2012 Small Goals Tournament (San Pedro, CA)
May 25, 2012
The tournament is back! And this year some of your favorite Prva Generacija members will be taking part. CroatianSports.com’s own Denis Svirčić and Ante Kvartuč have decided to join forces this year to try and take the ‘B’ League crown away from former MLS star Ante Ražov and NK Škabrnja. Joining the quasi-journalists will be Rob Uvanović from New York and Dennis ‘HvarSplićan’ Fistonich. Ante ‘BBB’ Baričević will not take part in the tourney as he continues to train for his 100 meter race with the speedy Ante Kvartuč. Matt ‘TheGoldenChild’ Lebo has chosen to test his skills in the ‘A’ division, playing for Orange County’s Konavle.
But all eyes will be on Northern California native Danijel Dukić as he tries to lead NK Croatia San Jose to a second straight ‘A’ league title on Saturday. In last year’s tournament, Dukić was red carded in group stage but returned in full force for the final against four-time tournament winners Adriatic SC. Dukić opened up the scoring with his patented left-footed rocket from 15 yards out. However, Adriatic would not be denied as tournament organizer and captain of Adriatic Peter Hazdovac equalized off a free kick to send the championship game into a golden goal overtime. San Jose’s Ante Jozinović would bury a goal two minutes into extra time to win San Jose it’s first ever Small Goals Title in San Pedro.
Pandemonium ensued….
Team CS picks up the bronze
Ante Kvartuč couldn’t handle defeat
Rob Uvanović couldn’t watch from the sideline anymore
Nick Gović took down the Goldenchild and Orange County Croatia in the final
I was a good goalie, not gonna lie
