All Good Things Must Come To An End: Ngannou Rocks Miocic With 2nd Round KO

March 27, 2021

There’s no easy way of putting it. Miocic got rocked Saturday night. I’m gutted. It wasn’t fun to watch. I’m still processing what I just witnessed.

All signs point to Ngannou fighting Jon Jones this summer. But where does that leave Miocic?

Will there be a trilogy fight against Ngannou? Will he hang it up? There’s many questions that need to be answered in the upcoming weeks.

Stipe Miocic has done it all. He picked up the UFC Heavyweight belt in 2016 with a knockout over Fabricio Werdum and has held it every second since – except for a 13-month span when Daniel Cormier TKO’d him in 2018. But Miocic won the trilogy against Cormier; taking the next two fights, and will now have to defeat a familiar foe once again.

Miocic outlasted Ngannou back in January of 2018 to defend the heavyweight belt for a third time. Ngannou is a monster and can finish the fight with a single punch, but got gassed after the first round. Miocic worked him for the next four rounds as Ngannou got tired and eventually took home the belt.

Miocic Nutritionist Dr. Paul Biondich

Now three years later, everyone is a bit older and Stipe comes into this fight at the ripe age of 38. Ngannou was always supposed to create a legacy for himself in the heavyweight division but won’t be able to until Miocic leaves or he beats him. Maybe Miocic is Ngannou’s kryptonite. Ngannou has won every single fight by stoppage but his three losses have always gone the distance. The winner of this fight is supposed to dance with Jon Jones this summer. Seems totally fair to me.

Miocic has been an underdog in enough title fights already. I think he wins once again if he can survive the 1st Round against Ngannou.

Let’s do it again. Stipe to win, retire on the night

  2. ARMADA87 says:

    Interesting piece of ESPN
I’m all about the home cooking and love Stipe, like the rest of us, but not sure I’m willing to put him ahead of Fedor…
Would of been amazing to see prime Fedor go up against prime Stipe. Talk about must see TV for the MMA relam..
That said, I think Stipe wins this, tells Dana to go fuck himself and retires. When it comes to the HW division in UFC, he’ll be the undisputed GOAT.

  3. Iggy says:

TBH Fedor is the greatest fighter ever of any division imho, closely followed by Noguiera, Cane, then Cro-Cop, then Stipe.

But that’s an argument for another day about Pride or UFC etc, certainly since UFC days Stipe is the best

  4. U Boj says:

Great fighter and last fight against Ngannou he had a great game plan. Looking forward to this fight. Stipe is a good Croat and humble guy. My bet is on him. Bog I Hrvati.

  5. Poglavnik says:

Stipe can (and will I believe) beat him again and Ngannou knows it.
Just don’t get caught early. Drag the fight out and his chances get better and better.

  6. Anonymous says:

Ngannou by KO in 27 seconds.

  7. Iggy says:

Agree the longer the fight goes on, the better Stipe chances, obviously he is fitter.. we will see if he keeps taking it down like last time or has a dif plan

  8. Maminjo says:

Stipe actually ate a few punches from Ngannou last fight and was fine.
It’s really just that uppercut he has to avoid.

  9. Z says:

    Stipe. Very close decision

  10. Anonymous says:

Fedor beer gut ruski.,fought a bunch of pilons plugs and had no where near a tough run of real tough guys like stipe..what are ya smoking crack to back fat drugged fedor..imo.

  11. Maminjo says:

Stipe just has the ideal MMA skillset with great all around boxing and wrestling.
On top of that, he has heavy hands and can knock out anyone (like he did to Werdum with that short jab) and he also can eat a few punches before being knocked out himself (with that big Croat head). He ate quite a few heavy punches from Ngannou last time they fought. Lots of guys would have have been wobbly after that.
Stipe just needs to avoid that uppercut. Similar to how he got knocked out by Cormier with a close-range uppercut. Even in his unfortunate loss to Struve, he ate a ton of jabs…but when he got tagged with 2-3 uppercuts is when he began to stumble. He seems to eat jabs and hooks pretty well, but it’s impossible to eat uppercuts in the heavyweight division.

