Modrić And His Super Substitute Friends Save Croatia In Win vs. Malta

March 29, 2021

Oh boy, Dalić’s plan of starting the B-team and giving Modrić, Perišić, and Brozović rest nearly backfired on him. It took the Vatreni 62 minutes to score against Malta…MALTA!..and the Maltese should have been given a 1st half penalty kick as Juranović handled the ball in the box. Lucky for him, theres no VAR in World Cup qualifiers. Ask Ronaldo and Portugal how they feel about that.

Modrić, Perišić, and Brekalo came on at the 50′ mark and it changed the entire game around with leadership and intensity. Barišić would send a perfect cross to Perišić in the 62′ for the opening goal and Modrić would convert a penalty shortly after. Brekalo scored a 90th minute tap-in goal to put the icing on the cake.

Starting XI vs. Malta

It was a rough week for Croatian football. Only one goal in their first two matches against Slovenia and Cyprus. They needed a full hour to find the back of the net against Malta. But at the end of the day – with Russia losing to Slovakia and Slovenia losing to Cyprus – the Vatreni will somehow find themselves ties for first in qualifying going into a slew of tough September qualifiers against Russia, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

How? I have no idea. It’s like no one wants to go to Qatar from this group.

  1. Lovro says:

…and I’m sure they didn’t spend anytime practicing against the bunker since Saturday.

If it wasn’t for an awesome assist from an amateur semi-pro Cyprus defender, we’d be scoreless after 180 minutes.

  2. Iggy says:

Yeah it feels bad for me too, it sounds ridiculous to say but it’s almost difficult to see us winning for some stupid reason even tho we obv should be winning these games comfortably. Half expecting a disappointing draw.

  3. Soul Champ says:

I am actually feeling good about Malta.

There 2-2 away to Slovakia has everyone’s respect.

Inter Croazinale players have been pedestrian. Kramaric is addition by subtraction.

Maybe psychologically they thought they’d be staying in Milan?

Then they come and you are forced to start them.

Today’s match has a C team in LA against Mexico vibe to it.

Our hungry roster players vs Malta in a most win.

Juranovic provided the exemplar we need to follow with his dynamic running.

Budimir is due .. Kovačić .. law of averages says he has a good one today.

Cyprus is tougher than you think and may give Slovenia their own headache today.

Slovakia fighting for their lives vs Russia.

  4. Dannyj says:

Maybe a tie or a stuttering win is what we need to really shake it up
    Call the u21s and modric

  5. CiganJeCigan says:

dalic should bench brozo until he starts trying again. give modric a rest and lets finally see how kova takes the reins
    Subs: pasalic, kramaric, modric, perisic/lovric?

  6. Iggy says:

Definitely hoping Slovenians and Russians drop points today for sure and we eke out a win

  7. Johnny says:

I’m Maltese with a Croation wife, i’ve been following Croatia since the 90s, love their technical skill, as for individual tallent the Croatians among the best in the world.
I think if Croatia had say a German coach, someone who can discipline and gell the tallent, Croatia will be more consistent, they can be and will be World champions.
Good luck tonight , i hope Malta give you a good friendly game

  8. Branko says:

Johnny who do your Maltation kids root for today?
    Thanks for stopping by

  9. Soul Champ says:

Any world class coach would have us been champions.

We sort of hover between inexperienced – mediocre and TV repair man.

    @ Johnny

Malta is playing some good football.

    Enjoy the ride.

  10. Suba says:

We already tried that with Niko kovac
Didn’t work out as well as planned

  11. Anonymous says:

If Malta bunkers we should bunker to.

