ and turning into the next Oblak – but, I think one of these younger guys will ‘pop’ and turn into something. There is too much talent and just god given ability for all the guys that are in the NT radar for NO ONE to turn into a Danjiel Subasic level keeper i.e. plays at a big club, can be all world in some moments and lock down the repka GK spot.
Kind of how I feel about GK in a way is how we’re at LB now too. We just have too much talent for all our young guys to be busts. It’s not mathematically possible lol

  57. Markus says:

Yeah I get your thinking. One of these young guys will definitely turn into something good, my personal favourite being Karlo Ziger.

  58. The Great Anonymous Doom says:

Anyone know when Dalić will announce the squad for qualifiers?

  59. Maminjo says:

I think if Livakovic gets transferred to a bigger club, his career will end up the same as Kalinic, Letica, Grbic and other keepers who ended up leaving the HNL.
I don’t think Livakovic is any better than many of the keepers we have in the HNL or foreign leagues. It’s just an unnecessary risk for Dalic to experiment with the goalkeeper right now. Nobody would fault him for sticking with Livakovic, but people would fault him if he made a change and the new keeper made a gaffe at the tournament. It’s the Subasic World Cup final situation all over again.

  60. Maminjo says:

Yea, maybe Žiger turns out to be good.
His family is on the border of Slovenia (near Varazdin) so that’s a good sign. His last name is also Germanic. All good goalkeeping things.

  61. LAknat says:

    Dalic is so stupid {}
    to begin with ..

It’s proved that he is only an average football manager | Relying on fortune and not give some benefit with extraordinary things!

    LAknat would get :
    – Subasic out | in World Cup Final
    – Rebic man-marking Mbepee

for the current situation now |
I may just test the keepers in a training camp! select for the best, then put him in a friendly match | if he is good enough | confirmed as the no 1 GK: otherwise – just put Livakovic again