  12. Jarac says:

Ngannou is a fucking amateur compared to stipe’s skillset…he has a punchers chance and that’s it…

Stipe is a beast and would’ve whooped a lot of those pride fighters asses too…

  13. Slavonac from Canada says:

I truly appreciated this interview…this guy is incredibly interesting and knowledgeable….thanks for bringing this guy on Ante…I thoroughly enjoyed this!

  14. Iggy says:

And for anyone wondering why i say he should retire after this win, it’s cos the winner of this is v Jon Jones, which is a sham in itself, if Stipe was to win this and then retire immediately, it would be handing Dana the shaft since the winner won’t fight Jones, and Dana has been an absolute cunt to Stipe since he was in UFC so it would serve him right, that’s why i say that.

  15. Maks says:

I’ve gone to see Dr. Biondic a few times. He’s a class act. Really friendly and knowledgeable, too.

  16. Maminjo says:

He seems like a good guy and knowledgeable in his field.
But we really need to stop calling chiropractors doctors, lol.

  17. Anonymous says:

Is Stipe still supporting BLM or has he come to his senses? You don’t have to be an antiWhite establishment toady just b/c you’re famous.
I watched the highlights of Zagreb over Spurs and perused thru some of the comments, some people were glad to see “arrogant Mourinho” get beat. But is Mourinho really arrogant? Does he think he’s a big shot outside of soccer/his world just b/c he’s a famous soccer personality?
When Zlatan said about Lebron James that he should stick to what he’s good at he was essentially calling him arrogant. Now let’s think about this: has Lebron James said anything we all haven’t heard literally thousands of times from the establishment media, corporations, etc? Has he spoken any heresy to our established religion of Political Correctness? No. Yet he thinks he’s some big shot outside of basketball? And some NBA show will say how “powerful” so and so basketball player is. Come on man, that’s SILLY.
Meghan Rapinoe was recently at the White House to “witness” Biden signing some “equal pay” communist crap and she did the typical leaning over to “make sure it was signed”. She was only there b/c she’s famous. If she was never born, there would have been some other famous person there doing the exact same thing. The reality is she is a nobody outside of soccer. Famous people don’t have any power, they are too busy and too concerned about staying famous.

  18. Anonymous says:

Conor McGregor is one of the best prize fighters of all time b/c he’s a great fighter AND a great promoter, something that is very rare. And if you’re one his contemporaries and hate him for his personality you’re a dumb ass. Stick to what you’re good at.

  19. Anonymous says:

And the woman who told Lebron James to “just dribble”, she’s a nobody too, she’s the left’s fake opposition.

  20. Maminjo says:

    He is? Lol.
Watch him pull a Juranović and play well.

  21. Croatian Canadian says:

“Conor Mcgregor is on the best prize fighters of all time” what are you smoking? Mcgregor hasn’t done fuck all since his 2016 win against Alvarez. He’s been trash ever since that win. Beat down to Khabib, lost to Dustin, beat a washed up Donald C. He is a great promoter and can sell tickets but never say one of the best of all time. You know nothing about the sport of MMA.

  22. Croatian Canadian says:

I could name 10-15 fighters better than him
    Randy C
    Matt Hughes
    Chuck L
    Henry C

I’ll be watching UFC 260 free on an app created by mi amigo Navi, because you guys are racist I wont put up the name of the app on this site, plus the guy who created the app doesn’t want it to be broadcast over the internet.
You can’t download it today anyway, April 1st is the next time you can.
    O’malley beat Almeida by ko.

  36. Markus says:

    @kralj zvonimir
Then click fighting and the Miocic link should be there

  37. Kralj Zvonimir says:

@Markus, thans man. I found a free link finally. Thanks anyway…! Hope my boy Stipe mops the floor with Ngannou.

@anonymous…not sharing the name of the app, that sounds pretty racist to me, you left wing UDBA serb f*ck.