  12. The Great Anonymous Doom says:

The key ingredient this team is missing is Marko Rog. The dude never stops hustling, even if it’s the only thing he does

  13. Markus says:

    GK: Liva
    LB: Melnjak
    CB: DCC
    CB: Lovren
RB: Juranovic (loved his hustle last game)
    CM: Badelj
    CM: Kova
    LW: Orsic
    CAM: Vlasic
    RW: Lovric
    ST: Budimir

  14. Anonymous says:

I think today we will finally wake up and make a statement. CROATIA WINS 3 : 0

  15. Eric says:

    That was me

  16. Maminjo says:

If we ever went with a foreign coach, I think maybe an Italian coach would be best, since a lot of Croats seem to play and do well in Serie A…and both Croatians and Italians have that Southern European mentality.
We had Niko Kovac as could, who was born and raised in Germany…and he ran the team like a stoic disciplinarian. He eventually lost the team with his strict antics.
A lot of Germans are a bit like this, and they aren’t really as emotionally charged as Croats are. Italian coaches are just as good as German coaches, but I think they can manage that Croatian mentality better.

  17. Maminjo says:

Even though it’s probably better that both Slovakia and Russia lose points and draw…
I can’t stand seeing Russia in first place heading into the Euros.
I really want us to win by at least three goals, and have Russia lose to Slovakia (which could happen).
Obviously, I want Slovenia to lose points too.
Losing that first game to Slovenia, then narrowly winning the second…and still being first would be great lol.

  18. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

hahaha…funniest quote of the week …’If Malta bunkers we should bunker to”

gave me a good chuckle this morning!

  19. Maminjo says:

I want to see the game played like this today:

  20. Medo says:

With these minnows acquiring better coaching the days of the set in stone 10-0 thrashing’s are gone.
Their obvious strategy is to put up a fortress steal a point or Miraculously get a goal on a lucky counter or corner.
Makes for dull viewing but it does give a team at least hope when Malta or a Lichtenstein need a result in your favor to help ones team qualify for a tournament.

  21. T Bone says:

That’s a Homer comment if I ever heard one. “The days of set in stone 10-0 thrashings are gone.” Denmark thrashed Moldova 8-0 a few days ago and Canada beat Cayman Islands 11-0. Thrashings shall always continue as long as there are hungry footballers… Once your satisfied with mediocrity that’s exactly what you’ll get.

  22. Markus says:

San Marino would beat Cayman Islands though LOL. The days of thrashing all these teams have somewhat gone. Of course there’s the odd victory like 8-0 for Denmark. But England only beat San Marino what? 5-0? In Europe, these 10-0 wins are getting rarer and rarer. Don’t compare it to North America where teams like Suriname and Curaçao do well.

  23. Poglavnik says:

    Japan over Mongolia 13-0
    Croatia over Cyprus 1-0

  24. Medo says:

T Bone in the good ole days everyone beat San Marino and Malta at the very least 6-0 minimum, and on a lot of days double figures.
My POINT is these are NOT guarantees any longer, not that it won’t happen occasionally.
Check our final score today and what we have done to them in earlier years if you need bone headed proof.

  25. Anonymous says:

    Any links for game ?

  26. Pero says:

@medo I get your point and Malta have always played us tough

  27. Stanko says:

    I be happy with 2-0

  28. BEĆAR says:

    Orsic… Pasalic…. Vlasic
    Badelj…. Kovacic
    Melnjak… DCC… Vida… Juranovic

  29. Anonymous says:

Malta have played us tuff I’m worried.

  30. Andrej Lackovic says:

I think we need to be a bit more realistic with how good this version of the national team is versus what everyone seems to compare to the great team of 2018. A simple way to judge this is by how many players have important roles on teams that play in the Champions League knock out stages. There is a lot less Croatians playing knock out stage Champions League now than compared to 2018. So hopefully, we’re just in transition until Rebic, Vlasic, Orsic, Brekalo and hopefully a CF are playing high level football aka Champions League knock out stages. Until then, we aren’t at the level we were in 2018 especially offensively.

    My prediction; 2-0 win
    Juranovic – Vida – DCC – Melnjak
    — Badelj – Kova
    Vlasic – Pasalic – Orsic

  31. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

Cyprus is up 1-0 vs Slovenia right now!

  32. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

it appears as if we may be wrong in our thinking. Slovenia could come back and win but some of these scores are wild! lets not forget Slovakia tied Malta and almost lost to them a few days ago.

  33. Markus says:

Not a single team is walking out of this group with a clean record. Teams will lose points against highly motivated Cyprus and Slovenia, Slovakia looks shaky but could steal points off the top teams, Russia is probably the most consistent team but they will not plow through this group. Cyprus and Malta look like they could frustrate and we are just weaker and inconsistent. Can’t seem to get our rhythm going. Let’s hope Cyprus beats slovenia and maybe Slovakia can steal some points later today.

  34. Pero says:

The minnows are turning into baby sharks 🦈 before our 👀

  35. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

    starting lineup:

Hrvatska: Livaković – Juranović, Ćaleta-Car, Vida, Melnjak – Badelj, Kovačić – Vlašić, Pašalić, Oršić – Budimir

  36. ARMADA87 says:

This is going to be an ‘ugly’ group where everyone takes points off everyone. I bet come the end, we’re have 4 teams in the running for the first 2 spots.
If we win today and Slovakia takes points off Russia, we’ll be in good shape for the qualifiers after the Euro.
Lots of surprises with traditional UEFA minnows; Armenia, Malta, Cyprus, Faroe Islands and Luxembourg with all decent starts – all of those sides have gotten at least a point from 2 games. I’m sure most would have expected all those sides to have 2 loses already by now.

  37. Anonymous says:

Cypress hanging on for dear life hahaha – would be huge.

  38. Branko says:

Yes ARMADA you Medo and Pero are saying the same things tho sum bone heads are not listening
No EZ walks in the park anymore you never know whose hiding in the bushes

serbo turbos 1-1 with Azeris too.

  40. Hrmic says:

Wow! Cyprus just beat Slovenia 1-0. Funny thing is that Cyprus is ahead of us in the standings at the moment.

  41. U Boj says:

I have to laugh. Everyone claiming Kek is brilliant. Someone referring to him as Kralj.
Great for Croatia. We win today we are in a good position.
    Never give up.

  42. Medo says:

I’ll be watching juranovic closely, let’s hope he builds on his nice work from last game.

  43. Hrmic says:

We have to hope for the Slovaks to take some points from the Russians at home today. Then we will be right back near the top of the standings. The problem is Slovakia has just come off of two ties with Cyprus and Malta both of which they could have lost. They have been pretty bad so far.

  44. Tomislav says:

Here’s where you can find every Croatian qualifying game, I even got to watch the Miocic fight for free—645748.html or
There’s usually a great pre game show and all in Croatian.
Sometimes I can watch the game without hiding my IP but most of the time you’ll get an error message if you try and watch it anywhere outside of Croatia.
For those of you who aren’t sure how to hide your IP address simply Google it and there will be tons of tutorials on how to do it.
Once you’ve installed the VPN on your device simply change your location in my case Canada to Croatia and you’ll be good to go.
    Enjoy the game!

  45. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

Ovaj video nije dostupan u vašoj zemlji

  46. Tomislav says:

You have to download a VPN as indicated above, if you don’t hide your IP it realizes that you’re not in Croatia and because of TV rights will not allow you to watch it. Do a Google search on how to hide your IP address and once you’ve downloaded a VPN, installed it and changed your IP to creation IP you’ll have no problems at all.
Once you figure this out you’ll never have to worry about any other stream for any other Croatian qualify match

  47. Croat Canadian says:

Anything but a win today is disgraceful. No loss, minimal win, or draw. We need a fucking W! Russia will top the group with 9 points after beating Slovakia. Cyrus beat Slovenia which is laughable. Yet we couldn’t Slovenia and beat barley beat Cyprus. If we don’t win, forget qualifying for Qatar. The next three games after Euro 2021 will be difficult. Russia, Slovakia and Slovenia are the next opponent’s. Those games will seal the qualifying group.