  43. Anonymous says:

Ouch, that was an unfortunate KO, I feel bad for Stipe but I’m still proud of him!

  44. Kralj Zvonimir says:

Stipe is still the greatest champion in UFC history. I doubt Ngannou will beat that record. An unfortunate knockout, but Stipe honestly looked a bit tired tonight…not enough drive or passion. Reminds me a bit of the current situation in the football squad.

  45. Anonymous says:

    I love it.
Stipe looked like an amateur in there.

  46. Markus says:

Unfortunate for Stipe… still the undisputed GOAT. Ngannou is a monster and I wish him the best in his career… he’ll never surpass Stipe though 😉. 1-2 years ago, and Miocic would’ve won this fight!

  47. Maminjo says:

Stipe is old, and he’s been in too many fights.
He should retire, and not bother with the trilogy. He has nothing left to prove.
Francis is so juiced lol. Jon Jones is gonna lose.

  48. Anonymous says:

    Stipe should fire his nutritionist

  49. Anonymous says:

Kralj Zvonimir. he looked tired and tiny out there. why is he smaller than before?

  50. Jarac says:

Stipe came in way to light and ngannou is on roids test that fucker…

  51. Christmas says:

Being 10 lbs lighter might have been fine against Cormier but against Ngannou is pure stupidity. Now sounding from the Biondic interview, who really is a nice inteligent guy, we dwon’t know if it was his guidance or if it was just Stipe and the rest of the Team saying to keep the same weight. He was very deflectionary on who would win…. To have a 30 lbs separation In weight is preposterous. What was him Team thinking!!?? Hope he gets another chance. Proud of him but there was real bad judgement in this preparation.

  52. Anonymous says:

Did any of you guys watch the fight?
There was a moment when Stipe thought he rocked Ngannou with a punch and thought to himself “i gotta try end it here, I’m fucked if I don’t,” so he went after him and he was fucked anyway.

  53. CroatianPerson85 says:

Too light. He was 240 the first fight. Easy for us as arm chair critics. Ngannou was more patient but Miocic hit him and thought he rocked him as anonymous said. He should have done the same thing he did round 1 and tried to tire him out but 30 pounds difference is to difficult to wrestle with the guy.

  54. Anonymous says:

I think Miocic panicked when he saw how difficult it was going to be to take Ngannou down, that’s why he went after him when he thought he rocked him, and that was his mistake.

  55. CroatianPerson85 says:

@Anonymous – agreed. I feel like he thought, oh shit this is hard I’m going all in now if It works it works if not tkoga jebe. You can’t stand and bang with Ngannou. I still think giving up the weight he did made a huge difference. He was 20 pounds lighter first fight. Still creates UFC HW ever. No one did to Ngannou what he did. He should have a rematch but DW won’t give it

  56. Anonymous says:

Agreed, I didn’t like the idea of going in that light either.

  57. Slovenac says:

Hrvatski nacionalizam ne znači samo ljubav prema rodnoj grudi i Hrvatskim domovima na njoj, on ne znači samo lokalni patriotizam, već lojalnu službu čitavom bijelom Zapadu.
    – Milan Šufflay
I’m loyal to the white west, not the white east.

  58. Jarac says:

If stipe was 250 with 20lbs more of muscle he would’ve been able to actually complete the take down attempt…

  59. Anonymous says:

The UFC really does need a 225 pound division, I actually recall Stipe calling for that once. I remember Tito Ortiz, Chuck and even Rich Franklin who fought the majority of his career at MW all used to walk around at 225.
How many midget divisions do we really need?

  60. Anonymous says:

Bones jones is dangerous..maybe stipe years have caught up..that jones just might injure monster nganou.,stipe doesn’t have to deal with jones..he should take it easy now…Tysons been knocked out 4 or 5 times of a fighter.

  61. CRO JERSEY KING says:

Stipe Miocic father and brother name is Bojan are they Serbs who are from Croatia?