  48. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

    thanks Tomislav!

  49. Poglavnik says:

Interesting lineup. Lets see how we control the tempo with no Luka. I think I everyone picks it up with Luka watching.

  50. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

this game is much faster tempo…good to see!

  51. Maminjo says:

LOL. Juranovic doing his best Stjepan Tomas impression

  52. Croat Canadian says:

Malta deserved a penalty. We are such trash. Last place in group no doubt.

  53. Croat Canadian says:

Last place in Euro 2021 group*

  54. Croat Canadian says:

Let’s go Malta. I’m done cheering for this team anymore. Dalic out because I know Malta will win this game.

  55. ARMADA87 says:

    Fair weather Hrvat. Nice.

  56. Croat Canadian says:

Going to watch Slovakia game. When I check the score. It won’t surprise me. Have fun watching this team crash and burn.

  57. Poglavnik says:

We need to quit fucking around and play Luka. You think Ronaldo or Messi would be riding the pine? 3rd game in a week. We need to take this more seriously than the lineup suggests.

  58. Dubrovcan says:

Im sorry but our players are better than this! Just not being motivated enough. Dalic out!

  59. Zorko says:

Melnjak – any reason he’s on the field? Horrible

  60. Poglavnik says:

Dalic must have nudes of Suker

  61. Poglavnik says:

On pace for a whopping 3 shots on goal..
Win or lose today Dalic should just walk away after this one.

  62. Maminjo says:

This is a pretty bad lineup though.
Too many fringe callups playing at the same time.

  63. Jure says:

Every side in the former Yugoslavia is better than Croatia at this moment.

  64. Croat Canadian says:

LOL Slovakia scored. Goodbye 1st or 2nd place

  65. Anonymous says:

jesus christ we look like a high school team.

  68. Malte johnny says:

Good luck everyone, my 2 girls go for Croatia usually , but don’t know tonight.
Tell you what but, us maltese and croatians are pretty stubborn hardworking good people

  69. Maminjo says:

This is a very bad lineup, even if this was a friendly.
Dalic is really testing people’s patience.
No creators on the field other than Kovacic, who has not taken charge at all in this game.

  70. Croat Canadian says:

  71. Poglavnik says:

Slovakia scoring is a good thing. Getting good results just not our own.

  72. Croat Canadian says:

I don’t give a flying fuck that he brought us to the final or got Croatia to Euros. We need a change!

  73. Croat Canadian says:

No consistency in the lineup and I feel Dalic is making lineups as he goes along

  74. ARMADA87 says:

Sidepass Kova. That’s his new nickname.

  75. Poglavnik says:

    Matty square balls

  76. Maminjo says:

Damn, we really could’ve used some of our more talented younger players like Toma Basic, Majer, Moro, Sosa, Bradaric, etc.
Way too much random crap on the field.

  77. Croat Canadian says:

1 shot on target against Malta….pack it the fuck up boys. You sicken me.

  78. Poglavnik says:

Looks like we’re playing for the draw.
Good job Dalic! Keep the boys inspired!

  79. Maminjo says:

We need to sub in Modric, Brozovic, Perisic, Brekalo, Krama, Vrsaljko…
I don’t care. Some talent needs to be out there.
Do five subs all at once. Forget this lineup.

  80. ARMADA87 says:

I think this half was the final straw for me. No creativity. No urgency. Very flat. Watching some BS MLS game would be more entertaining.
Even if we win this by a 1-0, 2-0 somehow scoreline, Dalic needs to go. This team needs a shot in the arm or else we’re going to get massacred at the Euro.

  81. Poglavnik says:

Luka better come on at the half..

  82. Poglavnik says:

Where’s Ziva with his short term pain theory?

  83. Lovro says:

Is Croatia trying to seriously qualify for the World Cup? Do we believe there are points that we don’t really need?
How can you even think about playing a lineup like this?
After watching the last 225 minutes, you have to ask how the hell was this side in the final of the World Cup.
Our talent level in this generation is awful. Nobody in their upper 20’s with game.

  84. Razbijač says:

If we don’t win today, Dalić has to go! The slovenia match was no fluke, we’ve been playing terrible since last fall.

  85. Poglavnik says:

    Mamic we love you!!

  86. Peter North says:

One goal in 5 halves against the bottom three teams in the group. Embarrassing.

  87. Razbijač says:

Lovro according to Dalić, he went with this line up to rest players. But we should still be beating Malta with it.

  88. Franjo Tudzman says:

In all honesty, we haven’t had a decent game since the World Cup.

Unfortunately, we are not that good.

  89. Ahzasvetufumu says:

Dalic is not the problem. Fire him at half time, bring in a new coach, and you have the same shit.

No new talent – huge gap until the u-21 kids are ready

  90. Poglavnik says:

Players need to earn their rest. All of our big guns should be playing. We needed to show something in this game. I wouldve been happy with a 1-0 or 2-0 if we showed signs of creativity.

  91. Croat Canadian says:

11 wins in the last 3 years since World Cup. Just let that sink in…

  92. Peter North says:

This entire qualifying group is hot garbage. We’ll still be in it to the final match day.

  93. Lovro says:

@Razbijac – rest the players for who? their club teams? Our next game isn’t until June.

  94. Poglavnik says:

    I agree Tudzman!
A new manager would be invigorating

  95. Maminjo says:

Yea, but you still can’t be this arrogant and just put forward any random group of players against Malta.
It’s a World Cup qualifying match, and you have to take it seriously. Most of these guys have not played with each other, and some have almost no caps at all.

  96. Croat Canadian says:

Can we perhaps get an international coach for once?

  97. Poglavnik says:

11 wins is better than I wouldve thought!
Pretty sure a lot of those were not solid 90 minute performances either. A few of those we escaped thanks to Petkovic or Vlasic or Kramaric with timely goals.

  98. Iggy says:

Oh ffs just woke up and see it’s the same ol story at half time.. fark me

oh nice tho cyprus beat slovenia and slovakia beating russia! that’s really good news at least!

  99. Mali Ante says:

Dalic has to rest players. No way he starts Modric and Brozo after playing 2 full games. They club teams would lose it on them. He really had no choice. Trouble is we are so thin up front with injuries and Krama out.
He’s obviously hoping he doesn’t have to put in our regulars but if the score keeps up they will be subbed in.
    Everyone needs to relax.

  100. Roko says:

    Orsic has been awful.

  101. Maminjo says:

    ….aand Perisic saves Dalic’s job

  102. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

    blago nama kad Perisic ode…

  103. Maminjo says:

I wonder if we try to hang on like the Cyprus game lol

  104. Mali Ante says:

    For now he has.Lol

  105. Maminjo says:

Vlasic started that play that led to the goal, I think
How does Slavonac feel about that? 😉

  106. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

ufff jebote Vlasic…opet puca u picku materinu!!!

  107. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

I’m watching this on a Russian feed and damn these guys pronounce our players names real funny!

  108. Poglavnik says:

Where would we be without Perisic?!
Its always Luka, Suker, Boban, Zuti, etc.
Perisic has arguably done more in the checkers than any of them!

  109. Mali Ante says:

We badly need a second to take the pressure off.
Vlasic has had a few really good chances.
Barisic finally does something with a nice cross for the goal.

  110. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

you’re right Pog…I’d say Mandzo too!

  111. Iggy says:

Sweet all we need is everything to stay as is in all games and even tho we’ve played shit we will be in prime position to win the group somehow

  112. Maminjo says:

Well Perisic and Mandzo had full careers with us.
Guys like Boban, Suker and Zuti started playing for Croatia in ’94 (after they were already 26 years old).