  62. Blackman says:

The answer to your question is, no.

  63. U Boj says:

Not sure the game plan here but to give up 30 pounds is a big disadvantage. His team judged this one incorrectly.
Still though Stipe is one of the best. Not sure what that post fight interview by Francis was about as he looked like he was going to have a heart attack.

  64. The truth says:

Not sure what was more impressive

    Ngannou overall dominance

Or that stipe was able to last that long and take several shots that would’ve knocked 90 percent of the division down

You almost come to understand why stipe has done so well. This fight should’ve been over in the first minutes like all of ngss as nnous recent fights but stipe managed to last to the second

  65. Anonymous says:

Dumb fight Stipe should have retired last fight

  66. The truth says:

Just so there is no misunderstanding, my post should ve read ngannou previously

  67. Maminjo says:

If Stipe doesn’t choose to retire, they’ll probably make him fight Derrick Lewis before letting him challenge the winner between Ngannou vs Jones (which is a shame).
Worst case scenario for Dana White is if Stipe were to bulk up, come back, and take the winner of that match (and possibly win and retire right after).
I think if Ngannou wins, Dana would much rather prefer a Lewis vs Ngannou revenge match. If Jones wins, then Dana would do a trilogy between the two of them.
I think Stipe won’t get a shot for at least another year and a half at the earliest (when he is over 40). It might be pointless to bother.

  68. Lovro says:

When they were standing together with the referee before the start of the fight, I removed my finger from the “place now” button on my sports book website.

All of UFC knew this was going to be the obvious outcome.

The bullshit Ngannou was saying after the fight of being told to remain patient so he can conserve energy was actually Dana White worried his customers would be pissed about wasting $69.99

This fight should have never happened. Miocic’s trainers knew he had no chance.

We just witnessed our official “Croatia is past our prime” weekend.

  69. Anonymous says:

Stipe had to fight for one more fat paycheck.not bad for a few minutes.,most of us here won’t make that coin in our lifetime..stipe can retire in comfort.

  70. Croat Canadian says:

You guys are delirious. Stipe will retire with this loss and rightfully so. He has nothing left to prove or establish in the sport. Three of his losses come against opponent’s he has beaten. The greatest heavyweight of all time, most title defensives and has beaten all the best heavyweights. Why would he face Lewis? Lewis will face Francis in a rematch before Franics vs Jones. Stipe is finished but he’s engraved a legacy that no one will touch. He’ll be 39 this summer and has a kid on the way. It’s over my friends. Sad way to end a career but all good times come to a conclusion. It was a wild ride following him since 2015. Crazy 6 years and I’m glad I witnessed all of it.

  71. T Bone says:

Maybe Stipe comes back maybe he doesn’t, bottom line is why lose weight if your not up against tubby Cornier. This fight was lost before the first bell ring… Nganou more jacked than first fight, and you need less weight? F that. You go in jacked also. Stipe struggled to take Negro Apocalypse down, because of mass, his own lack of especially.

  72. Frenchman says:

“Very few foresaw what the new republic in North America was going to mean for the future; its vast and rapid expansion in numbers and wealth immensely strengthened the position of the Protestant culture in the world. It was much later that a certain proportion of Catholic immigrants somewhat modified this position, but even so, the United States remained during their astonishing increase an essentially Protestant society.”
    – Hilaire Belloc
So the white protestant American man needed the african, what’s your point? Why didn’t the lazy white protestant American man just leave them in Africa and clean their yards themselves? It seems to me that the white protestant made the American bed, so just fucking lie in it now and shut the fuck up is my suggestion.
And the Croatian diaspora had their children when they were scattered abroad. Born and raised to be liberals in lands not Croatian, why don’t they go back to their homeland if they’re so patriotic? Is it because there’s too many whites lol? Or is it because they love what America can offer them that Croatia can’t? Nothing wrong with being a sell out is there?
“Selling out” is a common expression for the compromising of a person’s integrity, morality, authenticity, or principles in exchange for personal gain, such as money.”