  113. Maminjo says:

Ref calls a penalty for handball.

  114. Maminjo says:

    He’s a Croatia fan, lol.
    Our handballs don’t count.

  115. Maminjo says:

LOL, my heart stopped when I saw it was Modric taking it.
Dalic just making all the wrong calls lol.
    Horseshoe up his ass today.

  116. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

    thank God he scored.

It was a penalty Maminjo…we got lucky the guy somehow got his hand on it when none of our players challenged him for the ball

  117. Mali Ante says:

We totally got away with that Juranovic handball early.
Either way this is what we needed….took a while.

  118. Iggy says:

    PHEW! Should be right now.

  119. Maminjo says:

Yea, I know. But it was difficult to see the handball (even the announcer was confused)…yet Juranovic had a way more blatant handball in the first half that went completely uncalled (with a lot of Maltese players protesting).

  120. Maltese falcon says:

  121. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

  123. Maminjo says:

    LOL @ Maltese Falcon.
    Frenchman is at it again.

  124. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

the only thing your “Falcon” might snatch is that thing that looks like a worm between your legs!

  125. Maminjo says:

Don’t worry. We’ll pay for it at the Euros. England penalty lol.

  126. Maminjo says:

Modric with a shitty (but better than usual for him) penalty lol

  127. Mixed Grill says:

Yeah they deserved a penalty kick for the handball more than we did. We got lucky.

  128. Poglavnik says:

All that’s left now are 2 friendlies (Armenia Belgium) before the Euros. Team form wont be much to go by but hopefully player form will be.

  129. Poglavnik says:

The big teams always get the calls 😉

  130. Maminjo says:

    lol, gotta replace Vida man.
tries to head it down to a covered player, when he only had the keeper in front of him.

  131. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

  132. Maminjo says:

Lovric looks like he likes to play in the same area as Kramaric.
He’s never up top. He came on for Budimir, so I assume he’s playing the striker role.

  133. Maltese falcon says:

My bird droppings will land on all of you checkers with tiny peckers for mocking the falcons superior girth.
    Until we fly again 🦅

  134. Iggy says:

And that last goal moves us into first place in the group on goal diff (assuming Russia dont get a late goal)

  139. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

how did I miss the 3rd goal?

  140. Mile says:

So they played crappy for most of the three games, and yet they are in first place on goal differential. We’ll see after the Euros how they fare in the fall against Russia and Slovakia. Overall in decent shape, but they need to play better obviously. Hopefully the bandwagon guys on this site that said they quit on the team an hour ago will stay away.

  141. Maminjo says:

    Because Brekalo scored it.
…and since you have an irrational hatred for Brekalo, you subconsciously blocked your mind from seeing the goal (and acknowledging his greatness).

  142. Malti johnny says:

    I love it
    Za dom spremni

  146. Eric says:

    I called it earlier..3:0.
No need to panic although theres lots of room for improvement!
Perisic should always come off the bench…it keeps him motivated.

  147. Suba says:

These Italian wannabes turning up on this site
    It’s hilarious

  148. gbvh says:

    First place bay bay !!

  149. Suba says:

Dalic holds onto his job for the meantime

  150. Maminjo says:

I watched the entire game and felt like Kovačić wasn’t even there lol.
I just wanna see him crank one ball.

  151. Iggy says:

Now just need the U21s to smash Engerand tomorrow morning

  152. Suba says:

Kovacic lacks the necessity competitiveness to succeed

  153. Suba says:

I hope so Iggy because it’s our future national team bring unearthed

  154. Maminjo says:

Vida misses next match with the double yellow.

At least this means Duje is guaranteed to play next game.

  155. U Boj says:

So after all the bitching and moaning I’ve heard on here we are in first place. Love it. Gotta laugh and enjoy it.

  156. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

Maminjo…are Malta and Cyprus the new Iceland?

  157. Mam in yo daddy says:

Maminjo is to brekalo what LA Knat is to halilovic.
    Delusional visions of grandeur.

  158. capitals55 NK Susak says:

Well these 3 games did not go as planned but somehow we sit atop of the group. Kovacic, once again useless. Vlasic has lost the hot foot where everything he touched seemed to be going in last qualifying campaign. Not worried, that will settle itself, as long as he keeps showing up in those right spots. Still a long way to go, but we need a healthy Rebic and Petkovic. Budimir did what he could, just not on the same level.

  159. Mr. Black says:

We played like shit… but we won and that’s what matters.
We lead our group so we got everything back in our own hands.
And there’s a bright side: we (and Dalic too) now realize who we should call up for Euro 2021 and who not.
I truly believe Badelj, Budimir and Meljnak wil never be called up again.

I wouldn’t even call up Pasalic and Brekalo. I’ve seen a lot of European Dinamo Zagreb games and Croatia U21-games and I’m actually convinced that Majer already is better than Pasalic. And Ivanusec already is better than Brekalo.

You were right about DCC. Your guy does well.
Hopefully Brekalo proves you right and me wrong in the future too.

  160. Soul Champ says:

Dalić earned his pay this past week.

Lmfao .. Slovenia thought that BS 1-0 result was the World Cup?!

    Cyprus is tough.

Malta has a good goal keeper and some interesting players.

September should be a whole new reality for us.

Happy for Perišić as it came in and brought his A game.

    No scrubs allowed for Euro’s.

  161. ZDS Lifestyle says:

No scrubs for Euros…….so we gonna play with 3 players on the field ?

  162. Aussie Croat says:

    @John Xiberras

Pastizzi are awesome. And the Maltese are great people. A friendlier bunch of people you will never meet.

Well done and the future looks brighter for Malta.

  163. Dannyj says:

Sadly I couldn’t see the game
    Thank God we won

Sounds like all the other results went out way?
    So we dodged a Bullet

I agree try these youngsters from Dinamo

I thought with olmo leaving they would suffer
    If anything they are stronger

We have the home grown young talent to push the complacent vets

    Did Oršić get in?

  164. Dannyj says:

Never mind I saw Oršić started
    How did he look?

  165. Soul Champ says:

Oršić looked nervous and his game didn’t come off.

Vlašić my missed 3-4 good chances by my count.

Maybe he is rusty from Siberian break?

Juranovic makes not worry about if Vrsaljko is healthy or in form.

Rebić has proven to be irreplaceable.

He would have bum rushed all three of these opponents or at least opened up some more space.

  166. Slavonac from Canada Slavonac from Canada says:

  167. Dannyj says:

    So we missed that press
Prove me wrong mandzo can do more with 45 mins of pressing then Krama with 90 mins of ball hogging?

My worry is this the vida lovren thing will continue and DCC won’t be able to play
Not only that it’s so close to next World Cup and already a bunch into qualifying that they both stay on

This short break between tourneys will not offer the normal change of guard

    It’s the Croatian way.
    Just chill.
Dalić knows exactly what he’s doing!
It may not be pretty but it we get the job done.
Hold the course, all will work out.
    Bring on the English!!!
    💪💪No Fear💪💪
    Bog i Hrvati

  170. BEĆAR says:

DCC must start every game from now on.
Vida must start every game from now on on the bench.
Melnjak must never be called up again.
Badelj must never be called up again.
Regardless of the fortunate results, Dalic needs to go. If Malta is correctly given a penalty in the first half, this game plays out exactly like the Slovenia game.

  171. Mixed Grill says:

Vlasic missed his calling as a rugby player. Hard to like his game style.

  172. Maminjo says:

    Mr. Black
Hey! I was the one who said Majer is already better than Pašalić!
No, but seriously he is. He’s long overdue for a callup, and we need to call up any other U21 players in place of the Melnjak and Badelj types.
Too much talent being left off the team.

Dalić Is plus one in my book after this first place start.

He made countless adjustments to squeeze out these 6 pts.

    @ Svima

Does Dalic have any say on who he calls up?

  175. Frenchman says:

Lucky for the missed penalty call, would’ve been interesting to see how the game would’ve went if the ref didn’t pretend he didn’t see it. It’s like I always say middle of the road teams always get the calls over lesser teams.
    @Slavonac from Canada
You still going with the “we go as Perisic goes” as if it’s your original thought/observation? Hilarious!
I don’t know what’s funnier, that, or your hilarious attempts at breaking games down. And how about when you tell everyone what the team has to do to win, lol “we gotta do this.. we gotta do that,” lol keep it up it’s fucking hilarious.

When I used to go to school in Australia it was funny how many of the Maltese fellas were good at football but the Maltese team isn’t that good.
Maybe the Maltese should send some scouts to Australia I’d be surprised if they don’t find some better talent than they have in their national team. Do what Croatia does find players that were born in other countries by the Croatian diaspora and give them the option to represent the homeland their parents left behind.

Why do no African nations win world cups? Because they don’t play the French way.

It’s a day later and still iffy on where the repka stands. On one hand, it’s great that we’re in first and I’m sure that’s what we all hoped for. On the other hand, we kind of got to where we are by the skin of our teeth. If Malta gets that first goal yesterday, we either tie or lose. If we didn’t get a lucky goal by Pasalic last game, that I’m sure would be a tie. If Slovakia didn’t take points off Russia yesterday, we’d also be in 2nd. Lots of what if’s, yes I know – and I’m thankful to be where we are, it’s just with this type of group, we shouldn’t be in 1st by the skin of our teeth.
This kind of goes back to the narrative around Dalic. Yes, we’re in 1st and that should be all that matters, but we need to look at how we get here and honestly, its been very, very shaky. I get that no fans plays a part, I get that these teams we played bunker against us, to a certain extent. But….
-We shouldn’t have lost to Slovenia. Full stop.
-Given Cyprus’ quality, we should of won against them comfortably and probably subbed off guys like Modric, Perisic and others for the 2nd half. Thinking a 2-0, 3-0 scoreline. Not a nailbiter until the end.
-Given Malta’s quality, we should have taken control of the Malta game in the first 15-20 minutes, had a goal or two and let Modric, Perisic, Brekalo and others have a full game off. The majority of our B squad couldn’t produce a goal vs. a team like Malta. What’s going to happen at the Euro, if we have injuries and have to play some of these guys? Will they step up? Do they belong on the repka even?!
I think these games produced a lot more questions rather than answers… should be an interesting lead up to the Euro.

After all the conspiracy theories about FIFA doing everything possible to help the French beat us at the last WC, I’m going to start a conspiracy theory that FIFA are now doing everything possible to help us to win this WC qualifying group.

How else to explain the penalty Malta should have had but didn’t get, the penalty we had but shouldn’t have got, Melnjak and Vida still getting picked for the first team, Cyprus beating Slovenia, Malta drawing with Slovakia and then Slovakia beating Russia. None of these things make any rational sense otherwise unless there’s some kind of conspiracy to help us Croatians.

I love France’s diversity. At any given time of the day and in every major city, someone is plotting to massacre Catholics or to burn down a church, shoot down people. They have “no-go” areas just like London….cops won’t even go there. There are tents filled with their thankful visitors, shit all over their parks and streets, crime is through the roof in France…(Croatia is safer in every single category…I wonder why?)

If I was a Frenchman, I’d be confused about my identity as well. Nobody knows what a French is nowadays? How do we describe a true Frenchman other than to state the obvious….majority color – black and olive, majority religion – Muslim and Rap music, known for – looting, burning, murders during country celebrations…

  189. Branko says:

Slavonac don’t get too cocky I live in France lite as do you it’s called Canada.

It’s only going to get worse for us Canucks and our kids and we both know it.
